Charlotte assesses storm damage, works to secure funding

Three weeks after another historic flood ravaged much of the state, Charlotte is assessing the roughly $2 million in damages and is now hoping to access federal and state funding to offset those escalating expenses. “This has been kind of a 24/7 event for us to manage,” select-

The Hinesburg Planning Commission has adopted a set of zoning changes meant to align with new state laws aimed at spurring more housing, specifically affordable housing. In 2023, the town was awarded an $18,000 grant from the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development to update its bylaws to reflect changes in state law concerning zoning. The commission engaged planning consultant, PlaceSense, to take a deep dive into its regula-

tions to see where changes could be made, which laid the groundwork for this group of zoning changes. “The state was recognizing that the housing crisis was getting worse, so they worked with an outside group to come up with a new guide for municipalities called ‘Zoning for Great Neighborhoods,’” Hinesburg director of planning and zoning Alex Weinhagen said.
