Vogue Fabrics Catalog - Early Spring 2026 - Fashion Fabrics Folio for Sewing and Tailoring
Early Spring 2026
To Your Health
Explore the Japanese keys to living a longer, healthier life. If sewing is your ikigai, you will love what we have curated for you in this issue. Make a weekly date with your sewing machine and get busy.
Feast your eyes on our Ikigai Collection. This earthy, rouge color looks beautiful on so many skin tones. Ikigai Weave can be worn all year as a classic Chanel-inspired ensemble. The linen-weave will look elegant lined with our burgundy rayon bemberg lining, or you can jazz things up by using the stretch charmeuse print (VF261-04). We found the perfect bottom-weight for your skirts, dresses, and pants with Ikigai Rouge cotton sateen. Use your scraps to create welt pockets, or order extra to make decorative trim topped with black guimp. For a blouse, choose Ikigai Merlot for its color and texture. The slight crepe gives this the look of a gauze without being sheer. It’s perfect for a boatneck top with cut-on sleeves.

Much has been studied, written, and filmed regarding living longer, stronger, more impactful lives. There are clusters around the world where a higher percentage of people are living into their 90s and 100s, remaining active and engaged. These clusters are called Blue Zones. In this issue, we will share some key traits of how the Japanese, especially the Okinawans, achieve long, happy lives. Ikigai (pronounced ee-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that roughly translates to “the reason you get out of bed in the morning,” which already makes it sound like coffee’s philosophical cousin. It sits at the joyful Venn diagram intersection of what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what gives your life meaning, without requiring a dramatic career change or a mountain retreat. In Japan—especially in Okinawa, one of the world’s most famous longevity hotspots—ikigai is considered a quiet but powerful contributor to long, healthy lives. Rather than focusing on grand achievements, ikigai celebrates small, daily pleasures like tending a garden, perfecting a recipe, sewing new clothes, or showing up for your community. This sense of purpose has been linked to lower stress, stronger social ties, and better overall well-being, all of which help explain Japan’s remarkable life expectancy. Researchers and longevity experts note that people who feel useful and engaged tend to age more slowly, both physically and mentally (for more info, check out “The Blue Zones” by Dan Buettner). Ikigai isn’t about constant happiness; it’s about feeling anchored, even on messy, imperfect days. It encourages lifelong curiosity, gentle routines, and the radical idea that your existence already has value. There’s also no expiration date— your ikigai can evolve as you do, which is great news for people who like reinvention. In the end, ikigai suggests that longevity isn’t just about adding years to life, but adding meaning to your days, preferably with a smile and maybe a good cup of chai tea.

VF261-05 Ikigai Kuro
Black Millennium Stretch Suiting 77%Rayon, 20%Nylon, 3%Spandex. 60” wide. Cold wash, dry low. 25% lengthwise stretch - lay pattern pieces across the grain.
Millennium is a newer stretch-woven bottomweight fabric on the market, and our retail store carries many colors. The stretch on Ikigai Kuro runs lengthwise, so cut your sewing pattern out across the grain instead of along the grain, allowing the stretch to wrap around your body. This also means you can order less yardage. Craft some black stretch pants to wear with a wrap top sewn from Ikigai Retro. This brushed ITY knit feels delicious against the skin and is a dream for your wash-and-wear easy-care wardrobe. Make yourself a long knit tunic with side slits, a short sleeve top to wear with a jacket, or a vintage-vibe wrap dress.
For much of the country, we still expect deep freezes and blustery winds for a couple more months. Let’s warm ourselves with a sweater, knit top, or wrap made from Dine Glisten. This shimmering hatchi sweater knit mingles shades of burgundy, gray, black, and cocoa in swishes that reminds us of muted fireworks.
Did your social media feeds blast you with ads for top quality, military-grade hoodies? You can recreate these $100-$150 garments with 11/2 yards of Dine Cozy and a heap of zippers for all the hidden pockets. Choose this extra-wide Polartec sweatshirt fleece for loungers, hoodies, and vests.
Are you one of the many people who have contacted us for the Premier ITY knits from Korea? We sprinkled a couple into this catalog, and we have wonderfully bright colors ready for our upcoming issues. Check out Dine Ripples, a print that was inspired by natural agates. As a blending companion, Dine Heather fits the bill. It has a similar weight and feel to the Premier ITY, but it is a rayon-Lycra® blend. Choose both of these all-way stretch knit fabrics for crafting tops and pull-on pants that have wonderful drape and movement.

Dine Collection
Japanese dining habits are a blend of mindfulness, tradition, and longevity-friendly choices. At the heart of many meals is washoku, Japan’s traditional cuisine built around seasonal ingredients, a harmony of flavors, and the idea of a balanced plate that UNESCO has celebrated as an intangible cultural treasure. This balance supports overall health and may help reduce risks, like cognitive decline, when compared with more Western eating patterns. Before meals, many Japanese (especially in Okinawa) quietly say “Hara Hachi Bu,” an upbeat mantra meaning “eat until you’re about 80% full.” This mindfulness strategy keeps portions sensible and is linked with lower chronic disease risk and longer lives because it helps to keep one’s weight at a manageable level. Dinners often feel like a cheerful choreography of many little dishes rather than one giant plate, which naturally slows eating and boosts satisfaction. A typical table often features comforting bowls of miso soup, rich in fermented goodness that’s tasty and gut-friendly with probiotics, plus plenty of vegetables, fish, and soy. Rice-centered meals tend to promote better energy balance and even show associations with improved quality of life versus diets heavier in bread or other processed grains. Chado, the Japanese tea ceremony, adds a splash of zen to dining culture too—inviting folks to savor matcha with full awareness, a practice some say extends beyond the cup into a mindful approach to overall living. The result? An effective constellation of habits that helps contribute to Japan’s enviable longevity statistics, leaving locals and curious travelers alike with full hearts (and healthier bodies).

Brightening things up a little is Dine Plush, a plum stretch panne velvet. Make some comfy pants, a flirty skirt, or a simple top that will bring a smile to your face when you wear it. The color looks great paired with Dine Artsy, an exceptional georgette. Look at how the dye is just as rich on the reverse as it is on the face. Won’t this be exquisite as a kimono-style top?
Keep any chill at bay with a cardigan, hoodie, or zip-front jacket made from Dine Onyx, a rich, black, sweatshirtweight French terry knit. This cotton-rich fabric has all-way stretch for added comfort.

Dine Plum
Mid-weight Stretch Cotton Sateen
97% Cotton, 3% Spandex. 44” wide. Cold wash, dry low. 30% cross-grain stretch. Swatch available upon request.
We received this fabric after we cut the swatches for this collection, but the color was too good to pass up. Choose Dine Plum stretch-woven cotton sateen for staple garments, like slacks, a straight skirt, a Princess-seamed dress, and a spring jacket. Feel free to embellish it with beads or embroidery. We think some pants (or Capris for spring/summer) will look fantastic paired with a tunic or peasant-style blouse crafted from Dine Boho. This lightweight rayon challis has such a lovely hand and fluidity, you will want to get extra to make a flowing skirt.

Whether you choose a raglan or set-in sleeve for your new sweatshirt, Active Cozy will whip up in no time and keep the frosty chill at bay. At nearly 2 yards wide, you won’t need more than one yard for most sewing patterns. It looks fantastic with Active Auburn, a beautiful cotton batiste with more body than we normally see in this weave. It’s an ideal choice for sewing any number of shirts and blouses.
Reddish-Brown Cotton Batiste
KnowMe #2136 “Unisex Contrast Jackets”
We love how the deep tone pulls out the darker flecks of Active Ikebana, another beautiful crepe georgette. Create an auburn batiste shell to wear under a simple and roomy georgette top, or wear an auburn blouse with a printed scarf to lift the spirits. Either way, you will need something to wear on your legs, and we recommend tailoring trousers from Active Belle stretch-woven suiting. Its color is a cross between light taupe and dark sand, making it an indispensable neutral option in any wardrobe.
Japanese people weave movement into everyday life with a kind of cheerful practicality, turning ordinary routines into sneaky workouts in the best possible way. Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, invites people to stroll among trees, inhale woodsy air, and let blood pressure drift down like a lazy leaf in a stream, with studies linking it to lower cortisol and improved immune markers. Misogi, the invigorating purification ritual that traditionally involves cool water and mindful breathing, doubles as a bracing reset button for both body and spirit. In Okinawa, elders tend to their bustling gardens, which engages the entire body in purposeful movements, such as squatting, bending, pulling, and carrying. They incorporate their seasonal vegetables and herbs into healthy meals. Getting outside into sunlight and fresh air helps clear the cobwebs from the mind, and studies show that fresh air promotes better sleep. A newer trend—interval walking—mixes brisk bursts with relaxed recovery, and research shows it can boost aerobic fitness and leg strength while feeling more like play than punishment. Interval walking is nothing more than switching back and forth from walking at a regular pace for three minutes to walking briskly for three minutes. Studies show that doing this for half an hour is better for our bodies and metabolism than a longer walk or a jog - it’s easier on the bones and joints, and the bursts of higher heart rate help lower blood glucose levels when done after a meal. Many Japanese start the day with Rajio taisō, a five-minute exercise routine reminiscent of gym class warm-ups. Alternatively, they might opt for tai chi or yoga, both involving slow, purposeful, low-impact movements that help get the blood flowing and warm up the muscles and joints. Often, Rajio taiso and tai chi are done in parks by groups, giving people a social gathering in the fresh air, building community.

Check out Active Motif, a stretch charmeuse that perfectly incorporates the two suitings that flank it in the swatch pack. Create a classic blouse with a neck bow for work, or a kimono-style wrap blouse for an evening out. Then wear your new top with pants or a skirt tailored from Active Felix, our most popular stretch suiting in antique gold.
The gold suiting looks great paired with Active Venom, a double-brushed snakeskin ITY. Feel the softness of this brushed knit - it’ll feel delicious against your skin. We love this all-way stretch knit for tops and wrap dresses that have a flirty fluidity.
Choose Active Stone when you want to sew some basic bottom-weight garments for your wardrobe. We mean your slacks, shorts, Capris, skirts, jackets, and dresses. The cross-grain stretch provides built-in ease, and the worsted threads keep it wrinkle resistant - perfect for travel and for an active social life.
Active Tartan will speak to the hearts of so many of you. This smart yarn-woven wool and cotton blend is perfect for long coats, capes, and dramatic wraps. Order a little extra and make some fringed scarves to give as gifts.
Add a touch of dramatic flare to your life with Active Baroque, an all-way stretch ITY knit that makes a statement with large scrolled leaves and chains. If your swatch is just black, you may request a new swatch, or take our word that the colors are a perfect match to the tartan.

How to Care For Your Fabrics
The care instructions in this catalog are a conservative path, but not an absolute. There is no one size fits all for fabric care because of all the variables, such as hard versus soft water, well and septic versus municipal water, washers with and without a center aggitator, dryers that have a no-heat option, etc.
One supplier would have everyone dry clean every fabric, but for many of you this is not feasable.
Here are some general guides. You can always use your swatch to test how a fabric will react to washing and drying. Test wash the way you plan to wash your finished garments - this will remove any sizing and shrinkage prior to cutting/sewing.
Pro-Tip: Set your washer for an extra long spin cycle to remove excess water, then toss in the dryer on low heat for 5 minutes before hanging or laying flat. This minimizes wrinkles, and helps fibers last longer.

Japan is famous for everyday rituals that turn self-care into an art form. Daily nyuyoku, the warm evening bath, is less a chore than a gentle reset button for the nervous system. People soak unhurriedly, letting worries float away like rubber ducks escaping the edge of the tub. Onsen, the hot mineral springs that dot the islands, add naturally occurring minerals to ease muscles, support circulation, and invite deep sleep. Whole towns build their social life around these steaming pools, where conversation mingles with mountain mist. Kōyoku, or scent bathing, brings the forest indoors as people enjoy the calming aromas of hinoki cypress and yuzu peels, engaging the senses in tiny, joyful ways. These practices encourage slowing down, warming up, and tuning in, which reduces stress and supports heart health. Combined with active walking cultures, shared meals, and strong community ties, they form a wellbeing toolkit that people actually look forward to using. It’s no surprise that Japan regularly ranks among the world leaders in life expectancy, a point noted by the World Health Organization. The Japanese are always striving to improve themselves, an act embedded in the philosophy of kaizen - continuous improvement through small changes. Rather than trying to make radical changes that might not last due to burnout, find small things to improve. Once mastered, find the next thing to improve. In the West, we make grandiose New Year’s resolutions, and by February, most of us have failed and fallen back on our old ways. Not the Japanese. They strategically pick attainable goals and aim for 1% improvement each day. This micro-dosing of selfhelp is far less stressful than a complete overhaul, contributing to the peaceful nature of the Japanese.

If you have been following Judy Kessinger from FitNice, you know she loves this medium-weight, exquisite ITY knit from Korea. Peace Sands was made using variegated twist yarns, producing an optical illusion of visual texture. The twist helps reduce wrinkles, making these fabrics perfect for travel. We chose this color to bring out the undertones of the following florals.
Whether you combine these two digital prints into one garment, or make coordinating separates, definitely order them both for a wardrobe winner! We show Peace Smooth chiffon as the sleeves and flounce on a knit top, as well as a fluttering jacket, while Peace Opaque makes up the knit bodice for both. The all-way stretch and 215 GSM weight make this an outstanding choice for wrap dresses, knit skirts and leggings as well.
Who doesn’t love fresh berries? We have two ripe for the picking! Harvest Peace Raspberry for your spring and summer wardrobe to wear as a bottom-weight - pants, skirt, jacket, and dress. This medium-weight woven cotton has a dull satin face and good body, ideal for those of you who love to embroider. Now for some strawberries and cream....Peace Strawberry hatchi ribbed knit features a playful print, visual texture, and a soft hand, ideal for whipping up tops and sweater sets.
The Japanese culture incorporates many tiny habits of mindfulness, and when strung together throughout the day/week/ month lead to a more peaceful lifestyle and an impressive lifespan. A core concept is ma, the idea of creating space—pauses between activities, thoughts, or even musical notes—which trains the mind to appreciate the present and reduce mental clutter. In Japan, mindful cleaning rituals like osoji turn ordinary household chores into intentional, grounding experiences that calm the nervous system and sharpen focus through small, repetitive movements like wiping a counter, sweeping, and vacuuming. The practice of harada ho, a dry-towel rubbing technique traditionally used to stimulate circulation and boost immunity, encourages fully engaging with simple, physical sensations as a kind of mindful moment. Research on traditional Japanese mind-body practices shows a strong association between mindfulness and psychological well-being, including reduced depression and greater subjective health, which can indirectly support longevity. Together, practices like harada ho, the deliberate use of ma, and mindful habits such as osoji transform routine moments into opportunities for intentional awareness, stress reduction, and emotional balance. When practiced regularly, these habits contribute not just to mental clarity but also to physical health, social harmony, and resilience—key factors in the longevity Japan is known for. Through a cultural framework that values presence and purpose, individuals build sustainable habits that support healthy aging and joyful living.

In Okinawan culture, moai (MO-eye) refers to a lifelong social support group that meets regularly to share conversation, food, and mutual aid. These circles often begin in childhood and continue into old age, creating stable networks of belonging. Yuimaru is a related concept meaning cooperative reciprocity, where neighbors help one another with everyday tasks without strict accounting or expectation of repayment. Together, moai and yuimaru foster dense social connections that reduce isolation and strengthen trust. Strong social ties are associated with lower stress levels, healthier habits, and better resilience during illness or hardship. In Okinawa, these community practices are frequently cited as part of the reason many people live into their nineties and beyond. Members of a moai know they can rely on one another for emotional, practical, and sometimes financial support. This sense of security encourages active participation in community life throughout later adulthood. Regular social interaction also reinforces shared meals, light physical activity, and cultural rituals linked to well-being. In the Netflix docuseries “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones”, we see moai gatherings involving music, meals, and games. Moai and yuimaru illustrate how community cohesion and mutual help can be as important to long life as diet and exercise. We have now given you several key points to lifestyle habits which contribute to living a healthier, happier, longer life. Which aspects do you already incorporate into your life, and which would you like to add? Between starting the day with gentle movements, finding time for your ikigai, breathing in the fresh air on a walk with your squad of friends, eating light meals, relaxing through meditative movements of cleaning, and soaking in an aromatheripy bath with mineral salts while planning which part of your life you want to improve by 1%, we have certainly given you enough strategies to create your theoretical lifestyle bento box.
