Racquet Program Guide

Dear Members,

I’m delighted to welcome you to the Racquet Program at The Wanderers Club. Since joining the team in December 2024, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many of our wonderful Members. I’m incredibly grateful for the warm reception and truly appreciate the sense of camaraderie that makes The Wanderers Club so special. It’s a privilege to be part of such an engaged and passionate group of players who share a genuine love for racquet sports.

As I prepare for my first full season with you, I’m filled with excitement for what’s ahead—both on the courts and throughout the Club. It promises to be a fun, rewarding season, and I look forward to sharing every moment with you.

This Racquet Program Guide has been thoughtfully created to serve as your go-to resource. Inside, you’ll find essential information about seasonal programming, instructional offerings, court reservations, contact details and a full calendar of events designed to bring our community together—both socially and competitively.

One of the most exciting updates this season is our revamped Junior Tennis Program. We’ve restructured it to better align with age, skill level and long-term development, offering a more personalized and engaging experience for our young athletes. From foundational skills to advanced training, our junior clinics are designed to build confidence, improve technique, and most importantly, nurture a lifelong love of the game.

We’ve also introduced a new registration process for all clinics and events through the PlaybyPoint App. This platform makes it easy to view schedules, register for programs and reserve court time— all in just a few clicks.

Be sure to check out the Schedule of Events and Weekly Clinics sections. These highlight the key racquet sports events throughout the year—from tournaments and social mixers to clinics and exhibitions—each one a reflection of our Club’s vibrant and active spirit. We hope to see you there.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting—on the tennis court or in the growing game of pickleball—we warmly welcome you. Our team is here to support players of all levels with expert instruction, well-organized play opportunities and exceptional service to help you reach your goals and enjoy the game to the fullest.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or need assistance with anything related to the program, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to personally welcoming you and seeing you out on the courts.

Warmest regards,

GUEST PRIVILEGES

1. Registered Guests - May play tennis or pickleball no more than seven (7) days during “season,” (November 1 through April 30) and seven (7) days “off-season,” (May 1 through October 31) regardless of the host Member.

2. Extended Family Members - May play tennis or pickleball no more than fourteen (14) days during “season,” (November 1 through April 30) and fourteen (14) days “off-season,”(May 1 through October 31). Club tournaments will not count towards guests’ visits.

3. Unaccompanied Guests - Including unaccompanied extended family Members, may only play tennis or pickleball with the approval of the Racquets Professional Staff. Arrangements must be made by the Member in advance. Any “walk ups” will not be granted permission to play until the corresponding Member gives approval to the staff.

Guests are not eligible to take individual lessons. They may only participate in lessons or clinics if accompanied by the sponsoring Member.

The Member is responsible for paying any unpaid charges incurred by their guests, including any applicable daily guest fees set by the Club. Additionally, the Member is responsible for the behavior and conduct of their guests.

CHILD PRIVILEGES

1. Children under age twelve (12) may not play tennis or pickleball unless supervised by an adult.

2. Members are responsible for the conduct and safety of their children when using the Club facilities.

RESERVING COURTS

Court reservations may be made up to six (6) days in advance by calling, emailing, using our reservation platform, or visiting the Racquet Pro Shop. We require a minimum of two (2) names to hold a court reservation due to the high level of reservations. No standing reservations will be accepted.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The Club implements a 12-hour cancellation policy for private lessons, events and clinics. Please contact the Pro-Shop before the deadline if you wish to cancel your reservation to avoid a 100% charge.

DOWN NETS

When nets are down or signs are posted, the court involved shall be considered closed for play. Players are not to tighten or raise downed nets or otherwise commence play on such courts without first receiving permission from the Pro-Shop.

COMPLETION OF PLAY

Upon the completion of play, all equipment and personal belongings are to be removed from the court enclosure involved. The court enclosure is to be policed for trash and debris; the same shall be placed in appropriate receptacles located nearest the court involved.

All players must complete play five minutes before their reserved court time expires and must vacate the court when their time has expired as not to delay or encroach upon players to follow. If players desire to continue to play beyond their reserved court time, they must report to the Pro-Shop to determine if a court is available for extended play.

Tournament Rules & Court Etiquette

All tennis tournaments should be governed by the United States Tennis Association Rules. Club events, which include tournaments and inter-club matches, shall have preference over all other play.

SINGLES

A player who first wins seven points shall win the tiebreak “game” and the set, provided he or she leads by a margin of two points. If the score reaches six points all, the game shall be extended or continued until this margin has been achieved. Numerical scoring shall be used throughout the tiebreak.

WHO SERVES FIRST IN THE TIEBREAK?

The player who served first in the beginning of the set will always serve first in the tiebreak. He/she will serve first in the tiebreak from the right court and will be allowed to serve only one point, since it is considered an advantage to serve.

After the first point is over, each opponent will serve two points until one opponent wins the tiebreak “game.” To determine where to serve from, remember to add up each player’s score(s) and if the total is even, then the point will be served from the right, and if it is odd, then the serve will be delivered from the left court.

AFTER THE SET IS OVER, WHO SERVES FIRST IN THE NEXT?

The player who did not start the previous set and therefore, did not start the tiebreak.

DO WE CHANGE SIDES AFTER THE SET?

Yes. It is considered just like one game (example: 6-7, 7-6, 7-6).

DOUBLES

In doubles, the same procedure for singles shall apply. The player whose turn it is to serve shall be the server for the first point of the tiebreak. Thereafter, each player shall serve in rotation of two points each, in the same order as previously in that set, until the winners of the tiebreak “game” have been decided. However, it may mean that the doubles partners may end up serving from different sides of the net (sun and wind).

PICKLEBALL

Considered the fastest growing sport in the country, pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but it can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

COURT ETIQUETTE

Customary court etiquette shall be observed at all times. Players and spectators must conduct themselves in a courteous and considerate manner so as not to disturb players and spectators on adjoining or neighboring courts. Players and spectators should not walk across or behind a court while a point is being played. Only playing participants should be on the courts at any time.

• Do not play “first in” when starting to serve.

• Give opponent the benefit of the doubt on all calls.

• Avoid getting angry either at yourself or opponent.

• Treat your opponent with courtesy. Accept defeat graciously.

• Avoid arguments of any kind. In between points, send the server the ball directly; do not make him/ her chase it.

• When the ball lands on your court from an adjoining court, stop playing immediately and call “let.” Return the ball promptly and pleasantly. Never enter someone else’s court while play is in progress.

• Keep the set moving; do not stop at net to “chat.” Always be considerate of those waiting.

• Be certain the receiver is ready before serving.

• Do not return a serve that is out; keep the ball on your side of the court.

• Do not protest or question an opponent’s call either by speech or manner.

• When a game is completed, please leave the balls ready at the baseline for the next person.

• When entering your court and play is in progress on an adjacent court, please keep your voice to a minimum.

• Use common courtesy.

• When shopping in the Racquets Professional Shop, please do not try on clothing after play.

• Players are asked to refrain from changing their shirts on the court. Please use the locker room.
