Our Pre-K friends explored pumpkins through a hands-on Pumpkin Investigation! The children observed, touched, and described pumpkins of different shapes and sizes, building vocabulary and curiosity. Together, we dissected pumpkins to discover what was inside—counting seeds, comparing textures, and noticing how the pulp felt and smelled.
After cleaning and tasting roasted pumpkin seeds, we talked about healthy foods and practiced using descriptive words like crunchy, salty, and nutty. The class also experimented with pumpkin boats, testing if the pumpkin boats could hold bears and still float!
The children showed their creativity while decorating pumpkins collages style! Students also practiced making letters in pretend pumpkin pie cream!
Throughout the investigation, students practiced observation, prediction, creativity, and collaboration while celebrating the season of pumpkins!
Ms. Gardner's class got the chance to work with Mrs.Costa’s second graders for some Halloween-

Dine Out at The Shack Restaurant Waterford
The Shack Restaurant Waterford and QHPTA invite you to join us on NOVEMBER 4th from 4PM to 8PM at The Shack Restaurant in Waterford. A portion of the proceeds from their nightly sales will go directly to QHPTA to fund some of the amazing events, programs, and assemblies we have planned for this school year in addition to supporting our incredible teachers and staff.
No flyers, coupons, or secret codes required! November 4th is Election Day and there is NO SCHOOL so just skip the meal planning and go out for dinner.
Veterans’ Day Candy Drive 2025
Since 2009 we have sent one ton of candy to US Troops overseas. In 2015 we were honored to Skype with a US soldier stationed in Afghanistan. To show his appreciation of the kids’ kind-heartedness, he flew a US flag on a mission and sent us the flag, along with a certificate of appreciation. The certificate and flag are proudly showcased in the foyer of our school.
What better way is there to have our children demonstrate patriotism and sharing than to have them donate some of their Halloween candy this year?
I will be accepting candy from students beginning Friday, October 31 through Monday, November 17.

On November 12 as the students celebrate former and currently serving US troops they will have the opportunity to create a heartfelt sentiment that will accompany the candy being shipped overseas to members of the US military. Students are asked to wear red, white and blue on November 12 for the Veterans Day Parade & assembly.

If you know a US soldier serving overseas and would like him or her to receive some candy, please email me the address.
As always, thanks so much for your support!
Ms. Arico (marico@waterfordschools.org)
Daughter of a US Marine
