THE 1704 SOCIETY
I am pleased to introduce The 1704 Society to you The Society is a club exclusively for alumnae who want to support their school through regular monthly, quarterly, or annual donations.
During my tenure as Headmistress, I spearheaded the creation of the school’s charity, the Women of Vision Trust, to secure long-term financial security via voluntary donations. I am delighted to see the continuation of the school’s philanthropic traditions through The 1704 Society and am proud to be its Founding Patron.
It was my immense privilege to serve this unique school, and many of you, for 29 years. I witnessed just how important an education at Watford Grammar School for Girls was in shaping the lives of the students, encouraging them to become ambitious and creative adults and preparing them for the future.
If you are a proud Watford Girl who wants to be a part of enabling the school to continue to provide an excellent education to future generations of students from modern learning spaces, I ask you to join me as a member of The 1704 Society.
Why 1704?
The Watford Free School (latterly Watford Grammar School for Girls) was founded by Dame Elizabeth Fuller in 1704 to ensure all children, regardless of background, were given the chance of an education. The 1704 Society has been created to celebrate the school’s heritage and charitable foundations as well as continuing the tradition of achievement that inspired your success for future generations.
Why are regular gifts important?
Regular gifts are invaluable to the school As a state-funded school, regular donations enable long-term planning and financial security which allows consistent access to resources for every student of every generation.
Regular gifts can also be gift-aided, adding an extra 25% to your donation and turning every pound into £1.25 at no extra cost to you.
There is a suggested monthly donation of £17.04. This equates to just over 50 pence a day. Alternatively, a quarterly donation of £170.04 or an annual donation of £1,700.04 is also welcomed.
However, a gift of any size is greatly appreciated and makes a real difference to the future of the school.

What will The 1704 Society fund?
It is an exciting time at the school as we have recently received approval for a brand-new eight-classroom teaching block which is scheduled to begin construction in March 2026. . Support from the 1704 Society could help bring this space to life as well as supporting other important projects around the school.
