STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Today marks the first fixture of our yearly leading trainer and jockey awards.
Keep an eye on the leaderboard throughout the year to see who’s taking the lead!
THE POINTS ARE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS: 1st 2nd 10 Points 7 Points 3rd 4th 4 Points 2 Points

A left-handed track of approximately one mile three furlongs in circumference. There are nine relatively easy fences per circuit and a run-in of 325 yards. Three tight turns make the course somewhat sharp in nature.

WEIGHTWATCHER
The horses which have dropped most in the weights from previous winning handicap marks in the last two years:
3.00 CLASSIC CONCORDE (won off 118 down 5lb to 113);
4.00 PLANNED PARADISE (won off 107 down 9lb to 98).
CLASSY TIPS
The following horses are running today in a race at least two grades lower than their previous race:
3.00 CLASSIC CONCORDE (down 2 grades);
3.30 MIRABAD (down 4 grades);
4.00 BODHISATTVA (down 2 grades);
5.00 GALOP DE CHASSE (down 2 grades).
NOTE: ALL STATISTICS
Having reached the frame on both outings over hurdles, HALFTHEWORLDAWAY could be poised to open her account The five-year-old finished 15 lengths clear of the third at Uttoxeter last time out and a repeat of that performance may prove sufficient. Point-to-point third Longhouse Gem is a potential fly in the ointment on her Rules bow and market support could prove significant. Geordies Betty is the pick of the remainder
WIN: HALFTHEWORLDAWAY
DANGER: LONGHOUSE GEM
The Hawkstonian dug deep to gain a breakthrough victory at Ffos Las and he’s still open to improvement However, COUNT OF VENDOME created a fine impression when romping home at Doncaster and may possess too much speed for Ben Pauling’s charge. Harry Lowes has proved a little underwhelming since scoring at Exeter in November, but a return to this sort of distance may help.
WIN: COUNT OF VENDOME
DANGER: THE HAWKSTONIAN
Having continued on his upward trajectory when completing a four-timer at Doncaster, MASK OF ZORRO is difficult to oppose. Rian Corcoran negates a 6lb rise in the ratings with his 7lb claim and further glory may be imminent Twistthenightaway made a winning handicap debut at Newcastle and is the obvious danger, although an improved performance from the down-in-class Classic Concorde wouldn’t come as a surprise.
WIN: MASK OF ZORRO
DANGER: TWISTTHENIGHTAWAY
MIRABAD was not disgraced when filling second place behind a high-class prospect in the Kingmaker at Warwick earlier in the month and, with his sights now lowered, the seven-year-old is expected to go one better. Titan Discovery won a competitive handicap hurdle at Cheltenham in December and is likely to be the biggest threat to the selection because Leading Choice has plenty to find on official ratings.
WIN: MIRABAD DANGER: TITAN DISCOVERY
JACKS PARROT has improved with each run this season and he was only denied by a length at Ludlow a week ago. The first-time application of blinkers, as well as this step up in trip, should help the seven-year-old and he gets the vote ahead of Breeze Of Wind, who was second in the Borders National at Kelso and remains on a workable mark. Astronomic View and Gold Emery are others to note.
WIN: JACKS PARROT
DANGER: BREEZE OF WIND
Copper Cove’s chance certainly hadn’t gone when he fell at the last over 2m5f at Hereford earlier in the month and he remains of interest, but the vote goes to JIAIR MADRIK. The seven-year-old returned to form when chasing home an odds-on shot at Catterick on his latest outing and he could take advantage of an unchanged rating. Port Or Starboard is the pick of the remainder.
WIN: JIAIR MADRIK
DANGER: COPPER COVE
Casual Observer is an interesting contender on his chasing bow after winning over the smaller obstacles at Ffos Las last year, but the long absence is a slight concern. With that in mind, OSTEND gets the nod. Alastair Ralph’s eight-year-old failed in his attempt to make all when third at Southwell, but has been dropped 3lb for that effort and that might prove to be kind. Bowenspark completes the shortlist
WIN: OSTEND DANGER: CASUAL OBSERVER

HORSE WELFARE
At all our race meetings there are three equine veterinary surgeons on duty They are equipped and positioned to give immediate care to injured horses. This may involve screens being erected around a fallen horse but does not necessarily mean that it is fatally injured.

British racing has reduced the number of horses that fall by a third and fatalities to 0.25% of 90,000 yearly runners.

18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.
We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.
In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.
The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:
• Take your belongings with you;
• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
