We have a seven-race card for you this evening and the flavours of India in the Fairwood Brasserie, seeing the return of our popular Curry night. The second race this evening features another leg of our “Chelmsford Mile Series”, during which there are ten qualifying races before the £50,000 final on Good Friday. Every horse that finishes in the first six in any of the qualifying races will be eligible to run in the final and be in with a chance of winning some of that substantial prize money! Dress Code Smart dress is encouraged for both restaurants. Gentlemen are required to wear a collared shirt, jacket and tie in the Club Restaurant & Lounge. If the appropriate clothing is not worn you will be asked to leave the enclosure. In the Fairwood restaurant, smart casual attire is acceptable, no trainers are permitted. Casual wear is permitted within the Sports Bar but we ask you to refrain from wearing club replica shirts at Chelmsford City Racecourse. Shirts must be worn at all times. Tailored shorts are acceptable for general admission only, but no shorts are to be worn within the hospitality areas. No sports shorts or ﬂip ﬂops are permitted, along with no team shirts.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Our Commitment to Horse Welfare At Chelmsford City Racecourse, the welfare of our horses is our highest priority, and this commitment is most visible in the continuous improvements made to our All-Weather racing surface. The surface has been expertly rewaxed and enhanced with added fibre to reduce kickback and improve safety. Additionally, the pedestrian crossing over the track was replaced early on with an underpass from the ticket office to the concourse, ensuring a safer experience for both horses and racegoers. Every raceday, three qualified equine vets are on duty, closely monitoring the action and ready to respond within moments should an incident occur. We always maintain two equine ambulances and three for jockeys on-site, supported by permanent veterinary boxes and, during major fixtures, on-site X-ray facilities for swift diagnosis and care. Hydration and recovery are also carefully managed, with ample water and multiple washdown stations available to help horses cool down immediately after racing. Chelmsford City Racecourse works with the British Horseracing Authority, Great British Racing, RSPCA, World Horse Welfare, and the Horse Welfare Board to champion world-class equine care. British Racing has invested over £56 million since 2000 in veterinary research and education, improving safety for all horses—not just racehorses. We remain committed to the highest standards of welfare, both on and off the track. At Chelmsford City, the horses come first—always.

VARIETY ACT didn’t go unsupported and offered something to work on amidst clear signs of inexperience when staying on for a share of second over 7f here in November. Looking sure to improve, not least now his stamina is tested further, he makes plenty of appeal in a race lacking PLAY SMARTER depth. Gennadius and Tonyfromhr are others to note, whilst the market can guide in assessing newcomer Hengist Pod.
