Welcome to Ludlow on our third annual Farmers’ Day fixture.
We would like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors Bright Maize, Ace ATV, NFU, Rix Oakleys, and the family of the late Richard Strachan. We greatly appreciate your support, and we all hope that you have an enjoyable day and join us for another meeting again soon.
It is our annual Farmers Day at Ludlow, and we have over 250 people in the Windsor Marquee having lunch and listening to an insightful discussion on the ‘future of the family farm’ from a panel of farming experts Rebecca Wilson, Ben Briggs, Matt Ryan and Charlotte Ashley.
Annoyingly we are still blighted with some small fields which I suspect is due to the phrase “Good to Firm” in the going description, which has been a challenge to rid. Despite having rain recently, there is still a water debt from March through to July It is however, improving as the weather becomes colder
Don’t forget to check out the showcase of vintage tractors from Shropshire Hills Vintage Club, along with some lovely trade stands from rural businesses for you to shop from over on the Fairway Green.
The Injured Jockeys Fund will be outside of the office today, selling wonderful gifts with proceeds going towards the incredible work the charity does to support the wellbeing of our jockeys.
Hope you all have an enjoyable days racing!
Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

NOTE:
HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Race Summary: It was pleasing to see BANKATARY come from a less-than-ideal position when getting the better of Crack Ops on debut at Huntingdon and while it should be closer between them given that the latter is now armed with a 7lb pull, James Owen’s charge is taken to emerge on top once again. Indeed, he is open to improvement and looks a decent prospect. Faithful Guardian is the most appealing of the newcomers and is one to monitor closely in the betting.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
