Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

Prelude | John Grecia, organ Cantilena Josef Rheinberger (1839-1901)

+ Call to Worship

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness. Come into God’s presence with singing! For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting; and whose faithfulness endures to all generations.

+ Hymn 14:

For the Beauty of the Earth

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Eternal God, our judge and redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from our neighbors, and refused to bear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed.

In your great mercy forgive our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will and obey your commandments; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

May the God of mercy, who forgives all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise GLORIA PATRI (Greatorex)

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

Lift Up Your Voice

Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)

Lift up your voice , in God rejoice; all nations , raise your singing. Favor divine on us now shine; with grace our hearts are springing. God’s promise sure will true endure; the Word will fail us never. With joy we are crowned; let hearts resound , singing praise in all endeavors: Hallelujah forever.

Sermon | “Doing the Right Thing” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Anthem | Summer Chancel Choir

How Can I Keep from Singing?

Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

Arrangement: Jeffrey Honoré (b. 1956)

My life flows on in endless song above earth's lamentation. I hear the real , though far off hymn that hails a new creation. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I'm clinging. Since Love is Lord of heaven and earth , how can I keep from singing? Through all the tumult and the strife , I hear that music ringing. It sounds an echo in my soul; how can I keep from singing? The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart , a fountain ever springing. All things are mine since I am his; how can I keep from singing?
