Welcome We have an eight-race card this evening and some of you may be wondering why we have eight rather than our usual seven races. The answer is that when the BHA, in consultation with the horsemen, identify a gap in the programme book and a need for a certain type of race, they seek to fill this gap. The BHA then offer these races to the racecourses and each racecourse can decide whether it wishes to apply for them or not. We applied for around half a dozen recently and have been allocated two of them: the first race this evening and another one next week. We are always delighted to offer an eight-race card, as we feel that it offers you, our guests, not only one more race to enjoy but it also extends your stay at Chelmsford City Racecourse and, we hope, enhances your overall experience. OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Tailored shorts are acceptable for general admission only, but no shorts are to be worn within the hospitality areas. No sports shorts or ﬂip ﬂops are permitted, along with no team shirts. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In the event of an incident occurring which necessitates the partial or total evacuation of any area of the racecourse, announcements will be broadcast over the public address system. Our staff, aided by the uniformed security will implement the carefully planned evacuation procedures and undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety. It is essential and a requirement that you follow their instructions. If you are able please take your belongings with you and proceed as directed out of the area as quickly and quietly as possible. These are just precautionary notes and we trust the procedures will not be required. Chelmsford City Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission or eject any race-goer whose conduct is unacceptable or compromises the safety of race-goers, participants and horses. Chelmsford City Racecourse may abandon racing when directed by the British Horseracing Authority, the police or emergency services, or in any emergency or other exceptional circumstances beyond our reasonable control. If racing is abandoned, day ticket refunds will be applied as follows: Abandonment before completion of the first race – full refund; Abandonment up to the third race 50%; Abandonment other than as above – no refund.
