Hungry for bold flavors, creative street eats, and the stories sizzling behind the grills? You’re in the right place!

This blog is your ultimate guide to Washburn County’s food truck scene — from hidden gems tucked in downtown corners to festival favorites that keep the crowds coming back. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or just someone who appreciates a killer taco on the go, you’ll want to ride along as we chase flavor, one truck at a time.
Let’s hit the streets of Washburn County and meet the trucks that are turning meals on wheels into must-try moments.
A culinary passport on wheels, Cobble Haus Food Wagon serves up European street food with a modern twist — all made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Think ethnic rice bowls, German hot pretzels, brat balls, Polish kraut slaw, pierogies, Irish nachos, and more. The Italian grinders and French parfaits are also crowd favorites, and don’t miss their signature pickles, sauces, and dips. Hosting an event? Their charcuterie cart and catering packages make entertaining effortless and delicious.

Voted Best Bites in the 2023 Best of WashCo awards, The Laughing Goat lives up to the hype. Their menu features freshoff-the-grill burgers, wings, and craveworthy appetizers — with daily specials that change things up and keep fans coming back. Everything is made to order, so you know you’re getting freshness in every bite. Swing by and see why locals keep saying, “See you at The Goat!”
Serving real-deal Chicago Italian beefs with a recipe that's been used since the 1950s, PaPa Saletris is all about family, flavor, and tradition. Choose a classic or go bold with twists like the Mama T's grilled cheese beef or the stacked Wise Guy. They’ve got kidfriendly meals and unforgettable sides like deep-fried ravioli and butter garlic fries — because no meal should be boring.
Comfort food on the go? Say no more. Guy’s Soup’er Sandwich is the stop for soul-warming soups and over-the-top sandwiches that taste just like home — if your dad was a sandwich genius. The star of the show is the namesake Soup’er Sandwich: piled high with meats, veggies, secret oil and sauce, all on a fresh deli bun. Add a rotating soup’er cookie and you’ve got yourself a memory in the making.

Not your average coffee stop — Redemption Coffee operates out of a repurposed shipping container and delivers way more than just caffeine. Since May 2021, it’s become a staple of Spooner’s summer scene with a rooftop deck, kid-friendly play space, and work-from-anywhere amenities like Wi-Fi and charging stations. Fridays are for flights — tasting boards with rotating coffee and non-coffee options that change weekly.

Catch these incredible food trucks (and many more!) at local events like the Food Truck Fest hosted by Perlick Distillery. With over fifteen regional trucks in one spot, it’s the perfect place to sample your way through the best bites in the area. Don’t forget to grab a handcrafted cocktail from the tasting room to round out your foodie adventure.

Sip on a martini made from grains grown on site. Take in the sights on a historic train ride. Try your hand at painting pottery. Immerse yourself in nature at the local nature sanctuary. Make a splash at the indoor pool and play structure. Learn how Wisconsin’s lakes are stocked by touring the local fish hatchery. Glide quietly into a chain of pristine glacial lakes and feel the calm settle in. Surrounded by Washburn County forestland, the Birchwood Canoe Routes offer a peaceful backcountry paddling experience inside the Sawmill Lake Primitive Area. Often described as a “mini Boundary Waters,” this hidden gem delivers the same sense of solitude and natural beauty—without the long drive.
Located just north of Birchwood, the Sawmill Lake Primitive Area spans nearly 16,000 acres of mostly non-motorized land. It’s known for its dense collection of glacial lakes, quiet portages, and excellent fishing. Anglers will find healthy populations of bass and panfish, while Sawmill Lake is also known for green sunfish. As the Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin, the Birchwood area lives up to its reputation—bringing a fishing rod is highly recommended.
The Birchwood Canoe Routes include two scenic portage systems, both ideal for paddlers seeking a manageable and rewarding adventure.
Sawmill Lake Route
Accessible from Sawmill Park Campground, this route connects nine lakes. Most portages are under 100 yards, making it a great option for beginners or families. The lakes along this route reach depths of up to 40 feet and offer a
peaceful paddling experience surrounded by forest and water.
Loyhead Canoe Portage Route
Located about one mile north of the campground, this route links seven lakes. Portages are slightly longer—generally under 200 yards—but well worth the effort for the added sense of remoteness.
Both routes are especially beautiful in the fall, when mixed hardwood forests burst into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. With shorter portages and fewer crowds than larger wilderness destinations, the Birchwood Canoe Routes are perfect for a long weekend escape or a first-time portage adventure.
Sawmill Park Campground offers a comfortable basecamp for paddlers who want a remote feel with a few simple conveniences. The campground features 25 primitive campsites, reservable from May through September, with yearround first-come, first-served availability. Amenities include a hand pump for drinking water, pit toilets, a fishing pier, pavilion, and a small swimming beach. For those seeking a more rustic experience, camping permits are available for shoreline or low-impact camping along select lakes within the primitive area. For more information on paddling routes, camping details, and trip planning, visit the Canoeing section of the Washburn County Tourism website.

When the first Saturday of October rolls around, it’s time to make your way to the charming community of Stone Lake to celebrate Wisconsin’s official fruit - the cranberry! This festival has celebrated the seasonal cranberry harvest for over 40 years. It started as a small group of Stone Lake ladies getting together to have a craft fair & sell locally harvested berries. Now you will find nearly 300 vendors along the streets of Stone Lake selling a variety of homemade items, antique-type treasures, and so much more. The day also includes a good ole fashion pancake breakfast at the fire hall, a krate box derby & parade down the "big hill" (if you have been to Stone Lake, you know exactly where it is). Mark your calendar for the first Saturday of October so you don't miss out on one of Washburn County's largest events.

Tucked into the scenic Northwoods of northwestern Wisconsin, the small town of Stone Lake comes alive each fall with the Stone Lake Cranberry Festival, held annually on the first Saturday in October. Since its start in 1978 as a modest community gathering celebrating the local cranberry harvest, the festival has grown into a major regional attraction while retaining its small-town charm. It honors Wisconsin’s cranberry heritage—Wisconsin produces more than 60% of the nation’s crop—and the tight-knit spirit of the Stone Lake community.
Festival highlights include cranberry marsh tours, where visitors see firsthand how cranberries are grown, harvested, and processed, and can sample fresh berries while learning from local growers. Back in town, streets bustle with over 300 arts and crafts vendors, local nonprofit booths, and a variety of cranberry-themed foods, from brats and pies to jams, muffins, and wine. The Cranberry Festival Baking Contest & Bake Sale showcases creative homemade treats using the iconic fruit.
Entertainment is abundant, including live music, a parade featuring Cranberry Festival Royalty, a krate derby, and a 5K Cranberry Craze Walk/Run. Beyond fun, the festival benefits the community, funding scholarships, local projects, and nonprofit initiatives. Visitors often note the warm hospitality of Stone Lake’s residents, many volunteering year after year to make the event a success.
Whether you’re a cranberry fan, a fall festival enthusiast, or looking for a family-friendly day trip, the Stone Lake Cranberry Festival captures the colors, flavors, and spirit of the season, leaving visitors eager to return.

Days are filled with simple adventures—swimming, fishing, biking, hiking and snowmobiling—while evenings slow down around a cabin table or a crackling campfire. It’s the kind of place where kids can roam a little freer, parents can breathe a little easier and everyone heads home a little happier.

Washburn County is made for repeat visits. With four distinct seasons and endless outdoor recreation, no two trips feel the same. One adventure leads to the next, and before long, you’re planning your return. Your first trip is just the beginning.
