However, we have some wonderful memories to look back on. I cannot thank enough all the Owners who have declared runners with us today; their loyalty to Cartmel is sincerely appreciated. ENJOY THE RACES IN SAFETY A day at Cartmel Racecourse should be great fun for everyone; nobody wants an injury or an incident to spoil their day. So, when push comes to shove, we need to make sure that there isn’t any pushing or shoving. The racecourse team prepares carefully for each event and we take every precaution to ensure that the site is as safe as is practical. However, we also need some help from you – to take responsibility for your own safety and to respect the safety and comfort of those around you. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a brief list of precautions that we’d like all visitors to consider: ALCOHOL & SUBSTANCE ABUSE Fortunately very few accidents occur at Cartmel Racecourse, but those that do are most likely to be relatively minor incidents involving someone who has had too much to drink. Quite simply: you’ll be safer if you drink less alcohol. On the rare occasion that we receive a customer complaint, it’s quite likely to be linked to the behaviour of someone who’s had one too many. So please drink responsibly and encourage your friends to stay within their limits. Any incident involving substance abuse will be dealt with by Cumbria Police.

RECYCLING All of our waste is recycled at the waste depot so please feel free to use any bin. TREES The scenery at the racecourse is enhanced by beautiful trees, including some very old oaks. However, despite clichés such as ‘strong as an oak’ it should be noted that all trees are capable of shedding branches with little warning. While we inspect all the trees on the racecourse annually, we recommend that you do not sit beneath the branches. We especially ask that neither children, nor adults, swing or climb on the branches of trees within the parkland. PARKING Why do I need to pre-book parking now? This is a decision taken by the authorities out-with our control and what they are looking for is a record in advance of everyone who is driving a car on-site. Why is there less car parking on site now? Again, this has been mandated by the external authorities in order to maintain a safe distance between vehicles and pedestrians. WATER Children are naturally attracted by the water in the beck that meanders through the Paddock Enclosure. For reasons that should be obvious, we recommend that children are supervised at all times. We also recommend that anyone paddling in the beck wears shoes or boots to protect their feet. Animals use the beck upstream (and downstream), so please do not use the beck for washing up your picnic utensils, for drinking or for cleaning your hands. HORSES Horses are big and run very fast; hopefully yours will run fastest of all. Please pay attention when in close proximity to the horses: stay on the public side of any barriers (close to the track or horse walk

areas) and do not sit on or lean over barriers near to the horses. The running rails are designed to encourage the horses to stay on the track – but they will not withstand a horse’s weight if they hit them, nor a jockey’s if he is thrown over them – so be prepared to move if a horse is behaving erratically. VEHICLE MOVEMENT Be aware of moving vehicles at all times. If you are driving a vehicle, please pay special attention to pedestrians. BARBECUES Every year the first aid team will treat at least one person with burnt fingers and we will be required to extinguish at least one fire in a wheelie bin. If you intend to bring a barbecue, please ensure that you handle it safely, take care not to scorch the grass and dispose of it in a metal bin – only when it is fully extinguished. No gas barbecues or gas canisters are permitted on the racecourse. Please extinguish all BBQs 20 minutes before racing starts. CHILDREN Whilst its brilliant to be up close to the racing action, we would appreciate you not allowing children to sit on the racetrack perimeter fence. Also – if you see any damage to racecourse fences, temporary structures or furniture we would appreciate you reporting this damage as soon as possible to a member of our stewarding team. ABANDONMENT Abandonment refunds: Full refunds for general admission tickets will be given if racing is abandoned before the first race. A 50% refund will be given if racing is abandoned before the third or featured race. No cash refunds will be given on the day, but will be administered by post after the meeting. Please retain your tickets as they will be required for your refund application. Applications for refunds should be sent within one month of the fixture.

JOCKEYS’ & TRAINERS’ CHALLENGES 2026 CARTMEL JOCKEYS’ CHALLENGE Cartmel for the majority of our meetings.

Sean Bowen Congratulations go out to Sean Bowen who has won the Cartmel Jockey Challenge for 2026. An 8 point lead will be enough to see him regain the title, even if it is one of the rare days when without any success. The 2 time National Hunt Champion Jockey is a regular here, and rode his ﬁrst ever winner too. With backing of powerful stables like Olly Murphy, Gordon Elliott and of course brother Mickey, we are delighted that Sean returns to

In current second place is Leah Noreci. This has been a great Summer for Leah, picking up more rides with 4 winners here in 2026. She is fantastic value for her Claim, and showed her judging of pace to perfection on Saturday in our opening Mountain Goat Tours Handicap Hurdle on Alvesta. There was a runaway leader who was still well in front after the last fence, but Leah timed the winning to perfection to get the popular well backed winner up close home. Leah’s 7 pound Claim is sure to be reduced soon. Harry Reed was successful in the big race on Saturday, the Cartmel Cup. This demonstrated the life of a Jockey, as Harry was riding at Fontwell in West Sussex on Friday evening, before making the long journey here. It was a worthwhile trip as he landed the spoils on Morning Mayhem where any one of 4 horses could have been called the winner, before Harry got his mount up on where it mattered.

MARTIN TODHUNTER, SEAMUS MULLINS 8 CARTMEL TRAINERS’ CHALLENGE As we go into the final day, the Challenge is not officially won, but it would be a major shock if Jimmy Moffatt was not to retain his title, and win for a record breaking 8th time. Jimmy holds a 15 point lead over his nearest pursuer Mickey Bowen, and while Mickey has plenty of entries it would be a brave person betting against the title going to Pit Farm Stables. The most poignant win on the day was in our final race when the David Thompson trained Ilogical Logic won the Cenzig Sadik Memorial Trophy. This is the 20th year that Aytach Sadik has supported the back in honour of his son, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the winners enclosure when his own horse came home in front, under well judged Ellis Collier ride. What was noticeable was how many other Trainers and Jockeys came to congratulate winning connections after the race highlighting how much it meant. David Thompson does very well with a small string and is was a lovely way to end the day.

Race Description This is a two miles and six furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 115. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their ofﬁcial handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival.
