Stein, Moore recap 2025 achievements By Allyson Parker With the holiday season concluding, North Carolina politicians are shifting their focus to the New Year by reviewing their work in 2025. North Carolina Governor Josh Stein (D) and U.S. Rep. Tim Moore (RN.C.) both issued year-end reviews highlighting their individual successes in office. Governor Stein’s Year in Review Governor Stein appeared on the PBS North Carolina program State Lines last week to outline his achievements during his first year as governor. The interview focused on three main areas: the economy, Hurricane Helene recovery, and the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV). Regarding the economy, Stein highlighted positive growth, stating, “We had the best year of job announcements in the history of North Carolina: 34,000 jobs, $23 billion of capital invested.” He noted that North Carolina was named the number one state for business in the country this past year. While touting these successes, Stein ac-
knowledged the struggles residents face regarding the cost of living and rent but expressed hope that ongoing efforts would alleviate these burdens. More than a year after impact, the state is still recovering from Hurricane Helene. This was the second major topic of Stein’s interview, where he expressed optimism about ongoing work related to housing and water infrastructure. “We were the first state to get our environmental grants to local governments and water systems to do resilience work... we just did announce that last week $280 million, faster than any other state that was impacted by Helene,” Stein said. Stein concluded the interview by addressing the NCDMV's backlog. He noted that 149 new examiners recently graduated, a move expected to ease the current workload on staff. He also highlighted the efficiency of online renewals. Representative Moore’s Year in Review U.S. Rep. Tim Moore— representing North Carolina's 14th Congressional District, which includes
Gastonia, Kings Mountain, and Shelby—shared his annual review via a weekly newsletter to constituents. Moore’s newsletter provided a recap of the year, focusing on improving accessibility and navigating bureaucracy for citizens. “We've also resolved more than 620 individual casework issues, stepping in when folks hit a wall with federal bureaucracy and needed help,” Moore stated regarding his work on bureaucratic hurdles. He also mentioned efforts to cut red tape in federal agencies, which he asserts will save Americans money. Moore concluded with an announcement regarding his availability to constituents for comments and questions writing: “This year, I opened six offices to serve the people of North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District — one in Washington, D.C., and five across the district in Morganton, Shelby, Gastonia, Cornelius, and Spindale. Each office is open during set hours throughout the week, and you can always call (980) 460-8110 to get connected.”
