Haydock Park Racecard - Saturday 4th April

Page 1

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2026

WELCOME TO

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Haydock Park for our Easter Family Day, a fixture that combines an enjoyable afternoon of racing with a fantastic range of entertainment for racegoers of all ages.

Today’s meeting is designed with families in mind, and there is plenty to enjoy alongside the action on the track. Within the Be Friendly Enclosure, you’ll find a host of activities throughout the day, including face painters, inflatables, circus skills workshops, stilt walkers, and a K-pop tribute show, all helping to create a fun and vibrant atmosphere as we celebrate the Easter weekend

On the track, we are proud to host the final of the Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ Chase Series, a £100,000 contest that brings together some of the most experienced and popular horses in training. This unique initiative, run in partnership with Unibet, The Jockey Club and the British Horseracing Authority, provides valuable opportunities and competitive prize money for horses aged 10 and above.

To qualify for today’s final, horses have needed to run and finish in the top eight in one of seven qualifying races staged throughout the season at Carlisle, Cheltenham, Sandown, Market Rasen, and Warwick The series has once again produced compelling racing across the winter, and today’s final, broadcast live on ITV, promises a fitting and competitive conclusion.

Our sincere thanks go to Unibet, the family of Peter Sunderland, JCB, and Pertemps Network for their generous support of today’s card

As always, our team has worked hard to ensure a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors, with a wide range of food and drink options, hospitality, and friendly raceday staff on hand throughout the course

We look forward to welcoming racegoers back on 15 April for an exciting additional fixture, now featuring the Mares’ Listed Novices’ Hurdle, traditionally run on the second day of the Cheltenham April Meeting, completing a competitive eight-race card with prize money maintained from the day.

Thank you for joining us at Haydock Park I hope you enjoy a fantastic day of racing and would like to wish you and your family a very happy Easter

Best of luck

THOROUGHBREDS

DESERVE

THOROUGH

From the moment a Thoroughbred is born they’re supported by a team of dedicated experts.

The Peter Sunderland Cheltenham Certainty Hurdle is run in loving memory of Peter Sunderland — a devoted son, brother, and much-loved lecturer at the University of Bath, who sadly passed away in August 2025.

Peter had a lifelong passion for National Hunt racing and rarely missed an opportunity to study the form. His trademark phrase, delivered with quiet confidence before many a successful bet, was “this is a Cheltenham Certainty.”

Today’s race is named in honour ofthat familiar declaration and celebrates a man who combined sharp intellect, warmth, humour, and an enduring love ofthe sport. It is a fitting tribute to someone who brought joy to those around him and whose presence is deeply missed but fondly remembered.

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

UNIBET MIDDLE DISTANCE VETERANS’ CHASE SERIES FINAL

The 2025/26 renewal of the Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ Chase Series reaches its climax today, following a competitive series of seven qualifiers staged throughout the season. Designed to showcase the durability and class of the sport’s seasoned chasers, the series has once again provided a compelling narrative from autumn through to spring.

Today’s £100,000 Final brings together the most consistent and battle-hardened performers from those qualifying contests. Each runner has earned their place through strong performances over middle distances, often in testing conditions, highlighting both stamina and jumping prowess.

Veterans’ chases continue to be a popular feature of the National Hunt calendar, offering fans the chance to follow familiar and much-loved horses as they compete at a high level later in their careers. This Final represents not only a valuable prize but also a fitting stage for these experienced campaigners to shine.

PLAY SMARTER

The value angle could be TRIPLE TRADE, who was successful on his sole previous foray into veterans company at Sandown in January and his subsequent share ofthird in a major Cheltenham handicap was a solid effort. It’s probably best to overlook his latest run and, taking that out of the equation, his claims are strongerthan his anticipated position in the betting would suggest. There are dangers aplenty, headed by Guard Your Dreams, while Filanderer and Genois are also high on the shortlist.
