Ayr Racecard - Tuesday 10th February

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for our February jumps meeting!

Whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today

I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today and I wish all connections the very best of luck.

We have seven great races today with lots of runners to try and choose a winner from including a Class 4 Maiden Hurdle where after today one of the equine talent will now definitely be a winner We also finish the day with a very interesting Mares National Hunt flat race where some future stars are likely to pop up.

Our Jumps season of course culminates in the Coral Scottish Grand National weekend on 17/18 April it’s the biggest jumps meeting in Scotland and this year again will very much be a Premier fixture. Who can forget last year with the Red Devils parachute display team on the Saturday and indeed Willie Mullins essentially winning the trainers title as a result of prevailing in the Scottish National, will the Red Devils and Willie appear again this year!

I would also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and hope you enjoy your day Also please feel free to visit Western House Hotel after racing where Willie Smith plays his live acoustic set from 4.30pm till 7.30pm.

The next meeting is on Monday 23 February and we look forward to welcoming you back then.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2ND 3RD 4TH TIME RACE RESULT DISTANCES

Although BURNING IT UP could only must an eighth-placed finish behind reopposing rivals So Many Roads (first) and Velvet Vulcan (second) over C&D last month, he subsequently posted an improved effort when denied in the shadows of the post at Newcastle. The reapplication of cheekpieces could prove key to the six-year-old’s fortunes and he’s taken to gain some compensation. The Coffey Boy may fare best of the remainder.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - SEAN BOWEN

The current British champion continued to enhance his reputation in Ireland last weekend with a win, a second and two fourths from his 7 rides over the two days at Leopardstown and this season’s regular visitor to Ayr is back with 5 rides this afternoon. Bowen continues to raise the bar with his riding performances this season and his current winners total is around double that of second placed Harry Skelton, but the jockey craves big-race winners to add to his burgeoning career total and his regular mount, Haiti Couleurs, boosted his Cheltenham Gold Cup winning prospects with a power-packed display to win the Denman Chase at Newbury on Saturday

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - GORDON ELLIOTT

Elliott’s form in Ireland this season has had many observers suggesting he could topple Willie Mullins as champion trainer but the 3-times Grand National winning handler continues to play down his prospects, despite the bookies having him as short as 2/1. Wins here at Ayr don’t count towards that total, of course, but Elliott’s current total of over 4million euros win and place prize money is some half a million more than his biggest rival Mullins after last weekend’s Dublin Racing Festival. Elliott’s British total is 19 winners from 76 runners coming into today’s fixture, with his 25% strike-rate topped by his 5-year rate at Ayr of 33% and the trainer has 4 runners today, all ridden by his main British riding ally, the current champion jockey Sean Bowen.

Gordon Elliott has already enjoyed plenty of success at Ayr this season and it would be no surprise to see Nopresentliketime going close on his hurdling debut. The six-year-old must enter the reckoning, along with easy Listowel bumper winner Apache Tribe, but GREEN ANGEL could put his experience in this discipline to good use. Stuart Crawford’s gelding offered plenty of encouragement on his fourth-placed timber bow over 2m1f at Down Royal on Boxing Day and this step up in trip looks ideal.

4TH TIME

The eye is immediately drawn to the Willie Mullins-trained GOULMICHETTE. She could hardly have been more impressive when winning an Irish point-to-point last year and now starts under Rules for leading connections boasting every chance. Fellow Irish raider Poetic Twist is entitled to have improved for her Cork effort and joins Latosca Du Houx and Oor Wish on the shortlist. totewin: Goulmichette toteeachway: Poetic Twist
