C H A I R M A N ’ S W E L C O M E

Welcome to the second day of the BetMGM Autumn Racing Weekend, our penultimate raceday of the Flat season, featuring the 18th Ascot Beer Festival in association with CAMRA.

We extend our thanks to BetMGM for their overall sponsorship of this two-day event, as well as four races on today’s card. The BetMGM Challenge Cup, the richest seven-furlong handicap in the country, was won last year in impressive style by Volterra –let’s hope we are treated to another scintillating performance in this year’s renewal.

The Group 3 BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes, our third race, was won 12 months ago by Al Qareem for the second year running and he will bid to become the first ever three-time winner of this race. 2022 victor Hamish is also in the field as is Tenability, the three-time winner at Ascot.

Our thanks also go to John Guest Racing who continue their long-standing and greatly appreciated sponsorship of the Group 3 Bengough Stakes, which sees the last two winners of the race, Annaf and Apollo One, among the field. We also thank the British EBF for their support of our opening race, the Listed October Stakes.

As well as the action on the track, there are over 160 beers, ciders and perries to quench your thirst at the Ascot Beer Festival in association with CAMRA. You will be able to find the Festival at the east end of the Grandstand.

Our final race is the Ascot Racecourse Supports Berks County FC Handicap Stakes and we are proud to sponsor the U10 Girls and U11 Boys teams of this community football club which comprises more than 35 youth teams.

This activity forms part of our Ascot Racecourse Supports programme which in September, saw our annual staff volunteers’ week take place. This year, 100 members of staff headed out into the community to volunteer at 17 local charities with 461 volunteer hours contributed.

Today’s bucket collection is on behalf of the Army Benevolent Fund who will also be selling merchandise on their stand in the Grandstand concourse.

We look forward to welcoming you back here on Saturday 18th October for QIPCO British Champions Day, which promises to be a thrilling finish to the British Flat season and our final Flat fixture of 2025.

Yours sincerely,

Sir Francis Brooke Bt.

His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

RACING PAGES

Your guide to all of today’s races

The BetMGM British EBF October Stakes (Listed Race)

This seven furlong race is at Listed level but this time is limited to fillies and mares Many of the runners in this race will have already shown themselves to be talented and this race provides a perfect medium for them to be tested against a better class of rival before making the jump into a Group race. Initially, three-year-olds are set to carry 9st, while four year olds and upwards will carry 9st 2lb, before any penalties are applied.

PAGES 20-22

2nd Race 1.50pm

The BetMGM Rous Stakes (Listed Race)

This five furlong contest for three-year-olds and upwards is a Listed race; a race that can only be bettered by a Group 1, 2 or 3 race. Initially, the weights are set at 9st 3lb for colts and geldings and 8st 12lb for fillies before penalties are awarded to horses that have previously won above a certain level – 3lb for a Listed race victory, 5lb for a Group 3 success and 7lb for a Group 1 or 2.

PAGES 26-27

3rd Race 2.25pm

The BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Group 3)

This one mile and four furlong race for three-year-olds and upwards is a Group 3 contest – a race which can only be bettered by a Group 1 or 2. Initially, the weights are allocated on the basis of age and sex before penalties are awarded to horses which have won above a certain level prior to lining up here – 3lb to Group 3 winners, 5lb for a Group 2 or 7lb to those successful in a Group 1.

PAGES 32-34

4th Race 3.00pm

The John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (Group 3)

Just like the previous contest, this is also a Group 3 race but over six furlongs In a Group 3 race, runners will have already posted form well above average and some may use this as a stepping-stone to even greater things in the future.

PAGES 48-51

5th Race 3.35pm

The BetMGM Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap)

This race is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from within a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

PAGES 56-58

6th Race 4.10pm

The Ascot Racecourse Supports Berks County FC Handicap Stakes

This is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 105 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130

22. Official BHA Rating

The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 23. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

Cajole leaves the impression there’s a bigger effort in her locker, while Miss Nightfall, Dubai Treasure and Flight are a trio of others to note.

The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006.

The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces.

Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree

as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.

Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties

Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. TIMEFORM SUMMARY

Last year’s runner-up BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND is taken to go one better on the back of a dominant display at Ayr 15 days ago. That was just her second start of the season, so she arrives here fresher than most and her versatility ground-wise means that she won’t be inconvenienced by whatever the weather has in store. Shagraan, another consistent type who goes on most ground-types, looks rock-solid and he is feared most ahead of upwardly mobile 3-y-o Candy.

Last February, Simone Meloni was crowned Employee of the Year at the 2025 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, sponsored by Godolphin and organised by the BHA. The awards recognise and celebrate the dedication of those working across British racing in training yards and studs who are the backbone of the sport.

Employed by Nicky Henderson, Simone collected his prize at a glittering ceremony held at York Racecourse. Having already won the Rider/Racing Groom Award earlier in the evening, he went on to claim the overall title, winning £30,000 of the awards £128,000 total prize money pot, which was shared between himself and Nicky Henderson’s yard to benefit the Seven Barrows team.

Simone’s journey to the yard of leading jumps trainer Nicky Henderson began in his native Italy, where he first developed his skills and passion through showjumping. Simone is known for his meticulous attention to detail in caring for each horse as an individual, as well as for his infectious enthusiasm and positivity, and the judges praised not only his horsemanship but also the uplifting effect he has on the entire yard

Reflecting on his win, Simone said:

“I was really happy to win the awards and to give something back. We celebrated with a nice dinner with everyone from Seven Barrows, and later my parents organised a big party in Italy! But the best moment was returning to the yard after the ceremony and seeing how happy everyone was, that meant the most to me. ”

Nicky Henderson added:

“This was something very special. We were so proud to nominate someone who not only won his category but also the Employee of the Year. It is much deserved. The whole team got behind him and with the prize money we’ve updated a room on the yard into a communal space for everyone to enjoy. Furthermore, Simone has now been promoted to Barn Manager for the season - he really is exceptional.”

Simone’s story is a reminder of the passion, skill, and dedication that define the very best of British racing, together with how these awards really make a difference to both the person as well as to the teams they work alongside.

Looking ahead to 2026, the awards ceremony will return to the prestigious venue of Ascot Racecourse, and with generous backing of Ascot Racecourse Supports, it promises to build on their success and once again provide a fitting celebration of the skill and commitment of the people at the heart of British Racing.

For further information on the 2026 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, including categories and criteria, and to nominate visit thoroughbredawards.co.uk. Nominations close Tuesday 4 November.

BEYOND Where Waterfront Living Becomes a State of Mind

BEYOND Developments is honoured to be the Official Real Estate Partner of Ascot and Royal Ascot. This collaboration reflects more than a shared commitment to legacy, elegance and excellence It represents a meeting of philosophies that celebrate life with intention, grace and imagination. For BEYOND, the waterfront is not just a setting. It is a way of living.

Born in Dubai, a city where the horse is more than a symbol but a reflection of heritage, pride and progress, our vision is inspired by the same values that define the equestrian world. Much like Ascot, Dubai blends tradition with ambition, refinement with vitality. Within this cultural fabric, BEYOND was established as part of the OMNIYAT Group to create lifestyle destinations that are emotionally resonant, designled and deeply human.

Every project begins with a location shaped by natural beauty, close to the sea, sand and sky Architecture flows with the landscape, softening the boundaries between indoors and out. These are places designed for people, where comfort, wellbeing and connection come together effortlessly Nature plays a vital role, with shaded walkways, lush gardens and waterfront promenades that bring both calm and energy into daily life.

This philosophy finds its boldest expression in BEYOND’s 8 million sq. ft. masterplan at Dubai Maritime City, home to the region’s first Forest District by the Sea. With 65,000 square

meters of community parks, including 55,000 square meters of native woodland, this nature-first destination redefines coastal living. Within this masterplan, BEYOND has launched six signature projects to date: Aria, Saria, ORISE, Sensia, The Mural, and Talea, each crafted in collaboration with worldrenowned architecture firms including BENOY, SOMA, Nabil Gholam, HBA, and DWP.

Rooted in cultural awareness and shaped with intention, BEYOND creates environments that awaken imagination and elevate the experience of home Every detail is considered, offering more than just a residence, but a place to feel grounded, inspired and free

At its heart, this partnership is about more than alignment. It’s about aspiration, a shared belief in creating experiences that endure. TIMEFORM SUMMARY

The combination of the drop back in trip and ease in class could be just what QUINAULT needs. Indeed, the 5-y-o was successful on his latest run in Group 3 company at York in June and has subsequently been finding 7f too stiff a test in higher-grade races. He may well have most to fear from the 2024 and 2023 winners of this race, Apollo One and Annaf respectively, while cases can also be made for last month’s York listed 1-3 Elmonjed and Prince of India.

Incidentally, they were the same races that Dragon King contested prior to winning this for the yard in 2023 and Song of The Clyde is taken to repeat the dose. Today, we are delighted to welcome back volunteers from the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), led by Major Will Tower MBE, Regional Director South-East.

We invite them on this raceday to sell merchandise and to be our bucket collectors. They raise awareness for their important work in supporting about 80,000 Army families per year, across 52 countries worldwide.

The ABF was also here at Royal Ascot. It joined forces with The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and the RAF Benevolent Fund (the Tri-Forces), to receive a collective donation of £32,600.

This donation reflects various food and beverage sales during the week – with every jug of Pimms and Royal Ascot Blush sold on the Wednesday and Friday contributing £2.50. This dovetailed with our 50% discounted ticket offer on those days for all serving military

In the past five years, we are proud to report that over £300,000 has been donated to the Tri-Forces via our charity programme, Ascot Racecourse Supports. In addition, the three charities raised £33,300 from bucket collections on those days.

We hope that racegoers today will again be generous in supporting the ABF.

A thriving community football club comprising more than 35 youth teams, alongside established Men’s and Women’s First Teams, Berks County FC provides clear pathways and aspirational goals for younger players

The club was formed in 2009 following the merger of Sunninghill Saints’ junior teams and Bracknell Rovers’ senior teams. Since then, it has continued to grow in both size and stature, with the Men’s First Team currently competing at Step 6. In 2023, the Women’s First Team was established to complete the development pathway for girls, further strengthening opportunities for all players.

Berks County FC is a registered charity, funded through sponsorships, donations, and fundraising initiatives.

While the club is primarily based in the Ascot and Sunningdale area, teams also extend to Egham, Bracknell, and Thatcham.

Today, to help promote the club, we are delighted to welcome players from the U10 Girls and U11 Boys teams who have received sponsorship for the upcoming season via our Ascot Racecourse Supports community/charity programme. This dovetails with our continued sponsorship of the Ascot United Warriors – a football team comprised of determined and talented athletes with special needs who compete in events for the Special Olympics

As a true community club, Berks County FC is always seeking new partners and supporters to help continue its growth and impact.

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
