EARTH AND ALL STARS

+ Call to Confession
+ Prayer of Confession
Lord, you know who we are. You know everything we have done. We thirst for things that will never satisfy us. We commit ourselves to things that will never last. We worship things that will never bring salvation. Still, you offer us the gift of living water. Still, you offer us the gift of eternal life. Forgive us, O Lord, and give us this living water, so that we may never thirst again. Amen.

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

How Can I Keep from Singing?
Setting: Mark Schweizer (1956-2019) My life flows on in endless song above earth's lamentation. I hear the real , though far off hymn that hails a new creation. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I'm clinging. It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing? When tyrants tremble , sick with fear and hear their death knells ringing; When friends rejoice both far and near , how can I keep from singing? In prison cell and dungeon vile our thoughts to them are winging. When friends by shame are undefiled , How can I keep from singing? What though the tempest 'round me roars , I know the truth , it liveth. What though the darkness 'round me close , Songs in the night it giveth. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I'm clinging. Since love is lord of heav'n and earth , how can I keep from singing?
Sermon | “Forgetfulness” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan
Time for Reflection
+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Anthem | Chancel Choir
We Are
Ysaÿe M. Barnwell (b. 1946)
For each child that’s born , a morning star rises and sings to the universe who we are. We are our grandmothers' prayers, and we are our grandfathers’ dreamings, we are the breath of our ancestors , we are the spirit of God. We are mothers of courage and fathers of time , we are daughters of dust and the sons of great visions , we ’ re sisters of mercy and brothers of love , we are lovers of life and the builders of nations , we ’ re seekers of truth and keepers of faith , we are makers of peace and the wisdom of ages.
SPECIAL NOTE | This anthem was kindly gifted to the Chancel Choir by the extended family of Claire Richardson in honor of her 50th year of singing at Wayne Presbyterian Church.
