2nd Sunday of Easter

+ Please stand as you are able.

Prelude | John Grecia, organ

Behold , A Rose Is Blooming Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)

+ Call to Worship

O give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever.

+ Hymn 245:

LLANFAIR Christ the Lord Is Risen Today!

+ Prayer of Confession

+ Call to Confession Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear bound by the ways that lead to death. We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn; we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace ’ we despise the weak, and abuse the earth you made.

Forgive us God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. May the God of mercy who forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Hoy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

+

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

This Joyful Eastertide

17th Century Dutch Melody Setting: Charles Wood (1866-1926)

This joyful Eastertide , away with sin and sorrow! My Love , the Crucified , hath sprung to life this morrow: had Christ , that once was slain , ne ’ er burst his three-day prison, our faith had been in vain - but now is Christ arisen! My flesh in hope shall rest , and for a season slumber: till trump from east to west shall wake the dead in number. Death’s flood hath lost its chill , since Jesus crossed the river: Lover of souls , from ill my passing soul deliver. - George Ratcliffe Woodward (1848–1934)

Sermon | “Holding On, Looking Forward” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Sacrament of Baptism | 9:30AM Service | Rev. Katy Shevel Emmet Rhodes Van Ostenbridge, child of Mitchell and Lauren Van Ostenbridge
