Like all of our London Jewelers locations, it will retain a special feeling that reflects the unique Manhasset community we have called home for decades. EXPERIENCE OUR NEW BVLGARI BOUTIQUE! We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Bvlgari partnership with the opening of a branded boutique at London Jewelers’ Americana Manhasset flagship. This new shopping experience is the first of its kind, and is the only place on Long Island where clients can access the breadth of Bvlgari’s watch and jewelry collection alongside the brand’s handbags, leather goods and accessories. “Bvlgari has had a solid, productive and close business relationship with London Jewelers and the Udell family for 23 years,” reveals Daniel Paltridge, president of Bvlgari North America. “Because of their history representing magnificent brands, they were one of our first-ever partners in the ’90s when Bvlgari began opening retail accounts.” The two companies always hoped to take the next step when the time was right, and when we decided two years ago to renovate the London Jewelers flagship jewelry salon, it created the perfect opportunity to finally add a dedicated Bvlgari shop-in-shop. “Our history with Bvlgari dates back to meeting Nicola Bvlgari in the 1980s,” adds Candy Udell, president of London Jewelers. “Since then we’ve had a close working relationship and friendships with the entire team. We’ve always loved their jewelry and have personally toured Bvlgari’s Italian factories. We are continually impressed by the quality of the craftsmanship.” The space was designed by top retail architect Peter Marino (who, coincidentally, was lead architect on the Americana Manhasset center when it was originally conceived and built), evoking Bvlgari’s Roman DNA through the use

of classic chandeliers, elegant marble and other high-end finishes. This collaboration will give our clients access to a classic Bvlgari brand experience while remaining within close proximity to the rest of London Jewelers’ world-class assortment of jewelry, watches and gifts. “We couldn’t be more excited for the opening of our first Bvlgari shop-in-shop,” says Paltridge. “Mark, Candy, Randi, Scott and Zach [Udell] have been huge supporters of the brand, and we are delighted to be doing this with them.”
AUDEMARS PIGUET: Bold Watches for Smaller Wrists
W
e are often faced with two choices: to evolve or remain. Since 1972, Audemars Piguet has proven it is possible to do both. The Royal Oak, created 48 years ago, was the world’s first luxury sports watch. Today, its decidedly different octagonal bezel shape has grown to become iconic. Remaining true to its roots almost half a century later, Audemars Piguet continues to take the distinctive design of the Royal Oak and develop it for the modern era. With numerous variations of this model already in existence, this year the Swiss haute horlogerie watchmaker introduces to the family the recognizable–yet remarkable– Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm model. Available in four references, this timepiece is the model smaller wrists have been waiting for. The distinguishing “Grande Tapisserie” pattern is utilized on all four of the new designs. One features a silver-toned dial, stainless steel case and bezel, white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating. The second steel model contains a blue-gray dial with a stainless steel case that is adorned with a diamond-set bezel and white gold hour-markers. The two-tone model combines a stainless steel case and bracelet with 18K pink gold links and bezel, and a silver-toned dial with pink gold applied hour-markers. Last but not least, Audemars Piguet presents a pink gold model with an 18K pink gold case, diamond-set bezel and a silver-toned dial, also with pink gold applied hour-markers. All four water-resistant references are powered by a new selfwinding movement, caliber 5800, endowed with a dedicated oscillating weight specifically developed for this new 34mm version. While each is reminiscent of the brand’s history, every evolution of the Royal Oak is even more admirable than the last. atek Philippe has a long history of utilizing its creative freedom to imagine and execute the finest timepieces in the world. Now, the creativity expands beyond the wrist. After the start of construction in 2015, the company has announced the completion of its new production building in Geneva. The highly modern architecture unites all of the manufacture’s Genevan ateliers under one roof, a goal of the brand since 1996. The new building reasserts Patek Philippe’s Genevan roots and its confidence in the future of watchmaking artistry that perfectly melds tradition and innovation. The building also contains a penthouse restaurant which can (eventually) be used for extraordinary events for up to 880 guests, as well as four VIP lounges with fantastic panoramic views of the landscape and nearby mountains. As expected, the construction impressively portrays the creativity of Patek Philippe as it accentuates the landscape of Plan-les-Ouates. Spanning 10 floors, its contemporary design contains large-format glazing that interacts with white concrete passageways along the entire façade. Intermittent bronzecolored fire escapes evoke a cosmopolitan New York style. As with the watches of Patek Philippe, the subtlety of the ensemble melds with exceptionally refined details. The slight horizontal curvature of the passageways is reminiscent of the gently rounded octagon of the Nautilus case, while the balustrades of the fire escapes form a silhouette that resembles the form of leaf-shaped watch hands. It is no surprise that Patek Philippe, a brand built on the concept of family, is already planning for generations to come. In addition to the 1.4-million-square-foot building, a generous amount of space is available to accommodate the brand’s growth over the next 20 to 30 years. These are ideal prerequisites for securing the success of the family-owned manufacture and preserving its independence for the coming generations.

Born from the marriage of Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef, the maison has always celebrated the tender feelings that bring two hearts together. As expected, the love language of this storied brand is expressed through gems. Highlighting Our Heroes As New York battled the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the brave men and women in our hospitals led the charge. The London Jewelers family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at North Shore University Hospital, Glen Cove Hospital, LIJ Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital and NYU Langone Health for all they have done. “We want our healthcare workers to know they’re in our thoughts and hearts at this difficult time,” says Randi Udell Alper, London Jewelers’ vice president. CARTIER: THE EXTROVERT’S TIMEPIECE
With its distinctive design, a Cartier Pasha watch is for those who think big. A cult favorite released in 1985, its power initially caught the eye of that generation’s opinion leaders. Both men and women have always been drawn to its power, its design and its extroverted attitude. The Pasha was and still is an iconic watch that embraces the light, stands firmly in boldness and asserts a unique character like no other. The newest collection includes versions in steel, yellow gold, pink gold and set with diamonds. Each iteration embraces an assertive graphic signature: an extraordinary square-inside-a-circle design. A square filigree rail-track is found within the circle of its dial, immediately introducing a nonconformist identity that harmoniously brings opposites together. Four bold Arabic numerals ensure an ultra-contemporary, oversized appearance. Its striking design challenges the predominance of round shapes in watchmaking and amplifies its originality. The bracelet is accentuated by the Clous de Paris, while its chained crown ensures maximum visibility. In this new iteration, Cartier has added increased refinement, equipping the winding crown, hidden under the fluted crown cover, with a blue spinel or sapphire. This division and duplication of blues enhances the ergonomics of the winding crown and the preciousness of the watch. Faithful to the original model but with even more sophistication, the Pasha de Cartier watch for the 2020s is classic yet contemporary, and remains as edgy as ever. Attending a museum these days is a different, almost reborn, experience. The status of your favorite museum may change from week to week, so be sure to call ahead. New York City museums, which began reopening in September, welcomed back guests at 25% capacity, creating an intimate opportunity. If you haven’t visited your favorite museum in a while, expect that touch screens, coat checks and happy hour events may be off limits and advance reservations are almost certainly required. Still, it’s never been a better time to walk right up to your favorite painting, sculpture or installment. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for example, people have used the new reality as an excuse to dress up, celebrate birthdays or revisit a comforting, old (art) friend. “Visitors have more private experiences in some areas of our museum, such as the well-loved and heavily visited Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room,” says Jamie Lawyer, the chief experience officer at

Manhattan’s Rubin Museum of Art, which highlights collections from India and the Himalayas. “I’m happy to say so far, our visitor experiences have mostly been pros,” says Christopher Gorman, the deputy director at the American Folk Art Museum in Manhattan. “People were excited to come back, and they felt safe visiting. I can say a lot of people just miss culture.” Of course, one of the best things to come out of
the global lockdown was a massive increase in online exhibits, lectures and virtual tours. Many museums are offering interactive Zoom Q&As with artists, or expanded content that is as close as your smartphone. “As a smaller museum, we never have been able to pack hundreds of people into our events,” shares Gorman, “but online, we can reach much larger numbers, even internationally.”

ophisticated in their simplicity, the designs of Vhernier are truly contemporary works of art. Vhernier’s roots trace back to 1984, when a sculptor and a young woman with an extensive knowledge of jewelry-making technique had a desire to create modern pieces unlike any other, filling an empty niche in the industry. They created a fresh way to approach jewelry, one which would combine the goldsmith’s trade with the shapes and colors of modern art. The brand was ahead of its time, and so remained a niche favorite among refined connoisseurs. One was Carlo Traglio, a visionary Italian entrepreneur and art collector. When the opportunity to acquire Vhernier arose in 2001, the Traglio family did not hesitate. Their dream was to introduce the charms of this utterly unique brand to as many women as possible, while preserving its one-of-a-kind identity. Today, Vhernier is known around the world for its uniqueness, modernity and impeccable quality. Each piece is handcrafted in Italy by only the most highly skilled master goldsmiths. tudor: Diving Deep
At the start of your journey, you begin to lay cement for the path you will take. No matter where you walk, your foundation never changes. Likewise, Tudor’s early life established the bedrock on which it still stands. For over half a century, the brand has undoubtedly alluded to its history in the aesthetic of each watch it produces. Tudor’s present-day collection comprises a number of models that celebrate its memorable heritage, with references either directly inspired by military dive watches or which present an allegory of life at sea. The Naval Heritage, for example, dates back to 1954, when Tudor’s first divers’ watch, reference 7922, was introduced. The award-winning Swiss brand is known for robust, technical products positioned at an accessible price, making Tudor the ideal option for any organization carrying out large-scale underwater
In the early 1940s, the advent of scuba diving marked a significant turning point in the exploration of the deep. Rolex played an important role in the development of the waterproof chronometer wristwatch, thanks in particular to the Oyster case, patented in 1926—a paragon of robustness providing optimum protection for the watch’s movement. The brand began experimenting with diving pioneers in the ’50s, which led to the introduction in 1953 of the Submariner, the first divers’ wristwatch waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). Just a year after its launch, the waterproofness of the Submariner was increased to a depth of 200 meters (660 feet). The watch was soon fitted with other technical innovations, such as a luminescent disc on the hour hand, a crown guard and a date function on the Submariner Date, unveiled in 1969. Its waterproofness was extended in 1979 to a depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet), and the waterproofness of the Submariner achieved the same depth in 1989. The new-generation Submariner and Submariner Date are equipped respectively with calibre 3230 (launched this year) and calibre 3235, movements entirely developed
and manufactured by Rolex. These selfwinding mechanical movements led to the filing of several patents and offer fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve (to approximately 70 hours), resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability. When diving, reading the time with certainty is a matter of survival, so the Submariner’s dial is designed to be clean and unambiguous. The hour and minute hands, clearly differentiated in size and shape, and the hour markers in simple geometric forms, ensure reliable reading. These models also feature a Chromalight display: a luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow in dark conditions. The unidirectional rotatable bezels are fitted with a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in black, green or blue ceramic that allows divers to confidently monitor their dive times. The bezel’s knurled edge offers

activities. It supplied watches to the French Navy for many years, which led to its watches landing on the wrists of the best divers in the world. The seven decades following the introduction of reference 7922 involved constant improvement of the divers’ watch. Tudor’s Black Bay line manages to bring together close to 70 years of divers’ watch history, yet is far from being simply a re-release of classic models. Introduced in 1958, with its proportions, overall shape, gold accents on the dial and red triangle on the rotating bezel, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is most aesthetically similar to the brand’s first divers’ watches and the first models adopted by world navies. The emblematic Black Bay Fifty-Eight “Navy Blue” is inspired by the blue divers’ watches that are inextricably linked to the French Navy. 2020 has undoubtedly been an eye-opening year, giving us 20/20 vision in many respects. With a worldwide pandemic taking place, feelings of isolation and loneliness were understandably at an all-time high. The cure to these emotional side effects? Finding the perfect companion. With more free time and a concern that adoption operations would be suspended, people all across the country stepped up to foster homeless dogs and cats. Rescue Paw Foundation has continued its support of nokill shelters in underprivileged areas and humane education programs that help prevent dogs and cats from having to enter the shelter system in the first place. Internationally, RPF is proud to partner with No Dogs Left Behind, a nonprofit which aims to end China’s heinous dog-meat market. Despite the difficult state of the world today, we must always find a way to better the lives of the animals that bring so much joy and comfort to ours. All companion animals deserve a loving home, and now more than ever, we need them just as much as they need us.

2 oz. vodka, gin, tequila, rum or whiskey 4-5 sprigs of any herb 2 oz. fresh grapefruit juice ½ oz. fresh lime juice and lime wheel 1 tsp. honey club soda In a highball or wine glass, add the herb of your choice. Tap (lightly muddle) with the back of a spoon until you smell the aroma. Add grapefruit juice, honey and lime juice, and stir well until the honey dissolves. Add the liquor and fill with ice. Stir lightly, top with club soda and garnish with lime wheel.

If you want something easy but more unexpected to impress dinner guests, try the Martinique-Hattan. Though rum is often known as summertime party fuel, there are also incredibly complex aged expressions that are perfect when the weather turns chilly. Rhum Agricole is a specific style of cane spirit associated with the island of Martinique. It employs distilled fresh sugarcane instead of molasses, giving it added grass and citrus notes. The aged stuff is great as a sipper, or in place of whiskey in a cocktail.
Martinique-Hattan
1½ oz. Rhum Clément V.S.O.P. ½ oz. dry vermouth ½ oz. sweet vermouth ½ oz. Fino sherry small pinch salt bar spoonful of Suze Liqueur or Cocchi Americano Luxardo maraschino cherries In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients over ice. Mix well until chilled and strain into a coupe or martini glass. Garnish with Luxardo maraschino cherries.
If you’re entertaining in small groups or just want to make a special party for your family, look for simple ways to translate classic appetizers into safe, beautifully packaged portions for one. Consider crudités, which can be dressed up or down for any occasion depending on the vessel you serve them in. This version gets a luxe upgrade with homemade roasted beet hummus.
Crudité Cups with Beet Hummus
2 medium beets, roasted 1½ tsp. extra-virgin olive oil, plus 2 Tbsp. reserved 1 15-oz. can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 Tbsp. tahini 2 cloves garlic ¾ tsp. sea salt assorted crudités, such as carrots, Persian cucumbers, fennel and bell peppers, cut into spears fresh dill sprigs Preheat oven to 400°F. Place beets in a small baking dish and drizzle with 1½ tsp. of oil. Cover with foil and bake until beets are tender when pierced with a paring knife. Cool completely. Trim, peel and quarter beets. Combine beets, garbanzo beans, lemon juice, tahini, the remaining 2 Tbsp. olive oil, garlic and salt in a food processor and process into a smooth purée. Place 2 Tbsp. of hummus in individual cups. Layer crudités and dill sprigs on top of hummus in cups and serve.

Beyond gyms and roof decks, some of New York City’s most desirable luxury buildings are offering next-level amenities to make staying in feel more like the getaway we’re all craving right now. At TriBeCa’s 111 Murray Street, for example, the residents-only hammam is designed to exacting specifications with heated, sculpted marble beds and carved sinks that give the traditional Turkish bath a modern flair. (It’s all part of a greater “wellness suite” with a steam room, sauna, treatment rooms and even a private Drybar outpost.) But that’s not all! These lucky urbanites also have access to their own pâtisserie, a teen rec room with an in-house arcade and air hockey tables, a “movement studio” and—when they’re ready for a true exotic escape—concierge jet service.
Specialty salts—for both cooking and finishing dishes—are an easy way to elevate your meals to new heights. “I only cook with coarse Diamond Kosher salt,” shares Chef Matthew Hyland, founder of the Pizza Loves Emily Food Group. “Pasta water should be just as salty as the ocean; add a generous amount when it starts to boil.” With its large, grainy flakes, Maldon sea salt is ideal for finishing salads and steak, Hyland says. “Once it’s been cooked, slice your steak and season with Maldon on the exposed medium-rare parts. The salty crunch enhances the texture of the soft meat.” The next time you cook fish, try finishing with a sprinkle of sel gris (sea gray) French salt, imported from Normandy. “It has the texture of damp sand and a mineraly ocean flavor that complements seafood perfectly,” he explains. If you’re feeling adventurous, add truffle salt to your next batch of roasted potatoes or rosemaryinfused salt to your roast chicken. Our mouths are watering already!

As we enter a new year and begin a new chapter, it’s time to reset and rejuvenate our bodies. Here are two of the hottest options for your next self-care splurge.
Apitherapy is an ancient alternative treatment in which a substance from honeybees is injected into humans. The most common type of apitherapy these days is bee acupuncture, which has been touted by Gwyneth Paltrow as a way to reduce scarring. Venom from live bees is strategically injected directly into the skin, then the melittin in the venom (that’s the main component, the one that triggers pain when you’re stung) causes the immune system to have an antiinflammatory response. Apitherapy is still considered an experimental treatment in the U.S. and is also used to treat conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis and skin lesions. (Adverse allergic reactions can occur, so check with your doctor before undertaking apitherapy.) In our area, holistic acupuncturists Frederique Keller of BeePharm in Northport and the Chung Institute of Integrative Medicine in Moorestown, New Jersey, perform bee venom therapy to improve several specific conditions.
Lymphatic drainage massage, despite its not-so-sexy name, is a wellness practice some swear by. It’s said to rid the body of waste by working trapped toxins and fluid out of the tissues and into the lymph nodes. There, harmful bacteria and viruses are destroyed. During the treatment, a specially trained masseuse uses light, long strokes on problem areas such as the back, shoulders, legs and arms to move fluids back through the natural lymph flow of the body. Proponents say this massage minimizes swelling, pain, bloating and stress, and boosts the immune system (and the lymphatic system) overall. They suggest booking after recovering from a cold to give your immune system a boost, before a big event to help reduce water retention or simply when your sore muscles can use a little R&R.

ORIS
Founded in Hölstein, Switzerland in 1904, Oris has long been an innovator (even locking horns with the Swiss government in the 1930s over new technologies). They’re particularly well known for their sport and diving watches. “In recent years, the brand has really been speaking to the collecting community,” says Kozlowsky. “Their vintage-inspired styles are very ontrend right now.” The Pro Pilot X is a particular standout because of its in-house designed and constructed movement, an expensive proposition for a smaller, independent company. “The fact that they were able to do it at this price Oris Big point ($7,600 with titanium bracelet Crown or $7,200 with leather strap) is pretty Pro Pilot X 115 impressive,” he explains. Introduced last year, the Big Crown ProPilot X 115 features a skeletonized dial, barrel and movement, titanium case, a 10-day power reserve and the brand’s first dial without numerals. In September 2020, the brand also introduced a limited-edition watch honoring baseball player Roberto Clemente, the first Latino to reach 3,000 hits and enter the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Released in partnership with the Roberto Clemente Foundation, the watch is limited to 3,000 pieces and sells for $1,950. It features a stainless steel case, 38-hour power reserve and baseball gloveinspired leather strap.

“The whole watch industry and collecting community is really behind Grand Seiko,” says Kozlowsky. “There’s almost a cult following for this brand.” Launched in 1960 by the Seiko Group to demonstrate that Japan could compete against Switzerland in the luxury sphere, the brand places an emphasis on combining old and new technologies and stylings with extreme elegance. “It’s an automatic watch regulated by a quartz crystal, allowing the seconds hand to move so smoothly,” notes Kozlowsky. “It’s got one of the smoothest movements in the industry, and their signature Zaratsu mirror polishing method is reminiscent of how a samurai sword is polished.”

Japan Seasons Special Edition is a new collection of four watches exclusive to the U.S. celebrating the Nature of Time. “Spring” and “Winter” (in titanium) are assembled at the Shinshu Watch Studio and feature a Spring Drive movement. “Summer” and “Autumn” (in steel) come together at Shizukuishi Studio and feature the brand’s mechanical HiBeat 36,000 movement. Shunbun’s (Spring) rippling pink dial evokes Japan’s cherry blossoms. The rich, dark green dial on Rikka (Summer) evokes a summer wind over the fields. The deep blue of Shubun’s (Autumn) dial represents the autumnal equinox, while Taisetsu’s (Winter) textured bone-white dial recalls sunlight on crusted snow. Each watch retails at $6,300.
Hailing from Germany, Nomos may be something of an under-theradar brand for new collectors. “The nice thing about Nomos is that it’s a great entry point for collectors, and it’s from Germany, where a lot of unique luxury brands are popping up,” says Kozlowsky. Though the tiny berg of Glashütte has been home to German watchmaking for 175 years, Nomos dates back to 1990. “People are drawn to its extreme minimalist styling, the elegant heat-treated dark blue ‘leaf’ hands and the proprietary, house-made Nomos Swing System escapement.” This past summer, Nomos released three new versions of its classic Ludwig model. Each features polished white enamel dials and Roman numerals evoking classic pocket watches, but in a highly modern body. Ludwig - 175 Years of Watchmaking ($2,260) features an in-house-built Nomos caliber with manual wind and 17 jewels. Ludwig Neomatik 39 ($3,800) has a self-winding caliber and elegant rounded and tapered stainless steel case. The larger Ludwig Neomatik 41 ($4,200) is also self-winding with a steel case, and features a date window at 3 o’clock. Each special variation is limited to 175 pieces worldwide (with an engraving on the back commemorating the release).
