American Legion Family to Honor Veterans by placing flags on graves on Memorial Day By Jack Weller The American Legion Family—led by Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 82—invites the community to take part in a Memorial Day tradition: placing American flags on veterans’ graves at Sunset Cemetery and Webb Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, May 23. Volunteers should arrive by 9:15 a.m. at either cemetery. SAL Squadron 82 began coordinating the “Flags for Veterans” project seven years ago. Today, more than 1,200 veterans buried in the two cemeteries will receive a flag at their gravesite—an enduring symbol that their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to freedom will not be forgotten. The event depends on volunteers from across Cleveland County who give their time to honor America’s heroes. Groups include American Legion Family members, local Boy Scout troops, the Boys & Girls Club of

unteers are the heart of the project—proof that respect for veterans and love of country still unite the community. Families are especially encouraged to join, helping younger generations understand the true meaning of Memorial Day and the sacrifices behind the freedoms Americans enjoy. When volunteers arrive, they will be organized into teams and assigned to cemetery sections.
