In the next year Mo and Reverend Beiting exchanged ideas about the possi­ bility of establishing a Group Home for boys. Mo felt, with some con­ viction, that he wanted to continue his ministry in the area of rehabili­ tation, and that fitted nicely with a persistent dream of Reverend Beiting to establish a Group Home for troubled youth of Appalachia. On the sparsely populated Jessamine County side of the Ken­ tucky River (North side), across a wooden bridge and up a half mile of winding gravel road, the CAP Group Home for Boys was estab­ lished. Mo put in another year on the new home with Bob, a licensed electrician and some other help, and the farm was readied for CAP's charges. In August of 1975 the

For fourteen years Mo Mercier was a Missionary Brother in Mass­ achusetts, directing family retreat programs. In 1971 he brought a group of 18 young adults to Ken­ tucky for a summer of spiritual re­ newal. That summer had consid­ erable impact on him. Two years later he asked for a leave of absence from his community and traveled the same time Mo was spending some time with representatives of the State Department of Rehabili­ tation Services. Before the Group Home could receive its first boy it had to be licensed by the State, and this involved considerable adminis­ trative preparation. The Home could be realized, and the State of Ken­ tucky was interested, even enthusi­ astic, about the program, but first the required administrative prepara­ tion must be accomplished.
