NEW WGGS TEACHING BLOCK
Watford Grammar School for Girls Grant received for a brand new 8 classroom teaching block
Currently, the historic building of Lady’s Close serves as the home of our English department. While it holds significant historical value for the school, the increase in student numbers since 2018 means that most of its rooms no longer meet the requirements the school needs for teaching As a result, English classes are now held in classrooms originally designated for other subjects
Make your voice count by casting your vote for the name of the new building. In line with tradition, the new teaching block will honour a former Headmistress, Miss Grace Fergie (1913-1938) She was the last Head to reside at Lady's Close and played a pivotal role in expanding the school from 300 to 700 students Additionally, she improved the skills and qualifications of the teaching staff.
The new teaching block will transform our school by providing a state-ofthe-art building with sustainability at its heart. This development will ease pressure on the timetable, eliminate the need for makeshift classrooms, and create an inspiring environment where students can thrive By delivering modern, purpose-built spaces, we ensure that our outstanding school continues to offer the exceptional learning experience every student needs.
The Department for Education grant will fund the construction of the new building, supported by a generous contribution from the Women of Vision Trust. However, these funds do not cover the essential internal fixtures and fittings needed to make the space functional Without the support of the entire WGGS community, this building will remain empty unable to provide the high-quality teaching environment our students deserve Your contribution will help transform this vision into reality.
