Mountain Holiday’s roof collapsed By Loretta Cozart On Tuesday, May 2, Mountain Holiday owner Beth White opened the door to her shop at 110 W. Mountain Street, only to discover that the store’s floor was flooded. Upon further investigation, she found that the roof had collapsed. “When I realized what happened, I just sat on the bench outside and cried,” she said. Luckily, the portion of the roof that collapsed was behind Beth’s office space at the back of the store. The water from weekend rains caused the roof to collapse, pushing it through the backdoor and flooding the store’s floor from back to front. Beth posted photos online. To her surprise, Wednesday morning people just showed up to help her move her things to storage. “I am so grateful,” Beth said. “Dave is out of town on business, and I didn’t know how I was going to move everything.” Business people and friends came with carts, trailers, and extra hands to move her inventory and store fixtures. Everything that wasn’t damaged was moved, and by Wednesday afternoon the shop was all but empty. “What happened is terrible, but the support of friends got me through the toughest part. I am amazed by the support and generosity of the merchants around me. We are a family down here on Mountain Street and everything they did just warmed my heart. I’ll never forget it,” Beth added. Bobby and Sharon Horne own the building, and they had workers in there immediately. By Friday, the roof had been replaced and dryers took care of the remaining moisture. Workers See MOUNTAIN, Page 4A
