Welcome to the Fireworks Spectacular Family Raceday which starts the 2025/26 Jumps at Ascot season with a bang.
This is the first of eight Jumps fixtures throughout the season, and we are pleased to be offering more than £2.5 million of prize money across 54 races Last season we welcomed some of the best Jumps horses from both sides of the Irish Sea with the likes of Jonbon, Energumene, Crambo, Pic D’Orhy, Kargese, Chianti Classico and Lulamba all appearing in Berkshire over the winter months
Today, the seven-race card is worth £325,000 and highlights include the two-mile £100,000 Grundon Waste Management Chase which sees a number of familiar faces including last year’s winner Martator and 2023 victor Boothill as well as Grade 1 scorer L’Eau Du Sud. The feature race, the £100,000 Sodexo Live! Handicap Chase, includes this year’s Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase hero The Changing Man.
Our grateful thanks go to all of today’s sponsors for their support of this card including Grundon Waste Management, Ascot Underwriting, GL events, Sodexo Live! and Lavazza.
Once the racing is over, the skies will be lit up by one of the region’s largest fireworks displays, hosted in association with the Ascot Round Table. Our final race is named to support the community organisation whose members and volunteers have been running tonight’s firework display for over 40 years in support of local charities and community groups
We are pleased to once again promote our Bet With Ascot donation boxes across site for the 2025/26 Jumps season. Each box has two charities which racegoers can choose to support by placing their losing betting slips, with their telephone number noted, into one of the boxes for a chance of winning a hospitality prize. At the end of the season, the box with the most slips receives £1,000 with £500 donated to the other charity. This season we are supporting local charity Alma Beacon and equine charity Strength & Learning Through Horses
Our next meeting will be the Ladbrokes November Racing Weekend in just under three weeks. We hope to welcome you back to Ascot then.
Yours sincerely,

Sir Francis Brooke Bt. His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

Your guide to all of today’s races
The Grundon Waste Management Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Handicap Hurdle Race
Our opener is a handicap hurdle for novice three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 120 Today’s trip is just over two miles and three furlongs In a handicap, the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating, which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher-rated horses to carry more weight than a lower-rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale, whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170
PAGES 20-21
2nd Race 1.30pm
The Ascot Underwriting Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
This is a two mile and three furlong handicap steeple chase for novice four-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from within a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Even so, the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tends to make these handicaps very competitive races
PAGES 24-26
3rd Race 2.05pm
The Grundon Waste Management Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap)
The first of our premier handicap steeple chases, this specific race is for four-year-olds and upwards to be run over two miles This race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part.
PAGES 32-33
4th Race 2.35pm
The GL events Novices’ Hurdle Race Novice races tend to be for younger horses that are still learning their way over hurdles or fences, allowing them to compete against each other before graduating up the ranks Horses are classed as a novice if they have yet to win a race under the respective code prior to the official start of the season, which is towards the end of April. This particular two-mile novices’ hurdle is for horses aged four and upwards.
PAGES 40-42
5th Race 3.10pm
The Lavazza Handicap Hurdle Race
This is a two mile handicap hurdle for three-year-olds and upwards. This contest is similar to our previous race however it is for seasoned handicappers as opposed to novices Horses are allocated weights depending on their ratings
PAGES 46-48
6th Race 3.45pm
The Sodexo Live! Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap)
The second of our premier handicap steeple chases, this specific race is for four-year-olds and upwards to be run over a distance of just under three miles Our feature race of the day also has no rating restrictions
PAGES 56-58
7th Race 4.20pm
The Ascot Round Table Open National Hunt Flat Race
As the title suggests, a National Hunt Flat Race, or ‘bumper’ as they are more commonly referred to, is a race that takes place without any fences or hurdles Designed for young horses that, it is presumed, will go jumping in time, only debutants or horses that have run in this type of race (or an Irish or French equivalent) are qualified to run. If they have previously run on the Flat or in hurdle races or steeple chases (except for point-to-points), they are unable to enter. This particular contest is restricted to horses aged four & five and will be run over two miles

The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 22. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants
For Jumps racing, we introduced one-fit padded hurdles at the start of the 2018 season, becoming the first Grade 1 track to do so These are now widely used across Jumps racing and have seen the risk of falling reduce by 11 per cent while also resulting in fewer superficial injuries.
At the start of the 2022/23 season, the wood and vinyl padding on the take-off boards, guard rails and top boards for all chase fences and hurdles were switched from orange to white. This was part of an industry-wide project following research from Exeter University that showed white provides increased contrast and visibility for horses, leading to improved jumping performance. More generally, four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties
Significant changes were made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006. The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn also has equine misting fans to aid with post-race cooling of horses.
Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys. The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy

NO QUESTIONS ASKED has always appealed as one who should make at least as good a chaser as hurdler and gets the nod to make a winning start, perhaps at the expense of Viroflay, who is having his sixth start over fences and has a front-running style which could expose any novicey jumping from his less-experienced rivals. 1. Dan Skelton’s L’EAU DU SUD made great strides over fences as a novice last season, winning four times and also coming in fourth in the Arkle, and he is fancied to garner another victory dropped to handicap company for his seasonal return. Henry de Bromhead’s Special Cadeau is feared most on the back of a resurgent Roscommon second, although plenty of others also make appeal, notably General Medrano, Shakeyatailfeather and Sans Bruit. Last year’s winner Martator completes the shortlist.

TIMEFORM SUMMARY
The one who appeals most is PROTEKTORAT, who was unsuccessful when bidding to defend his Ryanair Chase crown during the spring, but he followed that with a solid effort in defeat at Aintree and the 10-y-o is likely to benefit from this step back up in trip Hewick warmed up for this assignment with a hurdles success at Thurles and he is next on the list ahead of Pic d’Orhy, who will be a danger to all if his stamina passes the test. Last year’s winner The Real Whacker also merits respect.

Last February, Simone Meloni was crowned Employee of the Year at the 2025 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, sponsored by Godolphin and organised by the BHA. The awards recognise and celebrate the dedication of those working across British racing in training yards and studs who are the backbone of the sport.
Employed by Nicky Henderson, Simone collected his prize at a glittering ceremony held at York Racecourse. Having already won the Rider/Racing Groom Award earlier in the evening, he went on to claim the overall title, winning £30,000 of the awards £128,000 total prize money pot, which was shared between himself and Nicky Henderson’s yard to benefit the Seven Barrows team.
Simone’s journey to the yard of leading jumps trainer Nicky Henderson began in his native Italy, where he first developed his skills and passion through showjumping. Simone is known for his meticulous attention to detail in caring for each horse as an individual, as well as for his infectious enthusiasm and positivity, and the judges praised not only his horsemanship but also the uplifting effect he has on the entire yard
Reflecting on his win, Simone said:
“I was really happy to win the awards and to give something back. We celebrated with a nice dinner with everyone from Seven Barrows, and later my parents organised a big party in Italy! But the best moment was returning to the yard after the ceremony and seeing how happy everyone was, that meant the most to me. ”

Nicky Henderson added:
“This was something very special. We were so proud to nominate someone who not only won his category but also the Employee of the Year. It is much deserved. The whole team got behind him and with the prize money we’ve updated a room on the yard into a communal space for everyone to enjoy. Furthermore, Simone has now been promoted to Barn Manager for the season - he really is exceptional.”
Simone’s story is a reminder of the passion, skill, and dedication that define the very best of British racing, together with how these awards really make a difference to both the person as well as to the teams they work alongside.
Looking ahead to 2026, the awards ceremony will return to the prestigious venue of Ascot Racecourse, and with generous backing of Ascot Racecourse Supports, it promises to build on their success and once again provide a fitting celebration of the skill and commitment of the people at the heart of British Racing.
For further information on the 2026 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, including categories and criteria, and to nominate visit thoroughbredawards.co.uk. Nominations close Tuesday 4 November.

Ascot Round Table is a community organisation of loyal, committed and connected volunteers that come together to support local communities and charities. We’re really proud to once again partner with Ascot Racecourse in bringing this incredible fireworks display to the community
The Round Table has been running the fireworks for over four decades starting all the way back in 1981. We’ve moved from place to place over those years, but in 2008 found our forever home at Ascot Racecourse who have kindly supported us and this event ever since. Of course, it’s not just the location but the fireworks themselves and huge thanks go to Star Fireworks who have supported the charity for many years and who put on an award-winning show.
The main reason we all volunteer to put on this show is because every pound raised goes to support causes in Ascot, Bracknell and the surrounding areas. Your ticket is a donation that enables us to support a number of local charities and groups such as Sebastian’s Action Trust, Ascot Day Centre, Sunningdale Scouts, Sunninghill’s Food4children, Ascot Heath Primary School, Charters School and many other schools, businesses and charities in the area.
Our members contribute in excess of £6,500,000 to local communities every single year, donating more than 157,780 hours of their time – which equates to 6,575 days – or 940 weeks – or 18 years!
Of course, there is no work without play and our members regularly get together with organised activities such as white-water rafting, hiking, zorbing, crazy golf, learning how to make the perfect sushi or taking a tour

of the local brewery. The shared camaraderie brings us together and we’re proud of the lifelong friendships that are formed here.
If being a key part of a like-minded group supporting the community excites you, then come check us out at ascotroundtable.com and do something different!

In honour of the charities work, Ascot Racecourse has named the 4.20pm race “The Ascot Round Table Open National Hunt Flat Race” with charity members given the privilege of judging the best turned out horse and presenting trophies to winning connections.

Point winner HITINTHEHEADLINES makes obvious appeal starting out for Dan Skelton and gets the vote before market clues. Harry Fry has a very healthy 22% strike-rate in bumpers in the last 5 seasons so Governors Island is another who could have a say if the betting suggests he’s fancied. Warwick winner Bathara could go well again under a penalty.

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances:
a) Abandonment before the running of the first race – full refund.
b) Abandonment before the third or feature race, whichever is later – 50% refund
Where the provision of hospitality services has commenced and the raceday is subsequently abandoned there will be no refund for the hospitality.
In the event of an abandonment there is no need to contact us, we will be in touch with next steps and any required actions.
The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £1,327,940 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 15th September to 31st December 2025.
