The Annual Holiday Guest Pro Clinic was a hit with this talented group of women. They spent the day refining their skills, improving their game, and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow players. A special thanks to our guest pros for their guidance and expertise!

There’s a winter chill outside, but our young tennis stars are full of energy indoors! Jumping, laughing, and perfecting their skills, they’re proving that the love for the game never stops, no matter the season!

Manager’s Message

Hello Members,

There is so much to look forward to at the Club this year. We can already feel the energy building! The Sports Center is buzzing with activity, with Members fully embracing our racquet sports and fitness programs. The Junior Tennis programs are more vibrant than ever, and it’s been a joy watching our young members develop a passion for the game.

The Grill Room, which reopened for dinner service in early January, is set to reintroduce lunch service beginning February 5th. Don’t forget to take advantage of online dining reservations on the Member Central side of the website. New grill room menu items will be rolling out soon, and we can’t wait for you to taste what’s coming!

We’re gearing up for a memorable Valentine’s Weekend on February 14th and 15th, offering the perfect opportunity to celebrate with a special dinner menu and romantic evening with your Valentine at the Club. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for our St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on March 15th—a lively, festive night featuring live music and traditional Irish fare!

Our department heads are hard at work planning for a busy year of programs to keep everyone engaged and active, and we are already looking forward to the busy summer ahead!

We look forward to seeing you back at the Club soon!

Thank you,

Message from the Course Superintendent

Hi Everyone,

The weather this winter has certainly been unpredictable—snow, rain, sub-zero temperatures, and even January thaws! Despite these challenges, my team and I have been busy with tree pruning around the course to enhance playability and improve growing conditions. We’re also prepping areas that were heavily impacted by last season’s extreme heat and drought, getting them ready for seeding. As we move through the rest of the winter, we’ll focus on reconditioning all of our course maintenance equipment to ensure that it’s in top shape for the season ahead.

Golf Rules Quiz

Below are scenarios of players hitting their golf balls by accident. Choose the two scenarios that are permitted by the rules of golf.

a. Zach teed his golf ball up on the tee box. He took a practice swing, then looked back at his caddie and accidentally knocked his ball off the tee with his driver. Zach re-teed his ball and played the hole without taking a penalty.

b. Jay saw his ball lying in the fairway after hitting a 340-yard drive. Jay accidentally kicked his ball with his foot when he got to it. Jay never took a penalty stroke because he accidentally kicked his ball.

c. Linda took a practice swing on the putting green and accidentally hit her ball. After she accidentally hit the ball, she returned it to its original place on the putting green. She then putted without taking a penalty and made the putt.

d. Scott was in the rough and took a practice swing right next to his ball. While taking the practice swing, Scott hit his ball by accident. He felt embarrassed and ran to get his ball and put it back. Scott hit his ball pin high and finished the hole without taking a penalty.

Answers: a & c

Golf Tip - Texas Wedge

A Texas wedge refers to using your putter from off the green, typically on closely mowed areas or fairways. If you are struggling with short chips, use your putter to help avoid the dreaded yips. Treat the shot like a long-lag putt. Be sure to adjust the speed of your putt to account for the different playing surfaces. The Texas wedge can be helpful when playing golf courses outside New England with tight lies around the greens (ie: FL, TX, AZ courses).

Fitness with Ken

Good Day Members,

The number one question I’m asked around this time of year is, “I’m going on vacation for a couple of weeks—how can I keep up with my workouts while I don’t have access to a gym?”

First off, don’t worry about muscle loss right away! If you’ve been working out regularly, it typically takes about three weeks for muscle atrophy to set in. So, if you’re planning on continuing your fitness routine while you’re traveling, I’ve got you covered with what I call the “Traveler’s Workout.”

This strength routine is designed to be done 2-3 times per week (but never on consecutive days). Here’s the breakdown:

1. Push-ups (max reps) — do them on your hands or knees, depending on your ability.

2. Lunges — 12 reps per leg.

3. Crunches / Bicycles — max reps.

Repeat this circuit three times in a row, keeping rest periods as short as possible to elevate your heart rate. This workout will keep you moving and maintain your fitness even when you’re away from the gym!

Also, have you checked out our fantastic class offerings at the Sport Center?

• Strength Training with Ken: Tuesdays at 9:00 AM

• Mobility with Melissa: Wednesdays at 9:00 AM

• Aligned Flow with Melissa: Saturdays at 9:00 AM

All classes are held upstairs in the recreation room at the Sports Center and are drop-in style.

As always, if you have any questions or need advice, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Thank you,

-

Chef’s Recipe Slow Braised Beef Bourguignon

Ingredients:

• 3 lbs. chuck roast

• 3 large Spanish onions, diced

• 2 heads of celery, diced

• 6 carrots, diced

• 4 quarts beef broth

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions:

• 1 lb. pearl onions

• 1 bunch fresh thyme

• 1 bottle of quality red wine (traditionally Burgundy)— save half for drinking!

• 2 lbs. fingerling potatoes

Dice the carrots, celery, and Spanish onions, and set aside. Mince garlic and set aside. Generously season the chuck roast with salt and pepper. Heat a large cast-iron pan over high heat. Sear the roast on all sides until browned. Place the seared roast into a slow cooker (crock pots work great!). In the same pan, sauté the diced vegetables (carrots, celery, onions) until softened. Pour in the wine to deglaze the pan, scraping up all the browned bits for extra flavor. Transfer the sautéed vegetables and wine mixture into the slow cooker. Add the beef broth, garlic, pearl onions, and thyme. Set the slow cooker to medium heat and cook for 4 hours. After 4 hours, add the fingerling potatoes to the slow cooker. Continue cooking for an additional hour or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Serve warm with the remaining wine and a cozy atmosphere - especially if there’s snow falling outside!
