TODAY’S RACING
TODAY’S SPONSORS

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse
This evening, we dedicate our program to those who have given their lives in service to our country. We also express our gratitude to all current members and veterans of our Armed Forces.
We have several poignant celebrations and reflections planned, so please join us in honouring the heroes of this country and enjoy the fantastic racing.
Tonight, we have eight races that mark the conclusion of our Betfair Thursday Series, with Hector Crouch and Luke Morris currently in first and third place on the jockey leaderboard, separated by just two points. Keep a close eye on their rides this evening as they compete for the title of top jockey.
We would like to thank Juddmonte for sponsoring our feature race, which has attracted a full field of sixteen high-quality entrants competing for a £30,000 prize. These valuable novice races are restricted to horses that cost less than £30,000 as yearlings, providing an attractive opportunity for those horses purchased at sales for what is, in racehorse terms, a relatively inexpensive price.
Let us never forget those who gave their lives so that we may be free.
Neil Graham Racing Director

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

WELCOME TO OUR REMEMBRANCE RACEDAY
A warm welcome to our Remembrance Raceday, where we honour the ultimate sacrifice of those who secured our freedom and recognise the dedication of those who serve today. Now in its third year, our annual remembrance fixture unites racegoers, families, veterans, and current members of the armed forces in reflection. To every member of our Armed Forces, past and present, and their families, we offer our heartfelt thanks for your courage and dedication.
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring at 3:45 PM, featuring our distinguished guests the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, the Mayor of Chelmsford, and serving members and veterans of the armed forces. There will also be live performances by the Wimbish Military Wives Choir in the Grandstand, and the band Julie Jive and the Bigshots in our private military area.
We are delighted to host students who participated in the Remembrance Poem Competition, which received over 100 wonderful entries from local schools. We would like to thank every pupil who took part; your creativity and thoughtfulness have truly captured the spirit of Remembrance. All entries can be viewed in the Grandstand, and during our ceremony, the winning and runner-up poems will read aloud by their young authors, Gracie and Harry.
Finally, a big thank you to our sponsors: Lookers Ford, Lookers Land Rover, and Allied Projects for their support on this poignant raceday. On behalf of everyone here at Chelmsford City Racecourse, thank you for joining us to remember, honour, and celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of the Armed Forces.
Lest we forget.

Supporting the Armed Forces and Blesma at a Time of Remembrance
Blesma is a Chelmsford-based Armed Forces charity that supports limbless veterans, helping them lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Founded after the First World War, Blesma has spent a century supporting serving and ex-Service personnel with life-changing limb or sight loss, as well as hundreds of widows and families across the UK each year.
Britain’s War Amputees
Around 40,000 and 12,000 British men and women lost limbs in the First and Second World Wars respectively, as young, fit soldiers faced the horrors of trench warfare. Many endured painful amputations; John Booth, a WWII P.O.W recalled losing both legs without anaesthetic or proper medical care. He survived and joined the association in 1946, which has been part of his life ever since. At that time, the prosthetics industry was limited, with artificial limbs mostly made of wood and secured with leather straps.

The Blesma Legacy
Blesma was founded in the 1920s by limbless ex-servicemen, originally called LESMA, to support each other through unemployment and hardship. The first branch opened in Glasgow around 1921, and Wilfred Whitfield, who lost his arm at the Battle of the Somme, founded the Teesside branch.
In 1932, LESMA branches united and gained charitable status, becoming the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association (BLESMA).
Blesma has a long history of achievements and advocacy for wounded veterans, from opening their first care home in 1948, to campaigning successfully for improved war widows’ pensions in 1973, and later for fairer war pensions under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.
Sport and activity have long played a key role in members’ rehabilitation and well-being, with limbless members taking on challenges such as Channel swimming, mountain climbing to the North Pole, global yacht races, winning Paralympic gold, and participating in the Olympic Torch Relay in Japan.
Susi, an ex-Royal Navy veteran, has visited the racecourse on several occasions to fundraise for Blesma. We caught up with her to learn about her challenging journey from injury to becoming a Blesma beneficiary.
In 1997, during a training exercise, Susi suffered life-changing spinal injuries after falling from a height and being crushed under a telegraph pole. Her recovery was hindered by delayed medical care from the Navy; she was not taken to a hospital or spinal unit and was told to continue working in a wheelchair for three years before being medically discharged in 2003 She faced racial abuse and ridicule, and later tests revealed the full extent of her injuries. Unfortunately, she was unable to make a claim due to missing the deadline.
During this dark time housebound and depressed, Susi was put in touch with Blesma and assigned a welfare officer, Kev, who she describes as her lifeline, helping her access counselling and improve her mental health.
Susi is nothing short of remarkable, from representing GB in showjumping to being the only female goalkeeper in the Ice Hockey Paralympics and completing three half marathons and a full marathon. She continues to be an inspiration and has shown true courage. Blesma has supported her with mobility equipment, car adaptations, and a specialised power chair for horse riding.
However, despite all this, her challenges have continued. During COVID, her beloved horse provided by Blesma was killed in an accident, and in February this year, Susi suffered a brain bleed, leaving her unable to drive and reliant on a handbike. Yet she continues to challenge herself, including preparing an entry for the 2027 Chelsea Flower Show with designer Mark Howard.
Susi concludes:
“If it wasn’t for Blesma, I honestly wouldn’t be here They are phenomenal and work so hard to help people in my situation, I can’t thank them enough.”

The last-time-out winners CAPTAIN CAIRNEY (third) and Time For Action (runner-up) are the pair to focus on, with the former shading preference given he had an excuse (stumbled and slowly away) during a previous encounter between the pair at Bath last month. He has a 2lb pull with his old rival and can reverse the form. Lexington Express may improve now he steps up in trip and is suggested as the pick of the rest.

BEACH PARTEE has won two of his four starts since being gelded and has a decent chance of expanding on his recent haul with Luke Morris retaining the ride. Having won over this trip at Bath in September, reverting to 6f shouldn’t be an issue for this last-time course winner over 5f. Corniche Girl handles Polytrack and also holds solid claims over this distance. The handicap debutant Ladiapur completes the shortlist.

Stewards Note: AL’S RIVER: Following its run on 23/10/2025 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed.
Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Timber Twelve (GB), 4-1 Starlight Time (GB), 9-1 Devil’s Brigade (IRE), 12-1 Itica (GB), 14-1 Zarco (GB), Knight of Glory (USA), 16-1 Spirit of Athene (GB), 20-1 Room Fourteen (GB), 22-1 Cotai Lights (IRE), 25-1 Astracornus (GB), Timely Salute (GB), 28-1 Al’s River (IRE), 33-1 Angel Breeze (IRE), 40-1 Turku (IRE), 80-1 Family Values (GB)
TIMBER TWELVE did well to overcome a tricky draw at Kempton on his debut in September and could be up to defying a penalty with improvement on the cards. Fellow previous winner Starlight Time wasn’t disgraced in a valuable sales race at Newmarket last month and remains open to improvement. Zarco needs plenty more but the step up to 1m could trigger a fair amount of improvement and he’s fancied to fill the places.
Great British Bonus Scheme
The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.

ABSOLUTE STAR has won two of her three starts so far this year and Roger Varian’s filly looks to have even more to offer She beat the now-absent Kitaro Kich in decisive fashion at Kempton last month and the latter subsequently franked that form when scoring over 7f at the same track. Threatening returns to this shorter trip with a shout off his current mark and is preferred to Shimmering Spin of the rest.

ABSOLUTE STAR got back on the up with a straightforward success at Kempton (form working out well) and she may be able to follow up in a higher grade. Atmosphere improved to land a third career success last time and could prove the main danger if the visor has the same effect, while Stenmark is another to note given his low-mileage profile.

CITY SELECTIONS
FREDDIE’S STAR boasts the strongest form on offer and will likely prove a popular choice. The son of Starspangledbanner improves with every start and, having gone agonisingly close when caught on the line by the odds-on favourite over C&D last month, Roger Teal’s charge is taken to open his account. There is little between Rory’s Royale and Al Hofzan on running at Kempton last time with the former taken to confirm superiority.

LIPSINK continued his good progress when scoring at Wolverhampton to land the treble. Mick Appleby’s charge appeared to win with plenty left in the locker on that occasion and a 4lb penalty may not be enough to halt his winning streak. Level Up needs to bounce back after disappointing when only fifth at Wolverhampton last month. He can still go well reunited with Neil Callan, but a chance is taken on SPEED OF MAAJID, whose speed was blunted by the softer ground when second at Nottingham and Robert Cowell’s gelding could surprise back on the all-weather. Mick’s Spirit and General Assembly are others to consider.

On the back of a decisive C&D success a fortnight ago, GENERAL ASSEMBLY looks capable of going in again off this 7lb higher mark. CITY SELECTIONS
RENESMEE drops a class ahead of her return to the all-weather and with a win to her name at Lingfield off this mark in August, she is hard to ignore with Kyle McHugh’s 7lb claim a bonus. Glorious Kitty deserves a first victory and she can also get involved if staying the extra distance, with Bintazzo one to watch in the markets after being sent off favourite before weakening late on over further at Newcastle in October
