Skyspace
This is a public toilet located within a park. The site is in the Yanshuei District Featured Park in Tainan City. The overall planning and design of the park was carried out by Sansheng Planning & Design Company, while the toilet building within the park was designed by Wang Hsiao Kuei Architects Studio.
The building’s exterior is defined by five distinctive cylindrical volumes, housing two family restrooms, an accessible restroom, a gender-friendly restroom, and a nursing room. An outdoor circular washbasin equipped with faucets at varying heights accommodates users of all ages, making the facility both inclusive and intuitive.
To ensure the toilet blends seamlessly into the park and becomes an integrated part of the landscape, the design adopts a curved floor plan and a roof optimized for natural ventilation and daylight. As a result, the interior remains odor-free and bright throughout the day without the need for artificial lighting, while offering a safe, well-lit environment at night. Its playful, highly recognizable form allows visitors to locate the toilet with ease, transforming it into a charming element of the park rather than a disruption to its scenery.
Inside, the skylight creates a quiet, sky-gazing moment, with soft daylight filtering in as clouds drift overhead. The metal roof also provides generous shade and rain shelter, becoming a valuable refuge within the openness of the park.
