Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse
This evening marks the beginning of this year’s music events after racing and what a way to begin! Artful Dodger will be on stage in the Summer Marquee straight after racing finishes, playing some of the best of UK Garage music.
Before that, we have seven races for you with some interesting runners to test your skill. Charlie Appleby runs Montevetro in the first, who cost 800,000 guineas as a yearling, so the market should give you some idea whether he is fancied or not and likely to live up to that expensive price tag.
The 8.00pm race features an old favourite here in Sir Rodneyredblood, attempting to win his tenth race tonight. He is well drawn, coming out of the number 4 stall, back in a Class 6 race, which is where he has won 14 of his races and he seems to be equally effective over 5f and 6f.
Good luck to all our runners and have a great evening.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

MONTEVETRO looks to have been found a nice opening on debut for the powerful Charlie Appleby yard and should go very close given his connections are known for their ability to ready one and have first-time-out winners. The other newcomer in the field Bay of Myths is noted with Hollie Doyle booked, while of those with form it could be that Free Yourself takes a nice jump forward from her decent introduction at Wolverhampton.

CITY SELECTIONS
DESDEMONA hit the crossbar twice, including behind the bang in-form Beauzon, before going one better in emphatic fashion at Lingfield. A 5lb rise still leaves her well treated compared to the peak of her powers and she can strike again while the iron is hot. Buraback took a step back in the right direction when runner-up over C&D and that form was boosted when the winner followed up. Top Star was a solid second at Southwell, although that form doesn’t appear quite as strong.

CITY SELECTIONS
Royal Jet’s winning spree was brought to an end at Lingfield last week and although that second arguably matched the level of his previous performances, a further 2lb rise does demand more. ANTIQUITY has gone up 4lb after justifying favouritism at the same venue, but he appeared to have something in hand and is the one taken to defy the handicapper. H Key Lails has held his form well, while Renesmee burst back into life when just denied at Wolverhampton.
