A very Happy Bank Holiday welcome to you all and thank you for joining us today, our final race day of the season It is always with a hint of sadness that I write my final welcome of the season It has been such a pleasure having you with us; I very much hope to see you again next Spring
We have welcomed so many visitors this year and enjoyed some brilliant racing; our warmest thanks to you for supporting us in 2025 As a small independent racecourse, your continued loyalty is crucial to our future, and I know that the whole team join me in welcoming you today and voicing our thanks
Our Sponsors are very important to us, and today we welcome:

As I write this, it seems impossible for any Trainer to catch James Moffatt for our Trainer’s title, BUT it might just happen, and it will make for an incredible contest! May I take this opportunity to thank all the Owners who have supported our race programme this season, along with their Trainers in declaring horses to run here
To those of you who take a Membership (of any sort) with us ‘Thank You’
Our Charity today is St Mary’s Hospice, an organisation very close to us – they are set up on the Paddock side today and I would encourage you, if you have time, to visit them and see what they provide
All that is left for me to say in 2025 at Cartmel Racecourse is ‘Good luck!’ and we hope to see you next season!

CARTMEL JOCKEYS’ CHALLENGE
Charlotte Jones extended her lead at the top of the Jockeys Challenge picking up 5 points to enter the final days racing of our 2025 season in pole position to regain her Jockey Challenge title. Charlotte won on Bittalemon for the second time season in the Rathbones Novices Hurdle to maintain her lead, and a further placing saw the gap increase She has a healthy advantage, but there are still plenty of points up for grabs, with nearest challenger Brain Hughes having a number of strong looking rides. Scores will be updated after each race on the board next to the weighing room
Joshua Thompson rode his first Cartmel winner on Ambassador in division one of the Cartmel Conditional Jockeys Handicap Joshua made all on the winner, with a perfectly judged ride seeing off all challengers and going further clear in the straight
Another Conditional Jockey having his first winner here was Charlie Maggs in the second division of the Handicap Charlie rode a strong finish to land the spoils on The Navigator. A number of horses were in with a chance round the final turn, but Charlie’s strength got the likeable grey home
Charlie Price was another young Jockey getting his first Cartmel winner on Saturday This was enterprising ride on No But I Will in the Jonathan and Louise Silver Anniversary Chase, going into a clear lead from the start, but when the challengers came Charlie had kept enough in reserve to land the spoils.

CARTMEL TRAINERS’ CHALLENGE
Jimmy Moffatt strengthened his grip on the Trainers Challenge with a double on our penultimate day of racing Jimmy’s first success was with Bittalemon who followed up a victory earlier in the year with a comfortable win in the Rathbones Novices Hurdle The filly has raced exclusively at Cartmel in her jumps career with 5 runs here this Summer She is a lovely prospect and sure to go to better things
Jimmy’s second winner was with Judicial Review in the Cengiz Sadik Memorial Chase. After a near miss at the last meeting, he came right away up the straight for a comfortable success, landing this event for the second year in a row. Jimmy supplemented his tally with a number of places, and his tally of 53 points is an unassailable lead
Robbie Llewellyn had his first Cartmel winner when No But I Will won the Jonathan and Louise Silver Anniversary Handicap Robbie made the long journey from Swindon worthwhile when his gelding led from flag fall for a well deserved success.
There are always happy scenes in the winners enclosure when Dianne Sayer has a winner, and they were repeated when The Navigator won the Cartmel Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle He made light of his 10 years for a gutsy success, where 5 horses had a chance of winning in the final straight

HOW TO PLACE A BET
PLACE YOUR BETS....
Betting is quite straightforward and can be fun - for as little as £2 There is no fool proof way of picking a winner; the odds and the racecard can give you a good guide but you can also have as much luck picking your horse by the name or colour of the silks.
BET IN TWO WAYS -
1. Betting with the tote - a quick, easy and friendly service You’ll find tote betting points all around the racecourse and it will give you a better choice of bets with the lower minimum stake of £2. Look at the counters for the tote how to bet guides
HOW TO READ
2. Bookies - these are all in front of the Grandstand and take only two bets TO WIN and EACH-WAY The bookies offer ‘odds’ on all the horses and you are best to shop around for the best odds. These are given in fractions, such as 8/1.

He jumped much better and stormed clear at Uttoxeter last time and looks a good prospect in the juvenile hurdle division even at this very early stage. Race Description This is a two miles, six furlongs and 31 yards handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 115. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170.

Do No Wrong could be an interesting contender back over hurdles

for four yrs old and upwards ¨ Total prize fund £22000
Race Description This is a three miles, one furlong and 83 yards handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Even so, the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tends to make open handicaps very competitive races.

for four yrs old and upwards ¨ Total prize fund £20650
Race Description This is a three miles, one furlong and 107 yards handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 140. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 140 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 135.

Race Description This is a two miles, five furlongs and 34 yards handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 125. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb.

Race Description This two miles, one furlong and 61 yards handicap steeple chase has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 100. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.
Leading course trainer (20-25): L Quinlan (8 wins from 65 runners, 12%) runs RESTANDBETHANKFUL
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): M Bowen (2 wins from 14 runners, 14%) runs LA QUARITE
Weightwatcher: RESTANDBETHANKFUL won off a handicap mark of 105, his rating is now down 6lb to 99
