Closing Remarks

The WCA has been an important community partner for more than 116 years. Originally started as the YWCA by nine pioneering women, it offered safe housing for women drawn from rural areas to Boise for work. Building on this foundation, the WCA is focused on a core mission of providing safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.

The WCA operates a 24-hour hotline, two safe long-term shelters and programs for clients, including professional counseling with Masterlevel clinicians, child play therapy, support groups, safety planning, case management and licensed residential childcare.

Through the court advocacy program, the WCA provides assistance to petitioners seeking civil protection and court accompaniment to proceedings. The WCA’s client advocates provide crisis intervention, advocacy and support.

Education and outreach is offered through community presentations and 35-minute WCA virtual Mission Tours in which participants learn about the prevalence of domestic abuse and sexual assault, and ways to get involved. The WCA has a very active volunteer program, with one-time and ongoing opportunities for individuals and groups.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the WCA relies on grants from federal, state and local agencies, and the generosity of individual donors and corporate partners to provide essential funds and in-kind donations. With an annual operating budget of more than $4 million, 91% of all funding goes directly to client services.

Honoring Those Who Make a Positive Impact on the Growth

and Advancement of Women

Congratulations to 2025 Joyce Stein Memorial Award Recipient Dee Mooney, Board Chair, Idaho STEM Action Center; Former Executive Director, Micron Foundation

Under DeeMooney’s nearly two decades of leadership, the Micron Foundation signi cantly advanced support for women and families in Idaho—anchoring its efforts in empowerment through STEM, women in leadership, and community care. As Executive Director, she helped found the Micron Women’s Leadership Network (MWLN), amplifying its impact with over 7,000 members globally, 500+ mentor–mentee pairs, and the Women Innovate Network to support female inventors securing game-changing patents. Mooney steered a bold $10million commitment toward underrepresented groups—including women—creating pathways into tech and engineering careers via outreach like coding workshops and mentorship programs. She championed hands-on science experiences—such as “Chip Camp” and STEM Bus USA—which brought immersive learning in STEM to thousands of school-aged girls statewide Under her direction, the Foundation has also deepened community ties: Micron Gives teams regularly support Idaho families via the Idaho Foodbank’s turkey and ham drives, reinforcing family wellbeing around the holidays. By fusing STEM equity with tangible community aid, Mooney has left an empowering legacy for Idaho’s women and families.
