I hope you and all our racegoers have a memorable day with us. Today we remember our long-serving Racecourse and Hotel Chairman, Sir Ian Good, who sadly passed away in October 2023. Sir Ian had been on the Board at Hamilton Park for more than 30 years and he made an immeasurable contribution not only to Hamilton Park but also to Scottish Racing and the racing industry as a whole. The whole team at Hamilton Park are pleased to welcome his daughter Catriona, along with family and friends as we remember Sir Ian and his legacy this afternoon. The Class 3 Sir Ian Good Memorial Handicap is our feature race of the day over 5f and has a competitive field, with all of today’s runners having won over this distance, including Jordan Electrics and Little Mi Mi who both hold wins here at Hamilton Park. At the top of the weights is Arklow Lad for Trainer Michael Appleby, whilst our reigning Champion Trainer Jim Goldie is double handed in the race with Montezuma joining Jordan Electrics in the familiar colours of Brian Jordan Snr, Brian Jordan, Stephen Jordan and Nicky McConnell. The winning connections of this race will have their names etched into Hamilton Park history, with the newly commissioned trophy, a miniature version of the A Dynamic Force sculpture which is situated between the grandstand and the hotel, serving as a lasting tribute to Sir Ian. I would like to thank our Owner’s and Trainer’s for choosing to run their horses here this afternoon and for their continued support of our race programme, and I wish all of today’s connections, runners, and riders the very best of luck. Do not be put off by the weird terms you may hear on the racetrack. Like any traveller in a strange country, the novice racegoer will soon pick up a smattering of the language, and then rapidly become fluent. The following might help those racegoers keen to enhance their language skills. ACCUMULATOR bet involving two or more selections in different races: winnings from one are placed on the next ALLOWANCE is the weight concession the horse is given to compensate for its rider’s inexperience ALL WEATHER RACING flat racing which takes place on an artificial surface AMATEUR (rider) on racecards, their names are prefixed by Mr, Mrs, Captain, etc., to indicate their amateur status APPRENTICE young jockey tied by annually renewed contract to a licensed trainer while he or she is learning the business of race-riding BACKWARD used of a horse which needs time to mature CLAIMER of a race: a claiming race; of a jockey: an apprentice COLT male, ungelded horse up to four years old COURSE SPECIALIST horse which tends to run well at a particular track DAM mother of a horse DISTANCE the length of a race: 5 furlongs is the minimum and the 4 1⁄2 miles of the Grand National the longest. Sir Ian Good Memorial Sculpture

Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole. Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club. In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey. Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy. The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself. 10

This is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their oﬃcial handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Sir Ian Good September 25, 1943 — October 29, 2023 Today we remember our long-serving Racecourse and Hotel Chairman, Sir Ian Good. Sir Ian had been on the Board at Hamilton Park for more than 30 years and he made an immeasurable contribution not only to Hamilton Park but also to Scottish Racing and the racing industry as a whole. As a lasting tribute to Sir Ian, a memorial sculpture, A Dynamic Force, has been created by artist Michael Turner and now stands at Hamilton Park, serving as a permanent reminder of the impact he had on the racecourse and everyone who knew him. The winning connections of today’s Sir Ian Good Memorial race will also have their names etched into Hamilton Park history, with the newly commissioned trophy, a miniature version of the A Dynamic Force sculpture, serving as a lasting tribute to Sir Ian.

The whole team at Hamilton Park are pleased to welcome his daughter Catriona, along with family and friends as we remember Sir Ian and his legacy this afternoon.
