Here, at Chelmsford City Racecourse, we try to offer you more than a day’s racing: we try to offer you an experience. Obviously, you can come and wander over to the paddock to see these majestic thoroughbreds, both before and after the race; this gives you the chance to look at each horse, to assess its condition, to see if it looks ready to go out there and run for its life. In my opinion, you are missing out on a major part of the experience of coming racing if you don’t, as amongst the horses you are able to soak up the atmosphere and appreciate the love that the handlers have for these horses. In addition to this, we want to offer you the option to choose how and where you spend the rest of your time. If you come to the Sportsman’s Bar, you can enjoy the racing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the Fairwood Brasserie offers an informal dining experience right opposite the ﬁnishing line and upstairs there is a ﬁne dining experience with panoramic views of the course. We are in the process of expanding our hospitality with the Paddock marquee, the Summer marquee and the Queen Charlotte marquee all ready for our exciting events calendar coming up over the next few months. OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Our staff, aided by the uniformed security will implement the carefully planned evacuation procedures and undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety. It is essential and a requirement that you follow their instructions. If you are able please take your belongings with you and proceed as directed out of the area as quickly and quietly as possible. These are just precautionary notes and we trust the procedures will not be required. Chelmsford City Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission or eject any race-goer whose conduct is unacceptable or compromises the safety of race-goers, participants and horses.
