KM residents enjoy annual Christmas Parade despite cold By Allyson Parker The streets of downtown Kings Mountain felt as though the north wind had blown in on December 6, but that did not stop residents from lining the streets to enjoy the annual Christmas parade, which began at 3 p.m. Spectators came dressed in warm coats, hats, and gloves to partake in this year’s festivities. The parade, which began downtown on Deal Street, was an event that will be memorable for many. Several churches and organizations handed out prepared bags of candy to children — and even some adults — as an added treat while they awaited their favorite characters marching by. Appearances included Sheriff Woody, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and multiple sightings of the Grinch, among others. The procession also included The Loch Norman Pride Band, the ROTC, the Kings Mountain High School Marching Band, firefighters, and KM policemen with German Shepherds by their side. Representatives from Davidson County and Cleveland County, including Senator Ted Alexander, were also present. In addition, a variety of contractors and downtown businesses participated, including the Albemarle Company. Although the children

were clearly mesmerized by the entire show, it goes without saying that they were eagerly anticipating the star of the parade, Santa - and he did not dissapoint.
