Sunday, January 2026 Third Sunday of Epiphany

+ Please stand as you are able.

Prelude

+ Call to Worship

From God comes my salvation.

For God alone my soul waits in silence. God alone is my rock and my salvation. God is my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

Praise Ye the Lord , the Almighty

+ Hymn 35: LOBE

DEN HERREN

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Forgiving God, we repent of all the ways we turn from you. You call, but we do not listen; you show us your path but we prefer our own way. Forgive us, heal us, and lead us back to you, that we might show mercy to others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Who is in a position to condemn?

Only Jesus Christ. And Jesus died for us, rose for us, reigns in power for us, and prays for us.

Hear the Good News, in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

Musical Offering

Scripture Reading | Revelation 2:18-29

Anthem | Quartet

A Prayer for Peace David Lord (b. 1944) Jesu! For thy mercy endless , save thy people and send us peace. Jesu! For thy woundés five , save from shedding mortal blood; cease all great trouble of malice and strife , and of our neighbours send us tidings good. Blessed , blessed Jesu! - Anon. (c. 1500)

Sermon | “Hanging On” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | A selection from A Brief Statement of Faith

We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still.

All Things New Elaine Hagenberg (b. 1979)

Light after darkness , gain after loss , Strength after weakness , crown after cross; Sweet after bitter , hope after fears , Home after wandering, praise after tears. Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end , He is making all things new. Springs of living water shall wash away each tear; He is making all things new. Sight after mystery, sun after rain , Joy after sorrow , peace after pain; Near after distant , gleam after gloom, Love after wandering, life after tomb. - Adapted from a poem by Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879) and Revelation 21:5-6.

WELCOME KYLE PUTNAM, DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES!

We are thrilled to share that Kyle Putnam has joined our church staff as our new Director of Youth Ministries! Kyle brings a genuine passion for walking alongside young people as they grow in faith, ask big questions, and discover how God is at work in their lives. Kyle is originally from a small town in the mountains of Washington state. He enjoys being outdoors, board games, basketball, and spending time with friends. Kyle's office is located on the second floor, directly at the top of the stairs, and he encourages anyone who wants to chat to stop by and say hello!

Please join us in giving Kyle a warm welcome to our church family. We are confident he will be a blessing to our youth, congregation, and staff, and look forward with excitement to all that lies ahead for our Youth Ministry under his leadership.
