THE GO NORTH FINALS RACEDAY

Welcome to Carlisle Racecourse for the Go North Finals Raceday supported by The Racing Post.
We are delighted to have you with us for the grand finale of the Go North Finals weekend, following exciting action at Musselburgh on Friday and Kelso on Saturday. Today promises to bring the series to a thrilling conclusion here at Carlisle
This afternoon features seven competitive jump races, with a superb total prize fund of £154,500 on offer Now in its sixth year, the Go North Series Finals were created to provide northern-trained, mid-range horses with a valuable end-of-season target, while also strengthening the northern racing programme through a series of well-supported qualifiers.
Our feature races proudly celebrate some of the North’s most iconic horses. One Man, the brilliant Champion Chaser trained in Cumbria by Gordon Richards, is honoured alongside the outstanding grey Monet’s Garden, trained by his son Nicky. We also pay tribute to the legendary Red Rum, whose name needs no introduction A regular visitor to Carlisle, he famously used the track as a springboard to Aintree, where he secured an extraordinary three Grand National victories. We are proud to have a bar here named in his honour
This year’s Finals are bigger than ever, with each race now worth £40,000, an increase of £10,000 on 2025, further enhancing an already competitive and rewarding series
Our sincere thanks go to today’s sponsors for their valued support:

All the Family. One Carnival Raceday

SATURDAY 4 APRIL

SCAN TO BOOK

In April 2015 the family of Peter Phizacklea O.B.E. surprised him on his 78th Birthday by sponsoring a race in memory of his late wife Pauline, who sadly passed away in 2006.
Peter was awarded the O.B.E. in 2003 for his “Services to Cumbria and The Lake District”.
The Phizacklea family had such a memorable day that they have continued to sponsor a race each year since, (with the exception of the two Covid years) Unfortunately Peter was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016 ultimately resulting in him now residing at Ostley House care home in Barrow-in-Furness.
Today sees the 10th running of the Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Hurdle in memory of a loving wife, mother & grandmother.
Sadly missed - always in our thoughts

CHASINGOUTTHEBLUES and Paddy O’Mahler confirmed themselves as a pair of young staying chasers to keep on side when finishing 1-2 in a tight finish at Catterick last month. The former shades preference to confirm those placings from a 2lb higher mark with the return to this stiffer track likely to see him in an even better light. WOLFBURG continues to shape up very well as a chaser, just failing to peg back Trac after losing momentum at a crucial stage over C&D 5 weeks ago, and Sandy Thomson’s 7-y-o is fancied to gain compensation. Tommy Combats continues on the upgrade and rates the main threat ahead of course specialist and last year’s winner Hello Judge.
