Chelmsford City Racecard - Friday 10th February

Page 1

Evening Racing

Friday 10th February 2023 Official Programme £3.00

Good Evening

One of the most notable points of interest, for me, looking through the card each week is how many horses, once they have run well here, either win or go very close to winning in their subsequent runs. There are nine horses running tonight that have won here previously: Bond Boy won here eight days ago, Engrave was second two months ago, James Bradley won here a month ago and Channel Packet was third a month ago.

However, one of the most interesting horses running tonight is the admirably consistent Jenson Benson. He is a firm favourite amongst us all at Chelmsford, having won all three of his races here, as well as being placed second and third twice. Unfortunately, the price he pays for his consistency is that he looks to be in the grip of the handicapper, as he is five pounds higher than any of his previous winning marks. Nevertheless, we shall be cheering him home tonight and wherever he finishes, I am sure that we shall see him back in the winners’ enclosure before too long.

I hope you have a lovely evening.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

TFRHHIII BHA-

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

DREAM FOR GOLD is fancied to come out on top returning from a break and, after splitting two subsequent winners when last seen at York, he could prove hard to beat. A few of these have only had the one outing and Gypsy Nation looks the most interesting having reared at the start on debut, showing his greenness, before staying on nicely under hands and heels. Erosion Risk is another to consider

THE BETSI HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6)

CITY SELECTIONS

Phoenix Glow is an interesting contender on her return from a break, as she showed up well at Kempton in a nursery on her penultimate start over this trip and goes off the same mark. However, preference is for GOOSE ROCK, who is having his second start after a wind operation and stayed on strongly at Newcastle last time out, so is taken to take a step forward. South Dakota Sioux can also go well.

GOOSE ROCK

Leading course trainer (17-22): D O’Meara (24 wins from 203 runners, 12%) runs SOUTH DAKOTA SIOUX

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): G Scott (1 win from 7 runners, 14%) runs GOOSE ROCK

BOND BOY has found another level since having the visor reapplied and a 5lb rise for his latest victory here over 7f shouldn’t prevent another bold bid on this return to 1m. Super Den gained a second success of the season at Lingfield last month and is feared most off only 3lb higher Poetic Force returned to winning ways in a selling handicap at Wolverhampton, but Meng Tian is now 5lb below his last winning mark and rates best of the rest.
