Page 1

WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS.

Due to an abandonment of an earlier meeting this year I am delighted to reschedule the “Mick Walsh Open Ditch” race, now run as the fourth race on the card There is a Special Offer Voucher in today’s race card from Mick, be sure to use it and have a bet on one of his pitches.

We are delighted to welcome regular sponsors Horslyx who provide a free tub of their product to each winning trainer and whose representatives are enjoying an afternoon’s racing with us Carpet Gallop and Equestrian Surfaces, suppliers of carpet surface we use on course kindly sponsor our first and last race today. We are also pleased to have both Anthony Woods Electrical and Pointing Pointers sponsoring today.

We regret to see Maurice Barnes a great supporter of Hexham Racecourse retiring from the training ranks. Maurice who enjoyed a successful career as a trainer, sending out more than 250 winners, is here today and we wish him and his wife Anne a happy retirement.

Our next meeting on Saturday evening 2nd May heralds the start of our late spring early summer season with 6 meetings spanning a period of 7 weeks culminating in our Ladies Day fixture on Sunday 21st of June which also coincides with Father’s Day.

Whilst on course should you require assistance please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or do not hesitate to ask a member of stewarding, catering or racecourse staff who will be pleased to assist.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings
