8 Form guide

9 Age

10 Weight

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time) going allowance number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

JIRKO has been running with credit here over 3m and this appears to be an excellent opportunity for Nick Alexander’s gelding to get off the mark. The drop in trip and first-time cheekpieces suggest he is likely to bounce out and be ridden aggressively, which may see him in a better light. Heads Or Harps is preferred of the Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore pairing, but don’t discount Walking On A Dream back in distance.

LA ZOUBIDA was turned over at Sedgefield when giving away 12lb to a rival who subsequently performed with credit in handicap company. TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - NICK ALEXANDER

Nick was in the winners’ enclosure twice at our last meeting here on February 23 and those victories for his veteran chaser Dubai Days and 8 year-old handicap hurdler Eloi Du Puy were simply confirmation that the trainer’s horses are in rude health for their spring campaigns. The trainer tops the table for winners here at Ayr over the past 5 seasons and his 5 runners today include Jirko in our opener at 2.20 and top-weight Platin Moon in the handicap hurdle at 3.50 The trainer saddled Scarlet Jet to be second in the race named after his father Cyril at Kelso on Saturday and he was back amongst the winners at Newcastle on Tuesday when conditional Dom Hislop rode Whiskey On Ice to win the stayers’ handicap hurdle.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - JONJO O’NEILL JNR

Jonjo, or “Jonj jnr” is the son of the twice champion jumps jockey Jonjo O’Neill who currently shares the training licence at Jackdaws Castle in Gloucestershire with his other son AJ and famously rode Gold Cup winners Alverton (1979) and Dawn Run (1986). Jonjo senior was a regular at Ayr in the 1970s and 80s with back-to-back Scottish Champion Hurdle wins on the legendary Sea Pigeon in 1977 and 78 but Jonj Jnr’s visits to Ayr have been rare due to commitments in the south and he’ll be looking to add to his 2 wins from 17 rides over the past 5 seasons when he gets the leg up on the sure to be well fancied Largy Go (3.20) and Assertive Walk (4.20), both trained by his dad and younger brother 12% SUCCESS RATE AT AYR OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS

SHE’S NOTJOEKING appreciated dropping slightly in trip and being ridden positively at Newcastle when making all and is taken to put in another bold showing now confidence has been restored. This is no penalty kick, though, as Platin Moon won over C&D two starts ago and continued in good form courtesy of a Musselburgh third. Course scorer The Coffey Boy is another expected to go well. totewin: She’s Notjoeking toteeachway: Platin Moon

The eye is immediately drawn to Thank You Blue and KAZAR FOREZ chasing four-timers and it’s the latter who might just continue on his merry way. Thank You Blue won’t be inconvenienced going back up in trip, but the Micky Hammond-trained six-year-old is slightly more appealing given he lines up in receipt of weight and looked to be crying out for further when asserting close home over just short of 2m at Catterick. Chanceawetmorning is noted too.

A big improver here last time out when claiming the silver medal, the gut feeling is that TOROSAY won’t need much more in order to strike and she has ground conditions to suit too. Nights In Venice chased home a runaway winner at Kelso and may have to settle for a supporting role again, while King Horse is another who finished second last time and he’s open to plenty of improvement over fences.
