At Take 5 auto oil change we like to fill the air in the tires and I will clean the rear glass and the wheels. I am looking forward to do the oil change.
I work there on Mondays and Wednesdays in the morning and afternoon. I love cars so this is a great job for me!
Happily in the Weeds

In the sensory garden at Avery Point, I was cutting weeds and we prepared the gardens with Ms. Jamie’s class.
We worked together where a student would give the weed to me and I put it in the weed pile. We all worked together and now the garden is ready to grow this spring!
It’s a nice place outside where I like to read books and relax.

Did someone say BINGO?
Our April BINGOS were jam packed with contestants & loaded with fun. We gave out tons of prizes & everyone had a good time.
What I enjoyed the most about is being a true game show host and I loved it very much. The crowd goes wild & each round is a different method: We did, 4 corners, Xs, Squares, Diagonal Lines, & Fill-ins.
Everyone had fun playing BINGO! & I sure enjoyed being a true game show host & Hope that I want to keep going until graduation. Until Next Time ��
Traveling Cool Beans

It is fun to make coffee at Cool Beans! We go to different schools like Quaker Hill,Great Neck and Oswegatchie to see teachers and friends at the schools! Traveling Cool Beans has been so much fun!
In Cool Beans we make more than coffee. We also served hot chocolate, tea, and flavor of the month. This year we are served 1st.Quarter at Waterford High school, 2nd Quarter at Quaker Hill , 3rd Quarter at Great Neck, and 4th Quarter at Oswegattie.
I especially like enjoyed Oswegattie because it reminded me of my summer school experience.
I take a lot of pride making coffee for some of my former teachers,it means a lot to see teachers who taught me in the past and now be able to serve them through Traveling Cool Beans.
Unified Alumni Basketball Game

Every year as alumni we play a basketball game against the current students at Waterford High School.
Our team consists of students from our transition program and a handful of basketball players from the Avery Point team. To get ready for the big game, the week before we practiced and scrimmaged with the Avery Point Basketball team. Before the game we warmed up by practicing our layups, shooting, passing, and dribbling.
Once the game starts it’s time to compete! Even though we are trying our best to win , we cheer for all the participants for all four quarters. We play hard until the very last second but at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun with our friends. We love the alumni game!
HEALTHY LIVING AND ACADEMICS BY:

We learned some things about healthy eating and how to take care of your body the healthy way like exercising and eating balanced meals.
We also found recipes on healthy food and voted on which one we can cook. We made healthy mac & cheese and some healthy strawberry smoothies. They were very good!
We also spend a lot of time learning about job interviews. We attended a workshop with BRS and did a practice mock interview. And we also practiced how you can respond in a job interview and how you dress for one. It’s important to have questions too. I hope I get a job! ��
Carelot/CPR

Our class learned how to use a CPR machine that the Avery Point Campus Activities Director had stationed in the student center.
The machine measured the depth of chest compressions, heartbeat, rhythm, and proper hand placement on the chest to help people perform CPR correctly. We also learned about the importance of CPR and first aid during emergencies.
Since I work at a daycare, it is especially important for me to know these skills because young children can choke on small objects and may need immediate help.
GRADUATE REFECTION
I had different job experiences, and I enjoyed working at Goodwill and Waterford Carelot. Those are my favorite because I love to organize inventory and I loved working with kids. I learned many different skills, such as building a resume, practicing interview skills, and using menu math.
I am going to light house, I am looking forward to it. i will miss working with people at goodwill and will miss my friends and Job Coaches.

Graduate Reflection
I have been a student for four years at the Avery Point Transition Program, and I finally graduate this Spring! I have worked many different jobs in the program to understand what I like doing and what my strengths are. My favorite jobs have been stocking at CVS, retail organizer at Goodwill, and car detailing at Mohegan Sun.
I learned life skills in budgeting, cooking, nutrition, laundry, and exercise routines. To prepare for future work I practiced interviewing, resume building, work readiness skills, and the job application process. After I graduate I go to the Lighthouse day program, where I will continue to work. I am applying for jobs in inventory stocking at groceries and retail stores.
One of my biggest accomplishments is my participation in the Youth Leadership Forum in Storrs, CT. Most importantly I have learned that working hard and being kind will take me through life. I will miss Avery Point campus and my friends from the program most, but I will stay in touch and come back to visit!
