Pastoral Lead for Year 7
My name is Miss Corless and I am the Pastoral Lead for Year 7.
Starting secondary school is an exciting time and this year will bring new friendships and new experiences. My role is to support you settle into this new environment, build friendships, and grow in confidence. I can’t wait to get to know each of you and to see all the amazing things you’ll do!
Induction Day
Friday 4 September th

You will need to be in full school uniform, bring pencil case and notebook You do not need to bring a device. You will need to bring lunch.
15:00-16:30 Optional football session
Our optional football session is open for all pupils. It is really good for those who might like to play in the school team.
If you would like to take part, scan the QR code to confirm your place. Meet on the bottom field in your PE kit. Use changing rooms beneath the Tennet Centre

Form Leadership
You will be with your form until the end of year 11. We take pride in our form, supporting each other throughout our school life.
As part of a form group, you will take part in a range of competitions and events, such as form challenges, charity fundraisers and sports day. There will always be something in which you can get involved.
To support with running these events, every form will elect someone for each of the following roles:

Reading Representative
In September, your form tutor will help run form leadership elections.
Uniform Expectations
We take pride in our uniform at Watford Girls, as it shows that we all belong to our community.

Here is a short summary:
Navy blazer with the school badge on the breast pocket
Gold fitted open-neck blouse
Navy V-neck jumper with the school crest
Navy pleated skirt with school crest or straight-legged trousers
Black or navy leather or leather-look shoes with no logos
No jewellery besides a single pair of studs in the earlobes

The School Day
A normal day at Watford Girls may look quite different to a day at your primary school. Each lesson takes place in a different classroom, so you need to be organised and plan ahead.
It might seem daunting to remember where each classroom is, or what lesson you have next, but the school is full of staff and students who are happy to help you!
As our site is so large, we have a 5 minute changeover between consecutive lessons.
Soon you will be in a routine and the school day will be second nature to you.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the timings are:

What If...
I am worried or upset?
Speak to your form tutor, Miss Corless or Miss Shanahan. You can find them in their department offices.
I feel unwell?
Tell your teacher straight away, they will assess whether it is necessary to go to the medical room. If it is recess or lunch, you can go straight to the medical room.
I have lost something?
Check lost property in Hyde House, next to the Food Factory or the medical room.
I am late to School?
If you arrive before 08:45, go to your form room and explain why you are late. If you arrive after 08:45, you must sign in at reception and go straight to your lesson.
I get lost and can’t find my classmates or classroom?
Tell the nearest adult you are lost or go to the main reception if you can’t find an adult.
What If...
I am carrying too many items?
Use your locker to store your mobile phone, books, PE kit and electronic device. Only carry the necessities for the lessons that day.
I don’t know the correct time?
Wear a wrist watch (but not a smart watch), to know when to get to lessons.
I have forgotten something?
Pack your bag the evening before to avoid this. If it happens, tell your teacher straight away.
My lanyard breaks or I lose it?
A new one can be purchased on ParentPay.
I want to make new friends?
You will have lots of opportunity to make friends in your new form and year group. We recommend that every pupil joins at least 3 clubs.
