to York Open Studios™ 2026. This year we have 150 artists showing their work in more than 100 venues. We are welcoming back regular exhibitors, some who have not participated in York Open Studios for several years, and over 25 new participants.
Over two weekends we invite you to meet some of York’s most talented artists, in their home studios or shared studio spaces. Chat to them in person about their processes and influences and perhaps choose a unique piece of art to take home. At every venue you will find the makers themselves ready to welcome you and show you around.

All our artists either live or have a permanent studio within 10 miles of the centre of the city. We’re delighted to again be able to treat our visitors to a huge range of media and styles.
Selection was by an independent panel who assessed applications based on the images and artist statements submitted. For our 2026 event our selectors were Kate Brindley (arts and museums consultant), Simon Gudgeon (sculptor), Wendy Lawrence (ceramicist), Mari Thomas (Jeweller), and Alex Woodall (consultant), and we would like to express our appreciation for their contribution.
We are pleased to feature two final year students from York St John University. The ‘student showcase’ is often a student’s first experience of sharing their work with the public and they are looking forward to meeting you.
York Open Studios™ is a self-funded non-profit organisation run by artists and volunteers, and we are grateful to our visitors for the support and encouragement which enables the annual event to continue.
When you are visiting studios, look out for our bright yellow signage and balloons marking the venues. (Please note only the artists and venues listed in this directory are part of the event).
Some of our artists are planning to give demonstrations during the event. To see which artists are doing this, look for the ‘DEMO’ symbol in the artist listing, and head to our website for further information.

IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST LIVING OR WORKING WITHIN 10 MILES OF YORK WHO WOULD LIKE TO TAKE PART IN 2027, LOOK OUT FOR OUR CALL FOR ARTISTS IN THE SUMMER. APPLICATIONS OPEN IN JUNE AND SELECTION TAKES PLACE IN AUGUST.
We recommend using this guide and our website to help plan your weekends. Each artist has a sequential venue number which can be found in the index. Where several artists are at the same location, you will find their entries follow each other in the directory. Each artist’s listing also gives a map reference for the venue which will help you identify the location on the fold-out map at the back of this directory.

On our website, the online map shows you which studios are near you while you’re out and about. You will also find more information about each artist, including biographies, additional images, directions to the studios, and accessibility information.
IMPORTANT: UNFORTUNATELY FROM TIME TO TIME, LIFE INTERVENES, AND AN ARTIST IS UNABLE TO SHOW AT THEIR VENUE AS PLANNED AT THE TIME THIS DIRECTORY GOES TO PRINT. BEFORE YOU SET OUT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR ANY LAST-MINUTE CHANGES.
One of the joys of York Open Studios is the range of spaces our artists show their work in - from garden sheds and front rooms to professional studio spaces. However, we recognise that this can add challenges for visitors with different accessibility requirements. As so many of the venues are homes rather than public places, and as individual access needs vary, capturing the appropriate information and ensuring it is accurate is quite tricky.
Our artists have been asked to provide information regarding the accessibility of their venues, and while there isn’t space to include this in the printed directory, it is displayed on the artists’ pages on our website. This information is limited, but we hope it’s helpful. Each entry in the directory and on the website shows the artist’s contact details, so if you have any questions about the accessibility of a venue, do contact the artist directly to check.
You can find information on public toilets in York on york.gov.uk/PublicToilets and a map of Changing Places facilities on changing-places.org/find.
Some artists are offering an additional chance to see their work at a public preview in their studios on Friday 17 April, 6pm-9pm. Please check their individual listings to see who is taking part in this.
