What is the Ismael Magazine?
By the grace of Allah Ta'ala, Waqifeen-e-Nau are now spread across the globe, many of whom are studying in their respective fields while others have already fulfilled their pledge of dedicating their lives for the Jama’at. There are many who are Missionaries, practising Doctors, Television producers, Architects, Graphic designers, Engineers, Accountants and much more.
Ismael is an international magazine, which was launched in 2012 by Hazrat Khalifat-ul-Masih the fifthaba specifically for the Waqifeen-e-Nau around the world. At this auspicious occasion, addressing the Waqifeen-e-Nau Huzoor-e-Anwaraba wrote:
“The magazine has been named as “ISMAEL”, which reminds us of the sacrifices made by Hazrat Ismaelas and by Hazrat Hajiraas who spent their lives in a desolate and barren place and instituted exceptional standards of sacrifices for the sake of religion. Likewise, it is expected of every Waqf to uphold the covenant of Waqf (dedication) made by their parents even before their birth, who have in turn themselves reaffirmed the same.”

A remarkable zeal: A lesson from the 1924 European tour and inspiration for Waqifeen-e-Nau

The Fazl Mosque, also known as London’s first mosque, has a very deep and significant history. Not only is it linked with the 1924 European tour of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra, which, was the first time a Khalifatul Masih travelled outside India, journeying through the Middle East, Europe and the UK, but it has, and still does, hold a grand and central importance within the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama‘at.
When laying the cornerstone of this mosque, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra declared and prayed that Allah make it a centre for promulgating the views of purity, piety, justice and love, “and may this place prove a sun of spiritual light radiating forth in this country and in all the countries around the blessed beams of the heavenly light of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, the Chosen One of God and the Seal of the Prophets and of Ahmad, the Promised Messiah, the Prophet of God, the vicegerent, and the reflection of Muhammad, may peace and the blessings of God be upon them both. Amin.” (Al Fazl, 15 & 13 November 1924)
This mosque has been visited and prayed in by four Khulafa of the Promised Messiahas, and many well-known personalities have also visited it. It has survived a world war, and numerous significant initiatives have originated from this mosque. One such milestone initiative was the Waqf-e-Nau Scheme, which was launched here on 3 April 1987, by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh
Thus, the Fazl Mosque, whose cornerstone was laid in 1924, holds great significance with this blessed scheme.
A young Khalifa entrusted with a great mission
At times, we forget that although Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra was the leader of the Jama‘at, he was still very young when Allah Almighty appointed him as Khalifa. At the time of this Tour of Europe, Huzoorra was around 35 years of age, an age many Waqifeene-Nau who were in the early batch are also reaching today. Reflecting on this, we can better appreciate the immense responsibility that was placed upon Huzoorra at such a young age, and how, at every step, Allah provided His help and support. This Tour of Europe stands as a special example of the truth that when one firmly holds to the way of Allah and His Messengersa, the victory of Allah is always near.
Before leaving, on 12 July 1924, members of the Jama‘at gathered at Masjid Mubarak, Qadian, to see off Huzoorra, who prayed at the grave
of the Promised Messiahas. While traveling, Huzoorra passed through various cities in India.
After three days away from the Jama‘at, Huzoorra made his way to Bombay Port, where he composed a letter expressing his deep love for the Jama‘at. He wrote, “In life and in death, I am only yours.”
The details of Huzoor’sra tour need not be mentioned here, as they have already been recorded at length in various periodicals.
However, what must be highlighted is the extraordinary dedication and love for Islam and its propagation that were evident throughout the entire journey. The Tour of Europe, by itself, contained tasks and achievements that most people could not accomplish even in a lifetime.
What Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra achieved within a span of four to five months is something that many would
struggle to achieve in 40 or 50 years. Indeed, this journey was a manifestation of the helping hand of Allah. A study of this tour leaves no doubt that Allah’s support was continuously at work in aiding His Khalifa.
One such incident from this tour, which highlights both Huzoor’sra dedication and the help of Allah, is not as widely known as some of the other events of the journey. It relates to how, in a single day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra spread the teachings of Islam Ahmadiyyat throughout Italy.
Four days in Italy, a lasting impact
Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra, along with his entourage, arrived in Italy in August 1924. Huzoorra, even after a long journey, was still driven by an unshakeable ambition. For four short days, his stay grew not as a pause for rest but as a continuance of his mission. Despite unavoidable tiredness, every moment was spent in the service of Islam.
Italy stood at the heart of Europe, and its aisles of power were not foreign. Huzoorra met with the country’s Prime Minister, Benito Mussolini, and presented to him the purpose of Ahmadiyyat. Even so, Huzoor’sra heart
was set on another meeting. He planned to meet Pope Pius XI and present the teachings of Islam directly to him. Yet, upon arrival, the news came that the Pope was not meeting anyone. What seemed like a closed door lingered in the air, heavy with uncertainty.
This was a pivotal moment. What would most people do in such a situation? Many would simply say, Fine, perhaps another time. However, as the saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way, and Huzoor’sra will and resolve were exceptionally strong. He did not let the news about the Pope halt his efforts. What happened next can only be seen as the work of Allah, a fulfilment of the divine promise, “He shall be accompanied by grace [fazl], which shall arrive with him.”
On 18th of August, after the Zuhr and Asr prayers, contact was made with the editor of La Tribuna, one of Italy’s then most widely read newspapers. The editor’s eagerness was a sight to be seen. He was ready to come at any hour, even late into the night, just to speak with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II ra .
The interview that followed became a special moment. Huzoorra spoke in depth about Islam Ahmadiyyat. When
asked what he would say to the Pope, he replied that he would offer the greatest gift of all: the invitation to Islam and the light that leads mankind to God.
When asked further, Huzoorra testified that God had spoken to him through revealed words, not mere thoughts. Soon after, La Tribuna published the interview and Huzoor’sra photograph, carrying his message across the country. Though the Pope had never met Huzoorra, Italy itself had heard. In those four brief days, a nation was introduced to the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat.
So what’s the takeaway for us? If we
reflect on this incident, the key lesson is the dedication of Hazrat Musleh-eMaud ra .
In life, even when it seems as though our backs are against the wall and all hope appears lost, we must never lose sight of the fact that our efforts are only blessed when we keep God everpresent in our hearts. Every action and deed should be devoted to the service of God’s faith: Islam. If we remain sincere in this commitment, then surely Allah will make a way for us, just as Allah demonstrated in the incident that occurred in Italy.
Hazrat Musleh Maud’sra visit to
Italy in 1924 and its blessed results

Historically, Italy has been the centre of Catholic Christianity and hence it holds certain significance. Italy was the first European country ever visited by a Khalifatul Masih.
In 1924, after the successful visit to the Middle East, enroute to England, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra and his entourage proceeded towards Italy and boarded SS Pilsna, a service of the Lloyd Triestino and Marittima Italiana –fortnightly mail and passenger service between Bombay and Italy.
It is important to mention here that the Promised Messiah’sas name had already reached Italy during his lifetime. For instance, in 1899, the 12th International Congress of Orientalists was held in Rome and during that event, TW Arnold gave an extensive
introduction to the Promised Messiahas and his claims.

Visits to Italy in 1924
However, the name of the Promised Messiahas echoed on a far greater level as a result of Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud’sra visit to Italy in 1924. Huzoorra stayed in Brindisi and Rome between 16 and 20 August 1924, enroute to England, and then on his way back to India, he had a short stay in Milan on 31 October 1924 as well.
At 9:30 am on 16 August 1924, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra reached Brindisi, an Italian port city. While the ship was still in the process of docking, Huzoorra called all of his entourage to the top
deck. Huzoorra led all members in lengthy silent prayer before landing on European soil, since this was a momentous occasion in the history of Islam. The staff and passengers gathered around to witness this historic scene with wonder and amazement. While the entourage was alighting from the ship, many people captured photographs, particularly of Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra. After this, Huzoorra and his entourage arrived at the Grand Hotel International.

From Brindisi, the entourage embarked on an express train which departed at 6:30 pm on 16 August and reached Rome at 9:30 am on 17 August 1924, staying at the Grand Continental Hotel. At around 4 pm, Huzoorra went outside for a walk and visited the catacombs, the Colosseum and the Baths of Caracalla.

Speaking of the catacombs, Huzoorra wrote:
“These catacombs have been built on three levels, and I have witnessed them with my own eyes while in Rome en route to England in 1924. One can see the rooms of the first level without much difficulty, but one feels loss of breath on the second level and then it is
nearly impossible for one to go to the third level, which is the lowest one, due to the darkness and humidity. I have witnessed that the Christians had made them like a maze, in accordance with their needs.”

Three French newspapers – Paris-Midi on 26 August 1924 and Le Siècle and L’Action on 27 August 1924 – published an article titled “The Revival of Islam”
At the beginning of this article, a brief introduction was given about the Promised Messiahas and his claims. Towards the end, it stated:
[Translation] “He came straight to Rome to have a theological conversation with the other Pope, I mean Pius XI. It is clear that the conversion of the Holy Father by the Most Holy Mahmud[ra] would mark a serious progress of Ahmadiyyat, and it would be, for once, an event that we could not ignore. Unfortunately, the offices of the Vatican responded that the pontifical apartments, upset by the architects for the preparation of the Holy Year, were not in a condition, for the moment, to receive with dignity a visitor as distinguished as Mahmud[ra]. It is a shame.”
To convey the message of Islam to the then-Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra had a meeting with him on 19 August 1924

During Huzoor’sra visit to Italy, various Italian periodicals published interviews, including La Tribuna, Il Giornale d’Italia, La Nuova Italia and Corriere della Sera.
Moreover, this visit was covered by the Austrian press as well. For instance, Illustrirtes Wiener Extrablatt of 24 August 1924 mentioned this visit, under the heading “The Muslim Pope in Rome” .
Interestingly, in December 1924, an Italian magazine published an account of Dr Ezzelino Magli who travelled on the same ship that was boarded by Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra from Bombay to Port Said. Mr Magli narrated about his interaction with Huzoorra, along with some photographs.
On 18 August 1924, Hazrat Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad Sayalra, Hazrat Maulana Abdur Rahim Dardra and Hazrat Sheikh Yaqub Ali Irfanira
met with the editor of a well-known Italian paper, La Tribuna. The editor expressed his strong desire to interview Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra. Thereafter, Huzoorra was interviewed on 19 August, where he spoke about various religious and socio-political issues. After the interview, the newspaper published a detailed article on 20 August, along with a photograph of Huzoorra and his entourage with the caption “The Muslim ‘Pope’ and his dignitaries, in Rome”
In regard to this newspaper, Huzoorra stated:
“We stayed for three days in Italy. When our members went to meet the editor of the biggest newspaper there, which has a publication of 0.8 million and is published in 10 different cities, he requested to be given the opportunity to meet before anyone else, whether it was during the night. Thus, he arrived at 11 pm as fixed, continued the discussion till 12 am, and wrote a powerful article the very next morning.
“While in Italy, I wanted to meet with the Pope, however, upon asking through the English secretary, [Pope] said that nowadays there are no meetings due to the work at his residence. The editor of the aforementioned newspaper asked whether I would meet the Pope. When I told him about the Pope’s response, he asked, why do I want to meet him? I responded since he is a respectable person, we would have presented him with a gift as a gesture of respect. He asked, what kind of a gift? I replied, in our view, Islam is the best gift, and we would have presented it to him. He mentioned this point in his article as well.”

The editor of another Italian newspaper, Il Giornale d’Italia, interviewed Huzoorra and published an article on 20 August 1924, titled “Muslim Renewal: Ahmadiyya”.
In regards to departure from Italy, Hazrat Sheikh Yaqub Ali Irfanira narrates that Huzoorra went to the office of Thomas Cook & Son – the travel agency used during this whole journey – in the evening of 19 August 1924. The tickets arranged by Thomas Cook & Son had created such a situation that Huzoorra would have reached before his companions. Huzoorra noticed this issue and said that such an arrangement was not appropriate. An employee at Thomas Cook & Son expressed that
there was no issue with this since the rest of the entourage will arrive after a few hours. Upon this, Huzoorra told him that this must not happen, as this journey is being managed under a plan that cannot be compromised. Thus, new tickets were arranged. In short, the entourage departed from Rome on the evening of 20 August.”

While returning to Qadian, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra and his entourage visited Italy once again. They reached Milan from Paris, via Lausanne, Brigue and Domodossola.
Mentioning about arrival at the Stazione di Milano Centrale, Hazrat Bhai Abdur Rahman Qadianira narrates that the other passengers were looking at Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra and his entourage through the windows and they seemed to be in awe and amazement witnessing such a scene. It was evident that they wanted to ask questions but the language barrier caused hesitance, however, after some time, a few English passengers served as interpreters and helped convey the
sentiments of the passengers to the entourage and their response as well.

While at the Stazione di Milano Centrale, the editor of a well-known newspaper, Corriere della Sera, interviewed Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra, while an English trader served as an interpreter. The newspaper then published the article under the heading “The ‘pontiff’ of the reformist Muslims passing through Milan”
Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra and his entourage went out sightseeing in the city of Milan. Later on, the train departed from Milan for Venice at
around 7 pm.

Ahmadiyya Mission in Italy
Through Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud’sra visit to Italy, a great foundation was laid for the future tabligh endeavours in this country.
It is interesting to note that in 1932, a French book was published from Rome which stated that “the wellknown Ahmadiyya movement aspires to win all nations to the Crescent”. It further gave a detailed introduction of the Promised Messiahas and missionary
activities of the Jama‘at.

In 1934, when Tahrik-e-Jadid was launched, Italy was one of the earliest countries to have an Ahmadiyya Mission under this scheme.
The mission in Italy was established in 1937 and after World War II, it was revived in 1946. The reports from the missionaries provide interesting insight into how they utilised the limited means to propagate the message of Islam in a Christian country, amidst various restrictions from the authorities. Moreover, their preaching endeavours echoed through the press, not only in Italy, but in other countries as well, such as Morocco.
In one of his speeches, Huzoorra narrated the history of Islam in Spain and Sicily (Italy), and stated that Muslims had ruled Sicily, however, they were later ousted by the Christians. Keeping this history in mind, Huzoorra said, he had “firmly committed that, if Allah the Almighty enables me, I will send missionaries to these lands for the propagation of Ahmadiyyat who would once again make Islam victorious in these lands and raise its flag in that country once more.”

As for the Muslim era in Sicily, an Italian periodical, Dafni of May-June 1963, wrote that historians always praise the state of Sicily during the Arab-Muslim era and mentioned that this is attested by the mosques, architecture and schools of medicine, mathematics, law and theology. Towards the end, it stated that from the 9th to 11th century, the Muslim conquest offered this Island a civilisation and a progressiveness unknown at the time to other regions of Italy.
In 1935 and 1936, two Italian books gave an extensive introduction of Ahmadiyyat and the Promised Messiah’sas claims. These books were titled La dottrina dell’Islam and Storia delle Religioni .
As mentioned above, the Ahmadiyya Mission in Italy was established in 1937, when Malik Muhammad Sharif Sahib was sent there as the first Ahmadi missionary.

An Italian newspaper, Gazzetta di Venezia, mentioned the Ahmadi missionary in one of its issues in August 1937. The article stated that Malik Muhammad Sharif, who is currently in Rome, is one of the most notable dignitaries of the
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community which has its headquarters in Qadian, India. The newspaper further wrote that he is among the most highly regarded followers of the current Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Muhammad Sharif Sahib reached Rome on 21 January 1937. Before the Second World War, around 30 people had accepted Ahmadiyyat in Italy and thereafter, he was kept in the prison camps of The Axis from 1940 to 1944. Another Ahmadi missionary, Maulvi Muhammad-ud-Din Sahib served for a short period in Rome in 1938.

Upon being released from the prison, Malik Sahib informed Hazrat Muslehe-Maudra through a letter.

In 1937, when Hazrat Sir Zafrulla Khanra visited Rome as a representative of the Indian Government, an Italian newspaper, Il Piccolo, mentioned him in its 1 September 1937 issue and wrote that he is “an influential member of the Ahmadiyya Movement, whose leader, Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad[ra] was received by the Duce [Benito Mussolini] in 1924.”
While the world was struggling to
recover from the trauma of the horrific world war, a determined Champion of Islam continued his mission to spread the message of Islam to all corners of the world through the blessed scheme of Tahrik-e-Jadid.
Huzoorra decided to send more missionaries around the world, particularly in Europe. For Italy, he chose Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil Sahib and Muhammad Usman Sahib. Thus, a delegation of nine missionaries departed from Qadian on 18 December 1945 and reached London on 14 January 1946. Their arrival attracted the attention of the British press; multiple articles were published along with photographs, including Daily Sketch of 15 January 1946, Daily Mirror of 15 January 1946 and Yorkshire Observer of 16 January 1946 .
In April 1946, Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil Sahib and Muhammad Usman Sahib departed for Italy. A week before their departure, a report stated under the heading “Mosque to be Established in Rome – Two Indian Maulvis Leave London on Missionary Trip”.

They departed from London on 14
April 1946. Mentioning this, South Western Star of 19 April 1946 published an article under the heading “Envoys of Islam”.
Upon the revival of the Ahmadiyya Mission in Italy, the missionaries utilised all available means to spread the message of Islam to the Italians. In one of his articles – published in Al Fazl on 4 July 1946 – Hazrat Muslehe-Maudra stated, “By the grace of Allah the Almighty, we are striving for once again raising the flag of Islam in both Spain and Sicily, alhamdulillah.”
The same issue of Al Fazl reported that upon receiving the letters from the missionaries, Huzoorra stated, “Allah the Almighty has fulfilled my desire. Our missionaries have reached in both of the former Islamic countries, Spain and Sicily, and the task of propagating Islam has been initiated.”
Various Italian newspapers covered their tabligh efforts, for instance, Illustrazione del Popolo, published an article on 2 March 1947, under the heading “Muhammad in Sicily”, along with photographs of both missionaries and an introduction of the Promised Messiahas. Other periodicals which published articles, included La Luce of 15 September 1947 and Corriere d’Informazione of 9-8 January 1948.

The missionaries were making efforts to propagate the message of Islam in Italy, however, it was mid1947- when the government began asking them to leave the country.

Initially, the missionaries left Messina and continued tabligh in other cities of Italy, however, in the early 1948, they had to leave the country. Ibrahim Khalil Sahib was instructed by Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra to move to Sierra Leone and while he had a short stay in Casablanca, Morocco, a local French newspaper, La Vigie Marocaine, published his interview along with an introduction to Ahmadiyyat on 20 February 1948.
Similarly, Muhammad Usman Sahib also left Italy and The Civil and Military Gazette reported about his arrival in London in its 26 November 1948 issue.
Since the missionaries were ordered by the Italian government to leave the country, the mission could not continue at the time. However, the records suggest that efforts were made in the following years to re-establish
the mission and to even acquire land for building a mosque. The Civil and Military Gazette of 8 September 1957 stated, “The Ahmadiyya Muslim sect plans to build a mosque in Zurich and to open a mission in Rome.”
It must be noted that at the time, though Ahmadis were present in Italy, there was no formally-established mission, as highlighted by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIIrh during his address at the 1965 Jalsa Salana Rabwah. He mentioned various countries, including Italy, where missions were established during Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud’sra time, but they could not continue due to certain restrictions and difficulties. Thus, Huzoorrh emphasised the urgent need to re-establish those missions.

During his tour of Europe in 1973, Huzoorrh had a short visit to Italy as well.

The efforts to re-establish the Italy Mission continued in the following years as well. In 1985, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh visited Italy and while narrating the details of his visit during the Friday Sermon on 4 October 1985, he mentioned Malik Muhammad Sharif Sahib and the early missionary activities in Italy. Huzoorrh emphasised
the need to re-establish the mission there and indicated that a few places were being considered where a mission could be established.

By the grace of Allah the Almighty, during the blessed era of Khilafat-eKhamisa, a piece of land was acquired in San Pietro, Bologna. Mentioning this, during his Friday Sermon on 30 May 2008, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated that for a long time, efforts were being made to acquire land for the mission house in Italy, and hence, the council has now approved a piece of land for this purpose.

The new centre was named Bait-utTauheed and this was the place from where Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa delivered a historic Friday Sermon on 16 April 2010 – the first-ever Friday Sermon broadcast live from Italy. During the sermon, Huzooraa prayed that may Allah the Almighty enable the Italy Jama‘at to build a mosque in San Pietro and in Rome as well, and remove the prevailing difficulties and hurdles.

In 2019, Allah the Almighty enabled Jama‘atAhmadiyya Italy to purchase another piece of land, adjacent to the
mission house in San Pietro.

In short, the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat continues to echo in Italy and the Jamaat is making progress under the blessed guidance of Khilafate-Ahmadiyya, and will continue to do so, insha-Allah.

So, what do we learn from this? Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud, Khalifatul Masih IIra, was indeed a leader, young in age, yet a powerful dreamer. His will was immense, and his aspirations were lofty. Through his example, Huzoorra demonstrated that with shared will, devotion and the grace of Allah, we must continue to march forward.

1. Can you please tell us a bit about what you have studied and how you have been serving within the Jama’at in various capacities?
I completed my BE in Computer Engineering in 2009. During that time, I had the opportunity to serve as Zaeem in Khuddamul Ahmadiyya. Around 2010, when I noticed the Jama’at was beginning to publish mobile apps, I wrote to info@alislam.org to offer my humble services, as I was already working in mobile app development professionally. By the grace of Allah, that is how I became attached to the Alislam team. Within Jama’at I have also served in various capacities, and most recently completed two terms as Sadr Jama’at in Montreal. In 2023, I wrote to beloved Huzooraa requesting to accept me as Waqif-e-Zindagi, and by Allah’s immense grace, since October of that year, I have been serving as a full-time Waqfe-Zindagi. Everything I have been able to do has only been through prayers and Huzoor’s guidance.
2. You have mentioned some
of your work with Alislam. org what was your most challenging project?
My first app was the “Find Ahmadiyya Muslim Community” app, which allowed users to locate nearby mosques and get driving directions. The challenge at that time was that people were still adjusting to using new technology and there were concerns around it. I also worked on the “E-letter” app that allowed members to send letters to beloved Huzooraa, and later on the MTA app which allowed live streaming and displayed schedules. The biggest challenge has always been helping people feel comfortable with technology and its role in the Jama’at’s progress, but with the prayers and guidance of Huzooraa, these projects found success and acceptance.
3. Is there anyone who specifically inspired you?
For many years, I have been blessed to observe Dr. Nasim Rehmatullah Sahib (Incharge Alislam). His tireless dedication and deep loyalty to Khilafat have always inspired me. My
greatest inspiration, however, is our beloved Khalifatul Masihaa. The vast responsibilities Huzoor carries, his unmatched work ethic, and his ever-present love and kindness are a source of true motivation and strength for me.
4. What creates passion and motivation when you are carrying out your duties within the Jama’at?
Often, members of the Jama’at reach out and share how they use Alislam.org or one of our apps daily. Knowing it helps them brings great encouragement and a profound sense of responsibility. But my strongest motivation comes when beloved Huzooraa mentions our work or offers prayers and guidance for it. That spiritual connection reminds me that no progress is possible without Huzoor’s direction and without prayers.
5. How can we attain the pleasure of Allah Tala when we serve within the Jama’at?
I honestly feel deeply unqualified to answer this, but as I understand it, we should focus on working sincerely for Allah’s sake alone,
not for personal recognition. We should pray fervently, work hard, and always remain obedient to the guidance of Khalifatul Masihaa. True success and Allah’s pleasure come only through prayers and Khilafat’s blessings.
6. For a Waqif-e-Nau/Waqifae-Nau who is interested in pursuing computer engineering and working with alislam.org, what guidance would you give him/ her? How can you pursue in this field?
I would suggest focusing on building strong technical foundations and learning how to use technology, especially artificial intelligence, responsibly and effectively. The hype around AI will fade, but those who are sincere, prayerful, and hardworking will continue to contribute meaningfully to the future. And most importantly, always seek guidance and prayers from Huzooraa. It is only through that direction that our technical work becomes truly blessed and impactful.
7. How are you still keeping
in touch with Khalifatul Masih Vaba and why is it important to have that bond with Khalifatul Masihaa?
I regularly write letters to beloved Huzooraa requesting prayers and guidance, and I pray for Huzooraa daily. We are extremely fortunate that we can also have mulaqats, where we humbly present progress and seek instructions. Over time, I have realized that true success in any work comes only through devotion, obedience, and love for Khilafat. Without that spiritual bond, none of our efforts would bear fruit.
8. Please share a story or event you had with Khalifatul Masih aa ?
At the very early stage of generative AI, I humbly had the opportunity to ask Huzooraa a question about it. Huzooraa graciously replied that we should actively explore it and find ways to use it for the benefit of the Jama’at and humanity, and that anything produced through AI should always be verified by scholars. That simple yet deeply profound instruction guides me
to this day. Each time I research or test new tools, I remember Huzoor’s words and realize how timeless and wise that guidance truly was.
9. How do you see yourself serving the Jama’at in the future?
I see immense opportunities ahead to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat through digital and online platforms. There is still so much work to be done. My only prayer is that Allah may enable me to continue serving under beloved Huzoor’saa guidance and be a small part of this blessed mission.

Can you share with us what inspired you to dedicate your life as a Waqf-e-Nau and eventually become a missionary?
My inspiration to dedicate my life and later serve as a murabbie-silsila (missionary) comes from both my upbringing and the examples I witnessed closely while growing up. I had missionaries within my own family, and seeing their lives first-hand left a lasting impression on me. I saw how they were a pivotal part of society — serving not only Muslims but also non-Muslims, to people from all backgrounds. Their scope of work and influence went far beyond the mosque, and this broad, people-centred approach to service inspired me.
Over time, through reflection and prayer, I came to see missionary service as a natural
path for me to follow. Above all, Huzoor’s own example has been a constant source of inspiration. Seeing him as the ultimate missionary, his tireless dedication to the Jamaat, the immense responsibility he carries, has had a profound impact on me. His life of sacrifice, leadership, and compassion continues to serve as a role model for me, motivating me to contribute in whatever way I can to the service of faith, the Jamaat, and humanity at large.
You currently serve in the press and media department of the Jama’at. What does a typical day look like for you in this role?
You often hear people say that no two days are the same, and that certainly holds true in the Press and Media office. A typical day can vary greatly depending on current events and ongoing
priorities. Much of the work involves monitoring media coverage, responding to enquiries, and ensuring that the Jama’at’s position is communicated accurately, responsibly, and with clarity. This may include drafting statements, preparing briefings, supporting interviews, or coordinating closely with other departments as and when issues arise.
A significant part of my role also focuses on engagement and outreach. This includes networking with journalists and media professionals, meeting others working in communications, and building relationships that help foster a better understanding of Islam. I regularly deliver talks at universities, particularly to students studying media, journalism, and related disciplines,
as well as speaking in schools. I am also involved in providing cultural and religious awareness training for organisations such as the police, fire services, and other public bodies, including media organisations. In addition, the department facilitates mosque tours for journalists and professionals and contributes to interviews on a wide range of topics related to Islam. Was there a time when you felt overwhelmed by the responsibilities of being a missionary — and how did you find strength to carry on?
Like any role that carries significant responsibility, there are times when the expectations as a murabbi can feel challenging. The work often involves addressing sensitive matters, supporting individuals through difficult circumstances, and managing a wide range of responsibilities simultaneously. At times, the pace or emotional weight of the work requires a conscious pause to reflect and reconnect with the purpose that first drew me to this calling.
In such moments, I find strength through prayer. Oftentimes, I find myself on YouTube, revisiting faith-inspiring content shared on official Jama’at platforms. It could be a video of a prayer come true or a faith inspiring incident regarding Huzoor, shared by someone else. Watching these reminders helps reassure me, renew my perspective, and refocus my intentions.
In today’s fast-paced digital world, what role do you think the press and media office plays in spreading the true message of Islam Ahmadiyyat?
In today’s fast-paced digital world, the Press and Media Office plays a vital role in communicating the true message of Islam Ahmadiyyat. We live in an environment where there is often a race to be the “first” to share news, which can sometimes lead to inaccuracies or even unnecessary alarm. On other occasions, we face the challenge that “good news is no news,” with stories that are positive or non-controversial receiving little attention. In such a landscape, having our own
credible representation is crucial. It ensures that people who wish to understand the truth can rely on our media outlets for accurate, timely, and authentic information about the Jama’at and its activities.
Beyond simply providing information, the Press and Media Office enables engagement and dialogue. Through interviews, articles, social media, videos, and public events, we educate a diverse audience, including Muslims, non-Muslims, students, professionals, and organisations, about the beliefs, values, and work of the Jama’at. By presenting information clearly, responsibly, and consistently, the media becomes a powerful tool to address misconceptions, highlight the peaceful and humanitarian principles of Islam Ahmadiyyat, and foster understanding and goodwill between communities.
Could you share an example of when your role as a missionary positively influenced your community leadership work—or vice versa?
Some readers may know that I also serve as a district councillor as well as a town councillor. In my district role, I hold a cabinet position overseeing around 15 departments on behalf of the council, covering 43 towns and roughly 180,000 residents. The training and experience I have gained as a missionary have been invaluable in this work. They have equipped me to engage with people from all kinds of backgrounds, understand their needs, and approach challenges with patience and empathy. This foundation allows me to support tens of thousands of people across different areas of community life and address issues from multiple angles.
At the same time, my council work has also aided my missionary role. Being involved in local government gives me a real understanding of the practical challenges people face, which helps me offer more relevant guidance, support, and outreach within the Jama’at. Both roles demand listening, understanding, and building trust, and the experiences from one naturally strengthen the other. This balance, I would like to believe, has allowed me to serve both the wider community and the Jama’at in a more meaningful way.
What are some of the guidelines from KhalifatulMasih (aa) which you personally received that you would like to share for the Waqifeen-e-Nau to help them in their journey?
I have been incredibly fortunate to witness the impact of Huzoor’s prayers and guidance in many aspects of my life and work over the past few years. One example that particularly stands out is Jalsa Salana UK. There is so much that happens behind the scenes to ensure the Jalsa runs
smoothly and meets the needs of attendees. I am certain that none of this would be possible without Huzoor’s prayers and guidance.
Huzoor’s attention to detail and the personal care Huzoor invests throughout the year to ensure everything is prepared for the comfort and ease of Jama’at members is beyond comprehension and incredibly remarkable. Beyond Jalsa Salana,
I have also personally benefitted from Huzoor’s guidance in numerous other areas of my work and life as a missionary.
If I were to summarise the guidance I have received from Huzoor into three key principles, they would be, first, never forget Allah in anything you do; second, always remain humble and recognise that any good you have done or received is by the grace of Allah; and third, always remain loyal to Khilafat. These principles have provided me with a valuable framework that I try to fulfil my duties understanding.
2nd International Waqf-e-Nau refresher course 2026
Alhamdulilah, with the blessing of Allah Almighty and Huzoor’s continuous prayers and guidance, the Central Waqf e Nau department held its 2nd international refresher course at Masroor Hall, Tilford, Islamabad UK.
Live coverage was provided from the Farnham studio alongside the Islamabad, Tilford proceedings on the official Central Waqf-e-Nau YouTube channel. According to the reports more than 25,000 viewed the livestream. Alhamdulilah
Translations department simultaneously provided the Urdu and English translations throughout the livestream, while the Indonesian Desk
rendered translation in the local language.
The Central IT department began developing the Central Waqf-e-Nau app two months prior and completed it before the programme date, and fulfilled all necessary requirements with Android and Apple service providers.
Attendance
With the permission of Huzoor Anwaraa, invitations were sent to all National Waqf-e-Nau Secretaries. Those unable to attend physically participated online.
By the sheer grace of Allah the Almighty:
• 20 National Secretary Waqfe-Nau attended in person.
• 19 representatives of National Secretaries participated.
• 125 Local Secretaries joined from around the world.
Alhamdulilah, with the Grace of Allah the total attendance for this refreshers course was 219 participants.

The opening session
Saturday 17th January 2026
With Huzoor Anwar’s permission Respected Abdul Majid Tahir sahib (Additional Wakil-UlTabshir UK) formally started the opening session at 10:10am with the recitation of Holy Quran. Respected Abdul Khabeer Rizwan sahib Murabbi-e-Silsila recited the verses 162-164 of Surah Al-An’am and presented the Urdu translation from Tafsire-Saghir.
A brief introduction and welcome address were presented, followed by the inaugural speech of Respected Abdul Majid Sahib, including guidance from Huzoor’s previous addresses to Waqf-e-Nau secretaries.
Central Waqf-e-Nau Department
The Next programme in this session was presented by Central Waqf-e-Nau department. The programme was conducted by Luqman Kishwar Sahib, Farukh Arshad Sahib and Touqeer Ahmed Tanvir Sahib.
Daily administrative challenges and solutions were discussed, followed by a Q&A session for in-person and online participants.

Respected Abdul Wadood Sahib (Head of Markaz IT Department) delivered a presentation on GDPR and data protection.

At 3pm Editors of Ismael magazine respected Farrukh Raheel Sahib and Talat Syam Sahib explained the importance of both the Ismael and Maryam magazines. Thereafter, respected Naseer Ahmad Qamar Sahib (Additional Wakil-ul-Isha’at) spoke on the importance and purpose of Waqf-e-Nau and answered questions on this topic.
Third Session
After Magrib namaz the following lectures and presentations were conducted:
The highlight of this refresher course and most cherished moment was when Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih Vaa blessed the audience with his presence before the Zuhr and Asr prayers. During this time Huzoor Anwaraa inaugurated the Central Waqfe-Nau app, participants were granted the honour of a group photograph with beloved Huzooraa. After this Huzoor delivered a brief address to the participants highlighting the need for Waqf-e-Nau secretaries to educate Waqifeen-e-Nau in recognising their role and responsibilities.

Second Day, Sunday 18th of January 2026
The morning session was chaired by respected Abid Waheed Khan Sahib, In charge Markazi Press & Media office. The proceedings began with recitation of the Holy Quran by respected Tariq Yusuf Sahib, national secretary Waqf-eNau Sweden.
Thereafter, respected Abid Waheed Khan Sahib spoke about the blessings of Waqf and shared some faith inspiring incidents of Huzoor aa .
A practical guide for Waqfe-Nau secretaries
In this part of the programme a few National Secretaries delivered presentations regarding some of the activities taking place within their respective countries. The purpose of this programme was to inspire and learn from each other how best we can education and do the Tarbiyyat of our Waqifeen-e-Nau. In this session Respected Mirza Haris Ahmed Sahib (national secretary Waqf-e-Nau USA, Respected Saadat Ahmed Sahib (national secretary Waqf-e-Nau Germany) and Mohsin Ahmad Ramjeet (national secretary Waqf-e-Nau Mauritius) gave presentations.
Following this Mirza Mehmood Ahmed Sahib (Secretary Nusrat Jahan scheme) delivered his lecture. The purpose of his lecture was to present an outline of this scheme and to guide Waqifeen-e-
Nau and management to encourage doctors and teachers to dedicate their lives under this scheme.
Respected Waqar Ahmed Sahib and respected Tariq Ahmed Sahib of Markaz IT department gave a presentation on the topic of serving Jama’at through IT, they also explained the different fields of IT through which Waqifeen-eNau can serve.
At the end of this sitting a Panel Q&A session was organized. During this session respected Abdul Quddus Arif Sahib (national secretary Waqf-e-Nau UK), respected Saadat Ahmed Sahib (national secretary Waqf-
e-Nau Germany) and Luqman Ahmed Kishwer Sahib (head of Central Waqf-e-Nau department) answered the questions and briefly imparted Huzoor’s instructions regarding the administrative affairs.
Concluding Session
After Zuhr and Asr, respected Abdul Majid Tahir Sahib (Additional Wakil-Ul-Tabshir UK) presided the final session and formally began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Respected Danial Tasawar Sahib (Murabbi Silsila) recited the verses 34 to 37 from Surah Aal-e-Imran.

The video of Huzoor’s blessed visit was played for the audience. Respected Abdul Majid Sahib (Additional Wakil-Ul-Tabshir UK) then delivered a short concluding speech. In his speech he advised to follow all the instructions of Huzooraa and emphasized that every success and blessing intrinsically tied to the Holy personage of Khalifatul Masih. Later, he also narrated some faith-uplifting incidents in the context of following Huzoor’s instructions and acceptance of Huzoor’s prayers. At the end of his speech, he led the audience in silent prayer.
The social media report
Alhamdulilah, with the blessing of Allah international refresher course was streamed online for two days and many people from different countries attended this event virtually. Moreover, Urdu, English, Indonesian and Burmi translation were done simultaneously. More than 25,000 people watched the live stream on the official YouTube channel of
central Waqf-e-Nau department. Similarly, 2667 people had watched this stream on the official YouTube channels of Indonesia and Burma. In addition to that, 1,32,000 people engaged with this transmission through different social media platforms like X, Instagram, Telegram and You Tube. Alhamdulilah, with the sheer grace of God it was a very successful event.
