Prelude | John Grecia, organ

Meditation Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911)

+ Call to Worship

From God comes my salvation. For God alone my soul awaits in silence. God alone is my rock and salvation. God is my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

+ Hymn 167: AUS DER TIEFE RUFE ICH Forty Days and Forty Nights

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

O Lord our God, you call us to work for a world where all will be fed and have dignity, but we find ourselves distracted by our own desires. You call us to seek justice and peace, but we are satisfied with injustice and discord. You call us to bring liberty to the oppressed, but we do not insist on freedom for all. Forgive us, O Lord. Turn us to your will by the power of your Spirit, so that all may know your justice and peace; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Do not fear, says the Lord, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. God is doing a new thing; now it springs forth! By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

Hide Not Thou Thy Face from Us

Richard Farrant (c. 1530-1580)

Hide not thou thy face from us , O Lord , and cast not off thy servant in thy displeasure; for we confess our sins unto thee and hide not our unrighteousness. For thy mercy ' s sake , deliver us from all our sins.

Sermon | “Reverse Thinking” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

Charles H. H. Parry (1848-1918)

Dear Lord and Father of mankind , Forgive our foolish ways! Reclothe us in our rightful mind , In purer lives Thy service find , In deeper reverence , praise. In simple trust like -->

theirs who heard Beside the Syrian sea The gracious calling of the Lord , Let us , like them , without a word Rise up and follow Thee. Drop Thy still dews of quietness, Till all our strivings cease; Take from our souls the strain and stress , And let our ordered lives confess The beauty of Thy peace. Breathe through the heats of our desire Thy coolness and Thy balm; Let sense be dumb , let flesh retire; Speak through the earthquake, wind , and fire , O still , small voice of calm. - John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)
