INNOVATION
Through the decades, Taylor has developed a history of innovation, bringing numerous products to market that have helped further shape the fenestration industry. The products introduced were Adjustable Hinge steel doors, Stainable Steel doors, commercial products, 8-foot steel doors, smooth and woodgrain fiberglass doors, and a 90-minute fire-rated steel frame.
TRANSITION
In December 2012, Taylor was acquired by Wausau Supply Co., an industry-leading building materials distributor and manufacturer based in central Wisconsin.
The 2012 transition led to a new focus on the multi-family and light commercial markets. Taylor has grown dramatically throughout the past several years and now has a diverse customer base that focuses on residential and commercial projects throughout the United States. To support the needs of this diverse customer base, Taylor added state-of-the-art, automated equipment to its production facility.

HOT-DIPPED GALVANIZED STEEL
Taylor exclusively utilizes American-made, hot-dipped galvanized steel with a G40 coating in manufacturing steel entry doors. Galvanized steel doors with a G40 coating are highly effective at handling the challenges of harsh environments, especially coastal conditions. This specific coating involves applying 0.40 oz/sq ft. of zinc, creating a protective layer that prevents corrosion in demanding environments and enhances rust resistance.
PRIMED SURFACE
Our smooth steel doors feature a durable baked-on white polyester primer on the exterior and an epoxy coating on the interior. In contrast, the Norwood textured steel door comes with a distinctive beige primer tailored for stain. Whether smooth or textured, they present customization and aesthetic flexibility to meet diverse design preferences.
FULL STEEL-EDGE PERIMETER
Taylor’s steel-edge doors boast a full steel-edge perimeter, enhancing strength and security. Achieving the highest Grade 40 rating in rigorous forced entry tests—withstanding more than seven hits from a 100-pound test weight—these doors offer industry-leading security. Conforming to ASTM F476 standards, they excel in restraining, delaying, and frustrating break-in attempts, providing peace of mind and top-tier protection.
The heavy gauge hinge reinforcement ensures long-term performance and enhanced security.
Doors are constructed with two steel sheets, available in different gauge thicknesses, and feature hot-dip galvanized steel for added durability and corrosion resistance.
Door sweep weatherstrip enhances weather resistance, improves energy efficiency, and deters the entry of insects and debris.
The injected inner core of polyurethane foam enhances insulation, acting as a bonding agent to lock all internal components in place for enhanced durability.
The composite lock block provides secure mounting of door hardware and enhanced structural integrity.

The polyurethane foam core plays a versatile role that goes beyond insulation in the creation of our doors. With improved soundproofing and insulation capabilities, it forms a reliable barrier against external noise and temperature fluctuations. Additionally, this foam serves as a robust bonding agent, firmly securing internal components. This careful integration ensures superior durability, enhancing the overall structural integrity of our doors.

THERMAL BREAK
Our steel entry doors incorporate a vital thermal break to enhance energy efficiency and performance. This integral feature effectively prevents cold conduction from the outside to the inside of your home, minimizing heat transfer between the inner and outer sections and maintaining consistent indoor temperatures. The inclusion of the thermal break not only enhances overall insulation performance but also emphasizes our dedication to providing products that exceed contemporary benchmarks for sustainability and thermal efficiency.
INVERTED BOTTOM CHANNEL*
Designed for versatility, our inverted bottom channels accommodate a broad range of door hardware. Whether you’re installing automatic door bottoms or opting for traditional U-shaped door sweeps, our channel design ensures seamless compatibility. This flexibility makes it easy to achieve reliable threshold sealing while streamlining installation.

HINGE REINFORCEMENTS

Our offering includes: 20-gauge (surface mounted fixed hinge prep), 11-gauge (adjustable hinge prep) and 7-gauge (commercial mortise prep) hinge reinforcement plates.
FIXED HINGE PREP
The fixed hinge prep is standard on Taylor doors, featuring a 4" surface mount hinge prep with a sturdy fixed hinge reinforcement plate. This straightforward design ensures ease of installation and long-term performance.
MORTISE HINGE PREP
The 4.5" mortise commercial hinge prep is designed for projects requiring a recessed hinge pocket. Exclusive to the WestGuard door series, this prep is tailored for hollow metal frames and resolves the need for under-sizing doors. Its unhanded design provides flexibility, accommodating both left-handed and right-handed installations. Additionally, filler plates come standard with each door.
ADJUSTABLE HINGE PREP
Taylor’s Adjustable Hinge Plate System is a versatile solution for your door needs, featuring a 4" surface mount hinge prep with an accompanying adjustable hinge backer plate. This unique hinge system allows for easy adjustments up/down and in/out without removing the door from the frame, all achieved effortlessly with a simple screwdriver.

Taylor’s steel-edge doors conform to the highest security classification, Grade 40, through ASTM F476 - Security of Swinging Door Assemblies. The test measures a door assembly’s ability to restrain, delay, and frustrate the commission of break-in crimes. It specifies a grade for the door assembly, with Grade 40 representing the highest grade. For best protection from forced entry, specify an entry door with a Grade 40 rating.
STC & OITC RATINGS
The Sound Transmission Class (STC) and Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class (OITC) are tested and classified by Intertek’s Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI), based on the ASTM E90 test standard for Sound Transmission Loss.
The results are based on operable test units; inoperable results are available upon request. Detailed reports are available upon request.
FLORIDA BUILDING CODE ( FBC ) APPROVALS
Taylor offers steel doors tested for code compliance in Florida’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ) and non-HVHZ regions. Detailed approval information can be found on Taylor’s website and the Florida Building Code (FBC) website under Product Approval.

Taylor’s steel-edge doors have a polyurethane foam core that provides nearly twice the insulating properties of an insulated hollow metal door.
This foam is injected into the steel shell and fills the entire cavity. The foam is blown (expanded) with an eco-friendly blowing agent that is CFC and HCFC-free.

FIRE RATINGS
When a steel door is rated for fire resistance, it means that it has been tested and certified to withstand fire and smoke for a specific duration, typically measured in minutes. The door’s ability to maintain its integrity (structural stability) and limit the transfer of heat and smoke from one side to the other is evaluated during these tests.
Neutral pressure and positive pressure are terms used to describe the pressure conditions on either side of a fire-rated steel door during fire testing. Both conditions help assess the door’s performance and its ability to contain fire and smoke effectively in different fire scenarios.
NEUTRAL PRESSURE
Refers to a scenario where the pressure on one side of a door is lower than the pressure on the other side. This condition can occur in real-life fire situations, where factors such as building ventilation systems or open windows create a pressure imbalance that draws air and smoke into the area affected by the fire.
POSITIVE PRESSURE
Simulates a fire scenario where the pressure on the fire-exposed side of a door is greater than the pressure on the surrounding areas. This condition is representative of real-life fires, where heat and gases produced by combustion create higher pressure on the fire side, potentially leading to the door being pushed open by the pressure difference.
FIRE RATED DOORS
Steel doors with a steel edge are tested to withstand a minimum of 90 minutes of fire exposure at temperatures reaching more than 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. Fire rated doors are tested and classified by Intertek’s Warnock Hersey.
