However, South Burlington recently updated a series of city ordinances laying the groundwork for police officers to continue offering it. Lissa McDonald is the new principal at South Burlington High School, ringing in her 40th year of being an educator. McDonald had been the principal at Rick Marcotte Central School for the past four years and previously served as the assistant principal for 17 years at the high school. She is replacing Patrick Burke, who was principal for 27 years. Initially, McDonald had planned to retire at the end of this year follow-
ing her other colleagues who participated in a retirement buyout. She will be paid a $180,000 salary. “I was really planning to retire, and when I got the opportunity, I realized it is something that I can do, and I’m happy to do it for the community,” McDonald said in an interview this week.
