The following quotation is prominently displayed at the Del Mar Water Polo Club in California: “When you are passionate, you always have your destination in sight and are not distracted by obstacles.” Wynberg Boys’ High School always encourages passionate participation, and when it comes to a water polo tournament of this nature, which is being hosted for the 19th year, the commitment and enthusiasm of all the boys involved are always clear to see. I trust that this year will be no different from previous years, during which the excitement and passion for this growing sport were tangible! It gives me great pleasure to welcome all the players, coaches, managers, referees, parents and supporters to the 2026 Ian Melliar Cup. This event has always delivered keen competition, good sportsmanship and a high standard of U15 Water Polo, and I trust that this year will be no exception. May all the teams remain humble in competition, forge new friendships, and develop their skills during this event. Coaches, spectators, and parents are reminded to applaud good play and set a good example as role models to the players whilst supporting their sons. Your involvement in the lives of these young people during their formative years is invaluable but comes with great responsibility. I would like to thank our sponsors, aQuellé and Mr Ron Roos from TLC Flooring as well as our referees and students who will assist with live commentary and tabling during the tournament. Without your support, we would not be able to host this prestigious tournament! Thank you also to the Wynberg Boys’ High School staff team for sacrificing their time to organise this event, the parents for volunteering to assist, our boys who run the First Aid, sound, score table, photography and live streaming and all those who have travelled from afar to support this tournament. I wish you all an enjoyable stay in Cape Town and I look forward to seeing you at the side of the pool!

DIRECTOR’S WELCOME #IMCUP26

It is with great pleasure that I welcome all teams and schools to the 19th Ian Melliar Cup. What began as a tournament built around a love of sport, camaraderie, and competition has grown into a muchanticipated event that brings together players, families, officials, supporters, and friends of the game. As we celebrate the 19th edition, we also celebrate the traditions, friendships, and memories that have made the tournament what it is today. To all the participants, may you enjoy the competition, embrace the spirit of the game and, most importantly, enjoy the opportunity to share this special occasion with fellow competitors. The Ian Melliar Cup is about more than the result on the day. It is about respect, sportsmanship, friendship, and creating lasting memories. I encourage everyone to play hard, play fair, and make the most of every moment. This tournament also presents a very special annual award, the Keith Richardson Award for Sportsmanship, to the team that demonstrates the best sportsmanship and spirit throughout the event. Mr Richardson, the 13th Headmaster of WBHS, passed away on Friday, 18 September, just days before the start of the tournament he supported and championed since its inception. May his passion for sportsmanship at every level of competition continue to be a guiding principle to us all, wherever we may play. Sincere thanks to our officials, volunteers, sponsors, organisers, and everyone working behind the scenes. Their time, commitment, and support are essential to making this event possible. On behalf of the organising committee, I wish all participants the very best for the tournament and trust that this year will be another memorable chapter in the history of this wonderful event. 1. General Tournament Rules 1.1 These Tournament Rules shall apply to all participating teams, players, coaches, managers, officials and attendees, unless otherwise specifically stipulated. 1.2 Any further or subsequent amendments to these Tournament Rules, as well as any decisions taken at any time by the Tournament Director(s), shall be FINAL and binding. 1.3 The Tournament Organisers shall have sole discretion regarding: The selection and invitation of participating teams. The allocation of teams into Round-Robin Groups. Any other organisational matters relating to the Tournament. 1.4 The U15 Tournament will consist of four (4) Round-Robin Groups of five (5) teams each. 1.5 Each team will play one (1) match against each of the other teams in its RoundRobin Group. 2. Player Eligibility & Team Registration 2.1 Teams may ONLY include players who are registered scholars at the applicable school, unless special dispensation has been granted by the Tournament Organiser(s). 2.2 Any team found to have fielded an ineligible player shall forfeit any game(s) in which the offending player participated. 2.3 A maximum of thirteen (13) players may be included on a team's official Tournament Entrance Form. 2.4 If a team uses more than thirteen (13) players during the Tournament, the team shall forfeit any game(s) in which the additional player(s) participated, unless special dispensation has been granted by the Tournament Organiser(s). 2.5 Teams may register more than one goalkeeper within their permitted thirteen (13) players, but are not required to do so. 2.6 Teams without a designated goalkeeper may use or rotate field players as goalkeeper(s). 2.7 Goalkeepers must wear RED Match Caps, numbered #1 or #13. 2.8 An injured player may NOT be replaced by a player who was not listed on the team's official Tournament Entrance Form. 2.9 Players must wear the same Match Cap Number recorded on their team's Tournament Entrance Form for the entire duration of the Tournament.

3. Tournament Administration & Queries 3.1 Coaches and Managers are required to clarify any questions regarding the Tournament Rules with the Tournament Director(s) before their team's first game commences. 3.2 No photographic, video or other recording of any nature shall be accepted or considered as evidence in determining any Tournament decision. 3.3 Tournament referees will be appointed and supplied by the Tournament Organisers. 3.4 All games shall commence at the scheduled time unless otherwise determined by the Tournament Director(s). 3.5 If a team fails to arrive for a scheduled game, the Tournament programme will continue as published. There will be no reshuffling of the programme. 4. Discipline & Misconduct 4.1 Coaches & Managers 4.1.1 Any Coach or Manager issued with a RED Card shall serve a mandatory minimum suspension of one (1) match. 4.1.2 Where deemed necessary, a disciplinary hearing may be held, and further sanctions may be imposed. 4.1.3 Any suspension shall apply to the next game(s) in which the relevant team participates. 4.2 Player Misconduct 4.2.1 A player issued with a RED Card for MISCONDUCT shall be excluded from the remainder of that game. 4.2.2 Where deemed necessary, a disciplinary hearing may be held and further sanctions may be imposed. 4.2.3 For purposes of these rules, misconduct includes, but is not limited to: Unacceptable or abusive language. Equipment abuse. Disobedience of referee instructions. Disrespect towards a referee, official, individual, team or player. Dissent. 4.3 Violence 4.3.1 A player issued with a RED Card for VIOLENCE (exclusion with substitution) shall: Be excluded from the remainder of that game; and Receive a minimum suspension of one (1) match.

4. Discipline & Misconduct - Continued 4.3.2 Where deemed necessary, a disciplinary hearing may be held, and further sanctions may be imposed. 4.4 Extreme Violence 4.4.1 A player issued with a RED Card for EXTREME VIOLENCE (previously referred to as brutality/exclusion without substitution) shall: Be excluded from the remainder of that game; and Receive a minimum suspension of two (2) matches. 4.4.2 Where deemed necessary, a disciplinary hearing may be held, and further sanctions may be imposed. 4.4.3 Where a player is excluded for Extreme Violence: A penalty foul shall be awarded against the offending team. The offending team shall play man-down for the full duration of half a quarter of playing time. 4.4.4 All suspensions shall apply to the next game(s) in which the relevant team participates. 5. Conduct of Teams, Spectators & Supporters 5.1 No foul, abusive, or aggressive language from players, coaches, managers, parents, spectators, or supporters will be tolerated. 5.2 This rule applies even where such language is directed towards members of the person's own team. 5.3 The Tournament Organisers reserve the Right of Admission to the Tournament premises. 5.4 Any unruly visitor, spectator, supporter or parent may be removed from the Tournament premises and/or banned from further attendance. 5.5 Visitors, supporters, spectators and parents may NOT approach or address the Tournament Director(s) or Match Referees regarding objections, complaints or decisions. 5.6 Official objections will only be considered from an official Team Manager or Coach and must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Director(s).

6. Match Administration 6.1 Teams wearing WHITE Match Caps will commence the game on the RIGHT side of the Officials' Table. 6.2 The final result recorded on the official Match Score Sheet shall be used for determining Team Points and Tournament progression. 6.3 Team Managers are responsible for ensuring that the Score Keeper(s) have correctly recorded the final score immediately following the completion of each match. 7. Round-Robin Match Format 7.1 Playing Format Seven (7) players will be in the water at any one time: Six (6) field players. One (1) goalkeeper. A Size 5 Official Water Polo Ball will be used. Round-Robin Pool Games will consist of four (4) quarters of six (6) minutes running time — 4 × 6. There will be: One (1) minute between quarters. Two (2) minutes at half-time. Teams will change ends at half-time. 7.2 Time-Outs No time-outs will be permitted during the Round-Robin Group Stage. One (1) time-out per team will be permitted during the Quarter-Final qualifiers. Two (2) time-outs per team will be permitted during: Quarter-Finals. Semi-Finals. Medal Games (1st/2nd and 3rd/4th place). Time-outs may be taken at any time during the applicable match.

8. Round-Robin Points System Points will be awarded as follows: 3 points — Win in regular time. 2 points — Win by penalty shoot-out. 1 point — Loss by penalty shoot-out. 0 points — Loss in regular time. 8.1 Draws in Round-Robin Matches If a Round-Robin Group match ends in a draw after regular time, the match will proceed directly to a penalty shoot-out. Round-Robin penalty shoot-outs will be conducted on a straight sudden-death basis. The first team to miss after the applicable sequence will lose. 8.2 Group Positions & Tie-Breaks Final Round-Robin Group positions will be determined in accordance with the applicable World Aquatics Scoring and Tie-Break Rules, specifically the provisions relating to Tie-Break Rules for Group Phases or Round-Robin Tournaments. Where teams are tied on points, the relevant results will be considered in isolation and determined in accordance with the applicable World Aquatics Tie-Break Rules. The Tournament Director(s) shall provide the final direction and interpretation where required. 9. Trophy Section 9.1 Match Format Trophy Section matches will consist of: Four (4) quarters of six (6) minutes — 4 × 6. Stop-start playing time. One (1) minute between quarters. Two (2) minutes at half-time. One (1) minute per time-out taken, where applicable. Teams will change ends at half-time. 9.2 Time-Outs Teams will be permitted two (2) time-outs per Trophy Section match.

10. Plate Section 10.1 Match Format Plate Section matches will consist of: Two (2) halves of eight (8) minutes — 2 × 8. Running time. Two (2) minutes at half-time. Reams will change ends at half-time. 11. Progression & Final Position Matches 11.1 All progression and final-position matches will be decided by an immediate penalty shoot-out if the match is tied after full time. 11.2 This includes applicable: Quarter-Finals. Semi-Finals. 1st/2nd Place Final. 3rd/4th Place Match. Other final-position matches. 11.3 There will be three (3) designated shooters from each team for all penalty shoot-outs. 11.4 No additional extra time will be played in any match during the Tournament. 12. Penalty Shoot-Out Procedure 12.1 All penalty shoot-outs will take place from the same end of the pool. 12.2 The Tournament Organisers will select the end that provides the most favourable conditions for the goalkeepers, taking into consideration factors such as: Sunshine. Wind. Water currents. Other relevant environmental conditions. 12.3 Both teams will use the same Match Ball for the penalty shoot-out. 12.4 This requirement will apply even where the applicable FINA Bye-Law BL 9.6.3 — Tie Breaking provisions have been applied.

13. Final Authority 13.1 The Tournament Director(s) shall have the final authority on the interpretation and application of these Tournament Rules. 13.2 Any decision made by the Tournament Director(s) in relation to the Tournament, including matters not expressly covered by these rules, shall be FINAL and binding. 13.3 Teams, players, coaches, managers, officials, parents, spectators and supporters participating in or attending the Ian Melliar Cup 2026 are deemed to accept and abide by these Tournament Rules. 14. POPIA Compliance 1Per the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA), Wynberg Boys' High School ensures that all participants' personal information is managed in confidence. POPIA requires us to inform you what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it will be stored and retained: The WBHS Media team will live stream all the matches at the event via the Supersport Schools website/app. Photographers will capture all teams, spectator, and action photos for use on our school and associate event websites and social media platforms. An online programme with the names of all players, managers & coaches, referees, and officials will be published and shared. This media will be retained indefinitely by nature of being released into the public domain. Please note: Any information which a data subject (e.g., a player, coach, spectator, etc.) makes public through advertising, publishing on social media or through any other public communication medium or event is not protected in terms of this Privacy Notice or the school’s Privacy Policy. There is no expectation of privacy in the open spaces of the school’s property and any venue open to the public, or at any event on the school’s property in an open space or venue open to the public.
