Ayr Racecard - Tuesday 5th May

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for our first flat meeting of 2026 and whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

Many thanks to all of our owners and connections for choosing to participate with their equine talent it is appreciated.

Our very own Tap Dancer runs today for the first time under the Ayr Racecourse Racing Club and as many of you will be aware the funds raised in the membership are all donated to Ayrshire Cancer Support, our charity partner which provides invaluable support services.

Looking forward to a double bill in June we race on the evening of 19 June, the very night that Scotland play Morocco in the World Cup and we will be showing the game live after racing. The Saturday fixture the following day Unite Scotland Summer Raceday features our first Class 1 race of the flat season The Land O Burns sprint for top class fillies and if that wasn’t enough also playing after racing is the fabulous Hot Dub Time Machine.

After racing we have Wullie Smith playing in Western House between 6 and 9pm please feel free to pop down and enjoy the entertainment.

I would also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and wish you all an enjoyable and successful day out at Ayr and a safe journey home.

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

Having belied his odds of 100/1 when runner-up at Doncaster recently, Stoneacre Joe shouldn’t be underestimated. Tim Easterby’s charge is heading in the right direction and isn’t taken lightly, but RAILWAYMAN may be open to more improvement. The Blue Point colt arrives on the back of a third-placed debut at Leicester and that experience should stand him in good stead. Mind Over Matter could also feature judged on the pick of his form.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - PAUL MULRENNAN

Mulrennan rides mainly for Jim Goldie and Michael Dods these days and last season’s champion Flat jockey at Ayr is back for our first meeting of the season with 5 rides split between both of those leading trainers. The rider had 3 rides at Hamilton on Sunday before 5 more yesterday at Beverley and the jockey’s current form was confirmed by last week’s winning haul including one each at Musselburgh and Southwell on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a Friday double at another of his favourite venues at Newcastle. Paul’s rides today include Tap Dancer in the 3.30, a new horse for both the trainer and last season’s hugely successful Ayr Racecourse Members Club which has arrived from Marcus Tregoning’s yard. The 4 year-old filly was a 2 yearold novice winner at Bath and her opening mark of 70 with Tregoning has now dropped to 62.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - JIM GOLDIE

Uplawmoor-based Jim was Ayr’s champion Flat trainer again in 2025 and the prolific winning handler gets our new season underway today by sending 15 horses to contest all 7 races on the card. The Goldie team made a major breakthrough in 2025 by saddling a first ever Group 1 winner when American Affair won the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot. The yard’s new stable-star wasn’t seen again last year after a sight injury problem but he’s back in full training and completed a public racecourse gallop at Musselburgh last month. Goldie saddled 8 horses at Hamilton on Sunday before loading up the lorries for Ayr and his multitude of runners allows plenty of opportunities for his number one rider Paul Mulrennan, as well as the apprentices Lauren Young, Amie Waugh and Rhys Elliott.

2025: INANNA (IRE) 5 9 7 Paul Mulrennan 2-1 (Jim Goldie) 6 ran Hood worn by No. 9. Tongue Strap worn by No. 1. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 3, 6, 7.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Ashen (IRE), 7-2 Camera Shy (IRE), 6-1 Coconut Bay (GB), 13-2 Jkr Cobbler (IRE), 10-1 Trais Fluors (GB), 12-1 Habrdi (IRE), 16-1 Little Ted (GB), 40-1 Approaching Dawn (IRE)

Ashen has posted two creditable efforts in defeat since returning from a 104-day absence and he’s likely to prove popular given the question marks surrounding most of his rivals. However, it could be worth taking a punt on C&D winner COCONUT BAY, who has fallen down the ratings and may leave last month’s eighth-placed seasonal bow at Catterick behind her. Jkr Cobbler is a feasible alternative.

Irish raider LAND OF THE GIANTS is very interesting in here on the back of an improved effort at Cork 11 days ago.
