SUFFOLK LOCAL HISTORY COUNCIL www.slhc.org.uk
Founded in 1953, the Suffolk Local History Council (SLHC) is a registered educational charity, financed by its members, that exists to promote the study of local history and to encourage historical research in the county of Suffolk. SLHC also supports a network of local history recorders in towns and villages throughout the county. Membership is open both to individuals and to historical societies, museums and groups. Members receive twice yearly the Suffolk Review Journal, a Newsletter and Calendar. SLHC also organises an annual conference, day meetings, and a societies day and runs the Recorders scheme. Please note that some of the information that secretaries and correspondents have kindly supplied has necessarily had to be shortened due to space restriction. If this has led to confusion or misunderstanding anywhere the Editor would appreciate comment so that the Calendar can be improved next time. Contributions for the next issue (covering the period 1 September 2016 – 31 March 2017) should be with the Calendar Editor, by Friday 22 July 2016 please, but updates can be provided at any time by email to: calendar@slhc.org.uk The Calendar is arranged in to three sections:
Society programmes Museums and Resource Centres Education The first part of each section notes the activities and programmes of societies, museums and resource centres who are members of the SLHC.
SOCIETY PROGRAMMES Spring 2016 – Autumn 2016 Visitors are welcome to the Society Meetings listed, but are strongly recommended to telephone/email the contact in advance, and this is essential for outside visits.
