Thank goodness it’s spring!
Those who know me know I’ve said how much this season reminds me of growing up here in Connecticut, when school was only canceled for nearly 2 feet of snow. If it was snow, not ice, we bundled up and went anyway. Times have changed, but the simple joy of spring has not.
As the birds sing, the trees and flowers bloom, and the days grow longer and brighter, it’s impossible not to feel renewed. Spring is a season of fresh beginnings, a season we welcome with open hearts.
Thanks to the dedication and care of our remarkable team, and the memories we are privileged to help create, we enjoyed a wonderful winter season. With tariffs in check and our buying team continuing to seek out the finest diamonds, jewelry, watches, and gifts, our showcases shine with beautiful new designs at exceptional values, alongside the classic styles and high quality collections we have proudly offered since 1898.
We never take for granted the honor of one family leading Lux Bond & Green for 128 years, serving generations of customers across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and beyond.
Thank you for letting us be part of your most meaningful moments. Your trust and loyalty mean everything to us. Stop by, say hello, have your jewelry and watches cleaned and checked, and let our team share their knowledge and expertise with you.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Green Family

Lux gold essentials crafted for daily wear to elevate any look for the spring
By John A. Green
Our family has long supported the theater and the arts across Connecticut and Massachusetts. Theater has shaped much of my own creative life, from early performances on college stages to community work in the region. This year marks a major anniversary for TheaterWorks in Downtown Hartford, and we are proud to support a company that has become a cultural anchor in our community.
When TheaterWorks first opened, I served on its original board, fulfilling a college-era dream of life on the stage. In the 1970s I performed as a mime in Faneuil Hall and Cambridge, and I acted and directed at Boston College. Theater taught me discipline, presence, and the value of shared experience. Those early days shaped how I see artistic work and community engagement.
In 1985 Steve Campo opened a small theater on Pearl Street with a clear purpose. Tickets were affordable. The atmosphere was relaxed. The focus stayed on the work itself. TheaterWorks embraced general admission seating, first-come access, and a repertory that pushed boundaries and invited conversation. Since then the company has produced more than 200 major plays and presents roughly two hundred performances each season, drawing audiences from across Connecticut and beyond.
Under the leadership of Rob Ruggiero for more than three decades, TheaterWorks has remained bold and thoughtful. Rob’s vision has brought contemporary work, new voices, and collaborations that challenge and reward audiences. The theater’s intimate space at 233 Pearl Street puts you close to the action, creating an experience where every performance feels immediate and alive.
The story of TheaterWorks is also the story of a building. The historic Art Deco structure anchors the company in its neighborhood and reflects a practical spirit and commitment to artistic integrity. TheaterWorks not only stages plays there but also supports multiple nonprofit arts organizations, expanding its impact on Hartford’s cultural life.

This season builds on 40 years of memorable work. It includes Circus Fire, written by local playwright Jacques Lamarre and drawing on Hartford’s history; a new chamber version of Sweeney Todd presented in partnership with Hartford Stage; and the world premiere comedy The Cannibals of McGower County by Drew Larimore. Subscriptions and individual performances offer variety and depth of storytelling.
The Living Room Concert Series returns with local and visiting artists in an intimate setting, Broadway talent appears in special performances and The Gallery continues to showcase visual art. During the holidays the 14th year of Christmas on the Rocks brings seasonal work back to the stage.
We are grateful to supporters who have sustained TheaterWorks since 1985. To mark this anniversary, Lux Bond & Green has donated a ruby and diamond bracelet valued at $7,500 for the gala celebration in May. One hundred Lux Bond & Green gold boxes will be sold for $100 each, with one lucky winner receiving this bracelet (pictured left).
Thank you for supporting TheaterWorks! The work here matters because it brings theater and art to Hartford that reflects the community’s spirit. To learn more about their mission and upcoming season, please visit twhartford.org.

Every gem and jewel tells the story of its creation—often forged over millennia beneath the earth’s surface. Pearls, however, enchant in a different way: They carry the narrative of living creatures, of salt and freshwater, each one radiant with a soft, natural glow. Few capture this story as exquisitely as Mikimoto. Since its founding in 1893 by Kokichi Mikimoto, the visionary behind the world’s first cultured pearls, the brand has continued to write new chapters in pearl artistry. From the effortlessly elegant Everyday Essentials collection to the understated brilliance of the Station collection to the shimmering diamond accents and flower motifs of the Morning Dew collection, one thing is certain: Every Mikimoto pearl’s journey culminates in a flawless piece designed to adorn you and your loved ones.

Many of the newest luxury yachts harness solar power to deliver a quieter, greener, hipper—and slower—cruising experience.
For years, yachting meant spectacle—roaring engines, towering wakes and fuel consumption that felt like part of the performance. But a shift is underway, and it’s changing the landscape of luxury on the waves. Today’s most forward-leaning yacht owners are trading diesel thunder for clean lines, quiet electric motors and sun-soaked decks wrapped in shimmering solar glass. Sustainability, in its newly polished form, has become the newest badge of sophistication.
Solar-powered yachts have matured far beyond the experimental boats of a decade ago. They’re fast becoming status vessels: whisper-quiet, tech-driven and engineered for owners who want indulgence without ecological guilt.
The appeal of solar goes far beyond the environmental story, though that’s certainly part of it. What seduces owners most is the experience. Electric propulsion eliminates the mechanical rumble and vibration that once defined long passages, replacing it with something rare in the yachting world: silence. The absence of fumes, noise and generator chatter creates a cruising atmosphere so pure that even the most seasoned sailors describe it as transformative.
Solar power also unlocks a new kind of onboard freedom. With solar glass quietly charging highcapacity batteries, owners can run air conditioning, lighting, entertainment suites, refrigeration and other amenities without constantly checking fuel reserves or firing up a generator. Days slide into nights seamlessly. Some hybrid solar yachts have been known to cruise entire seasons without consuming a drop of diesel, relying instead on smart energy management and steady sunshine.
Designers have embraced this new ethos with enthusiasm. Solar arrays are no longer afterthoughts; they’ve become architectural elements. Jet-black photovoltaic panels are integrated into flybridges and rooftops with a minimalist elegance that complements the sharp, futuristic lines of modern superyachts. The look is clean, sculptural and unmistakably forward-thinking.
Owners are drawn to solar yachting for a mix of reasons: the desire to tread more lightly on the waters they cherish, the promise of lower main-
tenance costs and the lure of energy independence especially during long trips. But they also appreciate the way solar technology elevates onboard living—the sense of autonomy, the feeling of being connected to the elements without sacrificing comfort.
The technology, of course, comes with tradeoffs. Solar output depends on weather and latitude, meaning that cruising in cloudier regions or pushing a yacht at higher speeds can challenge even the most advanced battery systems. Long, energy-intensive voyages often still require hybrid backup engines, and the initial cost of integrating solar power into a luxury yacht remains higher than conventional builds. For some owners, the slightly slower, more measured pace of solar cruising demands an adjustment. Yet isn’t that shift in tempo precisely the point—a new rhythm that trades speed for serenity?
Solar and hybrid yachts have quietly attracted a following among sustainability-minded celebrities and sports icons, including tennis pro Rafael Nadal and Formula 1 racer Fernando Alonso, who see them as a natural extension of an eco-luxe lifestyle.
While not all celebrity yachts are fully solar, many incorporate regenerative systems, solar-assist technologies or hybrid propulsion—moves that signal a broader shift toward conscientious indulgence. In a world where luxury increasingly includes responsibility, solar yachts are becoming a stylish option for thoughtful wealth.
Design houses such as Sunreef Yachts are already sketching the next evolution, incorporating such features as flexible solar skins, ultralight photovoltaic materials and battery systems that promise longer range. Some envision yachts that operate almost entirely off-grid, pairing solar power with wind turbines and hydrogeneration to create a closed-loop, lowimpact floating residence.
The future of yachting isn’t louder, faster or bigger. It’s smoother, smarter and sharper. A vessel that glides through the water with barely a whisper says more about modern prestige than a roaring engine ever could. And as more owners embrace this new, sun-powered world, the new signature of status may be as simple as this: moving across the world’s most beautiful seas while leaving almost nothing behind.

By John A. Green
Longevity has long been a defining hallmark of Lux Bond & Green, and it is something we speak about with deep pride and gratitude. We are a family business profoundly blessed by the dedication, loyalty, and professionalism of our team—many of whom have built their careers here over decades.
From Glenn, our IT manager, with an extraordinary 41 years of service, to our giftware buying team—Beth and Lindsey with more than 35 years—our story is rich with commitment. At our Glastonbury location, Sheila, Danuta, and Joanne each bring over 30 years of experience, joined by Bob with 26. In West Hartford, Laurie and Karen contribute nearly 25 years apiece. Our talented goldsmiths include Steve, approaching 33 years, and Laurie C. in Glastonbury with 19. Managers Trish in Westport and Bonnie at the Mohegan Sun each surpass 20 years of leadership, while our retiring HR director, Cathy, leaves an indelible mark after 23 years. Norma and I, together, each represent more than 46 full-time years ourselves. When you take a step back, it is truly remarkable.

People often ask why this works—or how we’ve managed to build such enduring relationships in an ever-changing retail landscape. The answer is simple, though not easy: Our family treats our staff as family. In return, our staff treats us—and our customers—the same way. While retail presents unique challenges, we are fortunate to offer thoughtful scheduling and to continually adapt our work environments to meet the needs of an evolving workforce. Change is inevitable, but our commitment to our core values remains unwavering as we evolve alongside the worlds of diamonds, jewelry, watches, gifts, and specialized services.
For years, we’ve heard that physical retail is under intense pressure—and it is. Yet by being smart, staying curious, utilizing technology, and, most importantly, listening, our family and our stores have arrived at a strong and promising place.
This journey began 128 years ago with my great-grandfather’s vision: to deliver exceptional customer service, guided by a clear

mission and a deep connection to the community. Giving back was not an afterthought—it was foundational. That philosophy of charitable involvement has endured through five generations of the Green family and remains living expression of our values today.
These values are more than words on paper; they are a lived experience shaped by decades of perseverance, growth, and resilience. The longevity of our team instills confidence in every customer interaction and allows vital knowledge to be passed seamlessly to the next generation of professionals. Today, as a company of approximately 100 dedicated individuals, we are proud that more than 30 team members have been with us for over a decade.
“Giving back was not an afterthought — it was foundational.”
We celebrate every milestone as a family—those with a few months of service, those marking their first year, and those who have devoted more than 40 years to our shared journey. To our customers, whose relationships we treasure, and to our staff, who honor our promises each and every day, we say thank you.

After 23 years of steady leadership and care, Lux Bond & Green prepares to mark the retirement of Cathy Berey, our longtime Human Resources manager. Cathy will step away in summer 2026, closing a chapter defined by dedication, trust, and a lasting impact on the community and culture within our company.
Cathy has guided Human Resources through a period of significant growth and change. In earlier years, those responsibilities were handled internally by John Green as the business and the role itself were far simpler. Today, Human Resources demands focused expertise across healthcare, hiring, benefits, payroll, compliance, and performance management. Cathy helped shape and strengthen this function, building the structure and standards that support our teams today.
Fortunately for us, the opportunity appeared unexpectedly. In 2002, Ames Department Store, with its 20,000 employees, went out of business and hosted a community job placement fair for displaced staff. Dave Bonney our CFO at the time, returned from that event energized, sharing that if we were willing to wait six months through the liquidation process, he had identified the perfect candidate to guide Lux Bond & Green through its evolving HR needs—especially important as we had just opened two new locations with a growing staff.
That candidate was Cathy Berey. With a career spanning G. Fox & Co. and Ames, Cathy was ready for a meaningful change. With 8-year-old twins and a 12-year-old at home, she hoped for better balance and offered to work four days a week. In reality, she has worked closer to seven days a week ever since—lucky us.
We have never known a harder-working or more dedicated leader, nor one who built trust as naturally and authentically as Cathy. The outpouring of comments when she announced her retirement this January was both heartwarming and emotional—there were plenty of laughs and tears—because she is truly beloved by everyone. Cathy brings an extraordinary “bedside manner” to her role: empathetic and fair, practical and deeply intelligent, and always honest, even when honesty is hard.
With three grown children and her husband Dave having retired a few years ago, Cathy is ready for her next chapter. This will not be a quiet retirement—anyone who knows Cathy understands she does not sit still. She leaves behind a strong and thoughtful foundation in what has become one of the most critical departments in any organization, and especially vital within a family business.
Perhaps the most telling reactions came immediately from our team:
“Who will negotiate our healthcare costs?”
“Who will I call with a benefits question?”
“Oh no…”
“I have tears in my eyes!”
Cheers to Cathy Berey, to everything she has built at Lux Bond & Green, and to a future filled with good health,
Celebrating an exceptional leader after 23 years at Lux Bond & Green

Throwing a party poolside can immerse your guests in a joyful mood of refreshment, elegance and ease—whether or not anyone actually gets wet.
In the annals of summertime entertaining, a gathering by the swimming pool is classic. It’s an event that conjures a feeling of bliss, and it has its own sensations: the rhythm of water catching the light, the hum of conversation drifting through warm air, the way time seems to loosen its grip as afternoon slips toward evening. The pool reflects sunlight by day, candlelight by night. It’s both inspiration and stage set for apparently effortless hospitality.
“On a hot day, just being by the pool under a tree’s shade feels cooler than other outdoor
alternatives, so it’s a lovely place to gather,” says entertaining expert Stephanie Nass. In her most recent book, Swing By! Entertaining Recipes & The New Art of Gathering, Nass showcases how to turn a pool terrace into an outdoor salon: tables topped with florals and pastels, seating that’s both abundant and cozy, an elevated menu for those who graze and want to stay cool, cocktails to please guests with impeccable tastes. Says Nass: “A pool is a venue that is conducive to many kinds of fun—from chatting to drinking frozen margaritas and swimming, if guests would like.”
When designing a thoughtful poolside table setting, consider the surroundings. Entertaining expert Stephanie Nass looks to a backyard garden for inspiration, matching a block-printed, mixed-poppy tablecloth with florals blooming on the opposite side of the pool.

“For this cocktail a good blender makes all the difference,” says Nass. “What’s key here for any pool party cocktail is using a reusable vessel that is not glass, like melamine; nothing ruins a barefoot party like broken glass. You can garnish with watermelon cubes or mint leaves, or both.” Makes 8 drinks
I N G R E D I E N T S
½ large watermelon, seeded and flesh cut into chunks
1 cup ice
2 Tbs. freshly squeezed lime juice
8 oz. tequila
4 oz. triple sec
small watermelon cubes (optional garnish) mint leaves (optional garnish)
D I R E C T I O N S
Put the watermelon chunks in a blender with the ice, lime juice, tequila and triple sec. Blend on high speed until all of the ingredients are smooth and combined.
Divide among 8 cups and serve immediately with either or both optional garnishes.

“Inspired by my favorite salad at the Palm Beach Grill, this recipe is adapted for a pool party anywhere you are,” Nass says. “The ingredient list for the dressing is a bit long, but the alchemy of all the flavors makes it totally worthwhile, plus you’ll likely have leftover dressing that can be enjoyed for several days.”
I N G R E D I E N T S
¾ cup peanut oil
¼ cup rice vinegar
2 Tbs. soy sauce
1 Tbs. lemon juice, freshly squeezed
2 tsp. honey
1½ tsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. sesame oil
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp. black pepper, freshly ground
1 garlic clove, minced Salad
2 bunches lacinato kale, stemmed and thinly sliced
¾ cup unsalted roasted peanuts, roughly chopped
5 oz. Pecorino Romano, grated (about ¼ cup)
1 rotisserie chicken, skinned and shredded
D I R E C T I O N S
Make the dressing: In a large measuring cup, combine the peanut oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, Dijon mustard, sesame oil, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and garlic and whisk to thoroughly incorporate.
Make the salad:
In a large serving bowl and with clean hands, massage the kale for about 3 minutes until the leaves soften.
Add the peanuts, Pecorino Romano and chicken and toss together. Pour ¼ cup of the dressing on the salad and toss. If the salad seems too dry, add another ¼ cup. Leftover dressing can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
Place the salad in a serving bowl, if passing at the table, or on individual salad plates. Serve immediately.

For a hot day by the pool, plan a menu with light, cool foods. Seasonal fruit skewers, easy to prepare, can be presented in creative and playful ways. Fresh fruit also can be placed in bowls for guests to serve themselves as they please, while salads should be made with hearty greens such as kale or spinach, both of which maintain their crunch longer than delicate lettuces. For drinks, Nass suggests always having plenty of water on hand as well as a frozen cocktail. “You can blend frozen fruits like mango, strawberries or watermelon with your favorite spirit,” she says.
The Anemone Vase from Simon Pearce is organic and fluid in form, exquisite from every angle. Filled with light or fresh seasonal blooms, it becomes a sculptural centerpiece that brings clarity and movement to any table.

Our selections for home, hosting, and meaningful moments this spring.
Spring turns attention to the table and the objects that define it. Hand blown vases from Simon Pearce present new proportions and fluid silhouettes, suited for a single stem or a gathered arrangement. Cut and colored crystal from William Yeoward brings structure and brilliance to barware and place settings alike. Considered glassware and tableware establish a sense of occasion with ease, encouraging you to host with confidence and set the table with purpose.
Collectors and hosts will value the artistry of Herend figurines, each hand painted with precision and character. These porcelain studies introduce color and narrative to a console, mantel, or spring table, offering both decoration and conversation. Paired with crystal and sculpted glass, they complete a setting defined by clarity and balance.
At Lux Bond & Green, these pieces are curated with the same care given to fine jewelry and timepieces. Each selection reflects a commitment to craftsmanship, heritage, and lasting design, allowing you to invest in objects that elevate daily living

The wristwatches owned by rock superstar Bruce Springsteen reveal a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, heritage—and function.
What is down-to-earth, jeans-and-T-shirt Bruce Springsteen doing with all those luxury watches? They’re the genuine article, and he can relate. The iconic singer with the blue-collar style has always favored authenticity over flash, whether on stage or off, and that philosophy extends to his wrist. Most fans know Springsteen, who turns 77 in September, for his energetic performances and storyteller songwriting. But horology aficionados have a special reason to celebrate “The Boss”: For all the informality of his usual attire, the man has an impressive, discerning collection of timepieces.
One of the most talked-about watches in Springsteen’s rotation is his vintage Heuer Autavia “Orange Boy” chronograph ref. 1163, a rare early-1970s reference prized for its bold orange accents and motorsport pedigree. Springsteen was photographed wearing the Autavia during promotional appearances and behind-the-scenes moments surrounding Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You, the 2020 Apple TV documentary that offered an intimate look at his creative process. Paired with a brown leather bund strap, the Autavia perfectly complements his worn-in denim, boots and understated rock-and-roll uniform.
Rolex also plays a role in Springsteen’s collection. He has long favored vintage models, including a Rolex Submariner ref. 1680, distinguished by its red “Submariner” text—a detail cherished by collectors. The watch has appeared on his wrist in archival photos and public outings over the years,
At left: Bruce Springsteen’s vintage Rolex Daytona ref. 6263 is a graillevel chronograph with motorsport DNA. The piece captures speed, precision and timeless cool—proof that some legends, watches or musicians, grow only more prized with age.
Center: With its distinctive red Submariner script, the 1999 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s vintage Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 is a true tool-watch icon. Much like the Boss’s music, the timepiece is rugged, honest and built to endure.
At right: The iconic red-and-blue bezel of the Rolex GMT-Master “Pepsi” ref. 16750, paired with a Jubilee bracelet, speaks to a life in motion. A watch made for crossing time zones, it feels especially fitting on the wrist of an artist who has been touring worldwide and throughout the U.S. since the early 1970s.

reinforcing its reputation as a no-nonsense tool watch suited to a life spent touring, traveling and performing.
Another standout is Springsteen’s Rolex Daytona ref. 6263, a 1970s chronograph with screw-down pushers and an undeniable motorsport heritage. He was seen wearing the Daytona during a televised appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2020. More recently, Springsteen has shown an appreciation for modern interpretations of classic designs. He’s been spotted around New Jersey wearing a Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman,” identifiable by its black-andblue ceramic bezel. The watch made an appearance during a visit connected with the 2025 Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere starring Jeremy Allen White, underscoring its utility as both a contemporary collector’s favorite and a practical companion for crossing time zones.
Beyond Heuer and Rolex, his collection includes pieces like the Tudor Submariner “Snowflake,” beloved for its angular hands and tool-watch appeal, and robust dive watches such as the Panerai Luminor Submersible, further emphasizing Springsteen’s preference for watches with purpose.
What unites Springsteen’s collection is not extravagance, but intention. These are watches meant to be worn, lived in and experienced—fitting companions for a musician whose legacy is built on honesty, endurance and timeless appeal. Like his songs, Springsteen’s watches tell stories that only get better with age.

Thoughtful treasures to welcome the season’s newest joy

Sport-driven watches and refined men’s bracelets made for the man who’s always on the move

A vibrant, herbaceous spritz that captures the essence of spring in a glass

1 oz. Italicus Bergamot Liqueur
1 oz. Ramazzotti Aperitivo Rosato
1 oz. grapefruit basil cordial
3 oz. Sparkling Rosé Prosecco
Floral notes from the bergamot liqueur blend with the fresh basil and bright grapefruit cordial, creating a layered citrus profile. A hint of bitterness from the aperitivo meets the fruitiness of the rosé and lively bubbles, finishing crisp and refreshing.
The result is a bright, sparkling cocktail suited for warmer days after a long winter. Like the Aperol Spritz, the Fresca Italiana carries lower alcohol, which suits slow, relaxed sipping. As spring arrives, it stands out as a natural choice for patio afternoons.

The Tudor Ranger is a precision the Dakar Rally in the sand— or almost adventure.
In 1977, Thierry Sabine, a young motorbike in the Abidjan-Nice Rally, got lost in the desert. His compass smashed and wearing racing gear with minimal supplies, he wandered the desert for three scorching days and two ing nights, reportedly sucking on rocks to his mouth from running dry. Finally, one rally organizers and pilots spotted his tracks the sand and the cross he’d made from those and rescued him. Though severely dehydrated, Sabine was profoundly inspired by the spectacular landscape that almost killed him and moreover determined to share its unfathomable beauty the racing world.
The following year, on December 26, 1978, Thierry Sabine’s desert racing dream became reality when more than 170 competitors embarked on the Dakar Rally, a 10,000-kilometer racing adventure from Paris to the Senegalese capital of Dakar. Since then, the Dakar Rally has grown to become the biggest annual rally raid event in the world. The location of the race routes has changed over the years: First it ran from Europe to Africa, then in South America, and finally in the Middle East.
Dakar Rally is run entirely in Saudi Arabia, ing vast deserts, rocky plateaus, coastal plains rugged mountains, living up to Thierry Sabine’s bold racing vision: “A challenge for those A dream for those that stay behind.”
Tudor is proud to be the official timekeeper Dakar Rally and has recently expanded one iconic families of expedition tool watches, the to include a new size option as well as a stunning desert-inspired dial color, “Dune White.”
The origins of the Ranger watch date back 1929, when Tudor founder Hans Wilsdorf sioned adding an adventurous aspect to certain watches and so registered the name “Ranger.”
