On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you. It is my honor to introduce the 2024–2025 Annual Report and, more importantly, to recognize the extraordinary generosity of our donor community.
This year’s theme for philanthropy—Go Far Together—beautifully reflects the impact of your collective support. Whether you made a gift to the Waterford Fund, invested in the endowment, or supported a scholarship or specific program, you helped ensure that every student at Waterford has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
Because of you, we surpassed our Waterford Fund goal of $1.25 million by almost $250,000, providing additional resources to enrich student experiences, expand faculty development and innovation, and strengthen our commitment
A MESSAGE FROM WATERFORD BOARD CHAIR
to excellence. Your support also helped grow Waterford’s endowment from $10 million to nearly $13 million. This kind of long-term investment is vital, as a strong endowment will allow us to plan boldly, weather uncertainty, and sustain our mission for generations to come.
Thanks in part to our growing culture of philanthropy, Waterford is in a solid financial position. That stability allows us to focus on what matters most—delivering an outstanding liberal arts education that inspires lives of meaning and purpose. Our pursuit of a world-class liberal arts education will require a continued and growing financial commitment from each of us. We are so grateful to be part of a community that understands the value and importance of the Waterford Mission.
At Waterford, we believe there is no better way to help prepare young minds for the opportunities and uncertainties that lie ahead than the philosophy behind our liberal arts education. Your generosity affirms that belief, and your partnership makes it possible. Thank you for all you do to support our students, faculty, and school.
With deep gratitude,
ERIC HUEFNER,
P. ’19, ’19, ’23, ’27
Board of Trustees Chair
A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I write to thank you for your extraordinary generosity and unwavering support of Waterford School. This year has been a shining example of what is possible when a community comes together in the spirit of shared purpose and belief in a mission rooted in the enduring values of a liberal arts education.
Through your support of the Waterford Fund, especially on Giving Tuesday, through the Cox Family Matches, and at our record-breaking Gala, you have propelled our school forward in powerful ways. These contributions directly support the day-to-day experiences of every student, every teacher, and every classroom—making possible the kind of inquiry, exploration, and inspiration that are the hallmarks of a
true liberal arts education.
This year, philanthropy opened new doors—literally and figuratively.
The opening of the Haught Visual Arts Gallery and the Willes Wellness Center, along with the renovation of the Weight Training Room, signal a deepened investment in the full breadth of student growth: artistic, physical, and emotional. These spaces nurture the whole child and reflect our belief that a well-rounded education is a transformative one.
And thanks to your generosity, our endowment continues to grow, building long-term stability and ensuring Waterford’s mission endures for future generations. The establishment of the Nancy Nebeker Scholarship Fund is a testament to the kind of excellence that defines our community—opening our doors
wider to deserving students who will thrive in a liberal arts setting.
This year’s theme— Together—came to life in every corner of campus, fueled by your gifts. Whether in Socratic seminars, science labs, music rehearsals, or on the athletic fields, students engaged deeply with each other and their teachers. Your support makes these moments possible by providing the resources and flexibility our faculty need to bring the liberal arts to life with rigor and joy.
Philanthropy also plays a crucial role in achieving a cornerstone of our strategic plan: attracting and retaining exceptional teachers. By supporting competitive compensation and professional development opportunities, your giving helps us build a faculty that is
not only well-trained trained highly qualified, but deeply dedicated to the liberal arts tradition and to each individual student’s journey.
Because of you, Waterford continues to be a place where students are challenged to think deeply, live honorably, and act with purpose.
Thank you for being a vital part of our story—and our future.
With deepest appreciation,
ANDREW MENKE Waterford Head of School

ENDOWMENT HISTORY
ENDOWMENT DESIGNATIONS
Low School Technology Low School Technology Low School Technology
By supporting the Waterford Fund, you enabled Lower School Technology Specialist Jenn Johnston to transform learning from passive consumption to active creation, fostering a learning environment in which students unleash genuine wonder and excitement. Throughout their time in Lower School, Students develop persistence and determination through coding challenges, experience wonder through 3D printing their own designs, and discover the joy of collaborative problem-solving with robotics. This hands-on exploration cultivates creative thinking and intellectual curiosity essential for lives of meaning and purpose. By nurturing each child’s unique potential from first grade forward, the program inspires lifelong learners who go far together toward futures filled with possibility.
“I think what we do in the classroom helps turn our students from being consumers of technology to creators and innovators... I’m trying to nurture creative thinkers that can use the tools, because that’s what’s going to be successful in the future. When we have students that are strong in robotics in Lower School, that’s just going to translate all the way up, it’s going to open doors for them later down the line here at Waterford and beyond.”
— JENN JOHNSTON, LS TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
Middle School Outdo Middle School Outdo Middle School Outdo
Waterford’s Middle School Outdoor Program transforms students through experiential learning that builds confidence, leadership, and resilience. Thanks to your support of the Waterford Fund, this unique curriculum serves Class VII students with outdoor experiences that develop essential life skills through challenge and adventure. The program’s success lies in its integration into the academic schedule—not an extra-curicular club, but a structured class with dedicated resources, equipment, and transportation. Students learn vulnerability, peer support, and risk-taking in a safe environment, creating lasting friendships across different interests and backgrounds. This comprehensive approach ensures every Outdoor Program student receives consistent, high-quality outdoor education that impacts their entire Waterford experience.
“This program develops interpersonal skills and creates friendships that wouldn’t exist otherwise. We bring together theater kids, athletes, artists—all different types of students—and they get to see each other be vulnerable, humble, supportive through both highs and lows. That’s where real character development happens, and those connections last throughout their time at Waterford and the rest of their lives.”
— CHRIS WATKINS, OUTDOOR PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Wat f d Math Club
IMPACT STORY 3
Waterford’s Math Club develops exceptional problem-solving abilities and leadership skills through competitive mathematics. Thanks to Waterford Fund support, both Middle and Upper School students participate in national competitions, with recent achievements including second place in-state and top-10 national rankings. The program’s unique peer mentorship model allows Upper School students to coach younger participants, creating a culture of mathematical excellence that has produced more USA Math Olympiad qualifiers than any other Utah school. Students compete in prestigious competitions associated with Berkeley, Harvard, and MIT, discovering lifelong passions while developing the analytical thinking and collaborative skills essential for academic and professional success.
“Ever since I first came on campus, Waterford has supported my passion for mathematics in every way they could, especially through programs like Math Club. Your support of the Waterford Fund allows Waterford to be the transformative place it is for students like me and members of the Math Club. I know I speak for all of the leadership in the Math Club when I say we are incredibly grateful for your contribution to Waterford’s continued success in mathematics.”
— KIRAN REDDY ’25
“If you want to be really good at something, you have to learn from people who are already amazing at it. That’s why it’s so valuable to have teachers who have tons of experience, knowledge and passion—because if they have access to that professional development and learning, then they’re going to transfer that to you. It’s definitely a huge resource to provide for teachers, which ultimately benefits the students. That’s the whole purpose of the school—it’s for the students and for helping them grow.”
JOCLYN NELSON, Member of the Class of 2025
